Stiff stems, 3-4 ft high, easy to establish. Wildlife variety(s) needs to thwart snow drifts, not so tall that I can't see my dog working birds, and yes, fewer tillers might aid in bird movement underneath? Stand-ability is important, it'll attract early nests, which are usually more successful. A strong wildlife variety would be nice to have.
What if you did strips of a shorter statured variety with a taller one and had staggered row widths with wider rows every 10' or so to ease walking through it. You cant really get it 3-4' and have it have a thick enough stem to resist the fierce winds with wet snow. This way you could still see your dogs much of the time while they were working.
Looks like a major improvement to switch grass. I planted some Chippewa for habitat in Wisconsin this year and so far so good.
Great to hear! You should join our facebook group and you can follow all our new variety developments. facebook.com/groups/117554547355

That’s better, leeward of prevailing winds helps. I’ve been using Neb 28 variety.
Hi Roger
I live north of Belleville Ontario and I’m looking for switchgrass for cover crops.
Thank you
