      Oh wait, thank you so much for this! I feel like I maybe bought it because I heard it was a good intro spot to start, but then got re-intimidated because anything plato feels intimidating haha. Ill dig that out of the piles and move it to the top of the list!

    I’ve been in a reading slump since November. it’s not that I don’t /want/ to read, but the thought of reading a book is exhausting and reading more than a chapter whenever I do seems impossible.
    I have pretty much all of these books on my online tbr and I want to read them so bad 😢

    Ok so you’ve made me really, really want to read Thirst, A Good Happy Girl and House Gone Quiet. Colm Toibin is great. I would suggest the prequel to Long Island, Brooklyn. It starts in Ireland and then heads to, you guessed it, Brooklyn. Hahaha. I’m now desperate to know who it was who has blurbed Blessings. Ha! Spill that 🫖 tea.

      Awww this is so sweet! And YES to finding a signed copy! How cool! I so so agree with you, I feel like it's suchhhhh an underrated (and undervalued!) exploration, that of friendship between women. It really often is the building block for intimacy! (there's a whole conversation about how were socialized to replace that with a romantic partner too, which is so unfortunate). I hope you enjoy your time with that one!

  • @bookshelfbyla

    That's so true!! I was definitely in a slump and felt meh about books last year, and this year, I have been moving slower with my reading. I'm not concerned about how much I'm reading; I'm more concerned about reading stories that intrigue me. I do have a goal, but I chose a goal intentionally that I know I will hit with my slower pace regardless (70)- reading one book a week with an audiobook a month will get me there.
    The cemetery of untold stories really intrigues me. I have the audio, but I heard it's good to read as well, so I think I'll have to get a physical copy as well.

    • @katsfieldnotes
      @katsfieldnotes  Місяць тому

      No, I truly want the think pieces explaining the phenomenon, cause I think it's sooooo weird we all experience the same thing! But I love setting that intention around your reading, quantity really at the end of the day doesn't mean a dang thing. And you've been reading some good ones! I just requested House Mate because of you sis!
      The premise of the Alvarez books sounds gorgeous! Libro hooked it up, I might try with audio first since there's something nice about Latinx oral storytelling, but that's good to know people really enjoyed it physically too!

    Also, did you know Marisa Tomei reads the audiobook for The Lying Life Of Adults?! I haven’t read it but I feel like it just has to be amazing right?
    I also completely feel the same about slumping in reading goals for 2024, if slumping is even the right word for it. I’m on pace to read the least amount of books in a year since 2021, and while it does freak me out a bit, I have also been exploring new hobbies and spending more time with friends IRL since before the pandemic. So it’s hard to be too terribly mad about it, ya know? Hoping to get lots of good reading time in this summer though. ❤
