@@arghanothername I'm shocked that the intro-meme for this episode wasn't a screenshot of the end of that match- pan to their lifetotals- que: "You're probably wondering how I got here... Well-" style meme. What a missed opportunity.
The mistcaller in the merfolk matchup actually didn’t do anything - it stops non token creatures that aren’t cast. You cast Aeve, and then you get all the tokens in addition.
Have you considered Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth to help fix your mana, maybe instead of a Forest or a Grove of the Burnwillows? Seems like it would also help with the GGG in Aeve's mana cost.
I don't know if this would help. Most of the mana, when storming off, comes from rituals. The only one that produces Green is Manamorphose. So a Cradle wouldn't help by making your lands all Forests.
With the list as Seth played it, only the 2 mountains can't produce green mana so the addition of Yavimaya (probably for 1x forest) doesn't gain much except to add a few more dollars to the deckprice. Where it may be useful is if you want to lower the cost of the deck by replacing the Stomping Grounds. You could replace the 4x shocklands with 1-2 Yavimayas + a few more mountains. You will take a hit on consistency though in the instances where you draw the mountains and are unable to cast the Aeve.
@@SciophileAhh, I see. I'll concede that you're right technically, but its a youtube comment section (on a card game) and its not hard to imagine a less mathematically read viewer to misuse that equation with say a sum from -1 to 50.
This deck was truly superb! I feel like the one thing that screwed you a few times was not always adding double green off manamorphose. I think there were a few times that might have saved you and let you cast Aeve, that triple G is brutal
The Chatterstorm - First Day of Class deck is BUSTED in Pauper right now. Here's a league from the excellent Caleb Gannon with his version of it: ua-cam.com/video/VAaIltuf4Ew/v-deo.html
Um, wow. Like, just...wow. I’ve never played pauper, I know very little about it, but I can’t imagine that this deck will last much longer in the format. From what I can tell, looking at the ban list and the deck, they’ve banned all the storm payoffs but left the enablers, so a new payoff gets printed and it’s immediately busted. Why wouldn’t they print Chatterstorm at uncommon instead?
Math: to calculate the damage done by oozes, average the highest and lowest power, and multiply that by the number of oozes. For example @16:30, (9+2)/2=5.5, 5.5*8=44. OP Soaks up 5, Birgi adds 3, so you hit for 42. 42-27 life puts OP at -15.
I like the suggestion of the filter land (Fire-Lit Thicket). It definitely helps casting Aeve, but it does trip you up a little when you are storming off with the red rituals with one of the cost-reducers in play since it can't naturally add a single red mana. The filter lands would be a good replacement for the shocks to lower the overall deck price.
I bursted into laughter at how the opponent tried to block some damage on that massive attack 😂 The amount of cards on your side was also just too hilarious!
I'd like to think I've mastered Gifts Storm and what I see as this decks weakness is the lack of 1 cmc cantrips. Harvest and Crash are great but what else can draw you stuff turn one and do you have the room for it?
As crazy as it may seem this feels like a deck that REALLY wants at least 2-3 if not the full 4 Fire-Lit Thicket's in the manabase. The ability to filter some of that red mana from all of the rituals into more green mana seems extremely valuable.
Opponent playing burn, casually ends the game with 69 life realizing he is dead in the long run to the opponent who also gained an absurd amount of life. Classic modern burn.
11:16 this moment haunts me. It could have been five hasty 2/2 squirrels, possibly more if First Day of Class' rummage found another ritual or manamorphose, but nah, let's cast it for two 1/1 squirrels
In order to have the green for chatterstorm he needed to cast the rituals before manamorphose, but he didn't know that manamorphose would hit anything good. Maybe it's worth taking the risk and just playing everything out and hoping to go off (hitting another ritual off manamorphose would enable playing past in flames also which would be huge). But I don't blame him for playing it slow there because it wasn't guaranteed.
Back in Lowryn standard I played the burn mirror with neither of us hitting out artifact removal. We both got to 200+ life before I pulled out a w with ashling

@@ich3730 I mean they do, but without haste it isn’t a guarantee. It is preferred but not strictly necessary to combo off, since you can theoretically just hope your opponent doesn’t have it.

No Leyline of Anticipation? Not even in the Sideboard? I thought that was the most hilarious way to play Aeve, and I feel like it's even semi-competitive in some matchups.
i feel like even though you won the game against Lonis deck with Horn on the battlefield, it might be worth playing a single Lesson in the SB because you cast First Day of Class and could've picked up a card to draw an extra two off of the Horn..?
Think you could have won that first Merfolk game if you didn't abundant harvest. Valakut it and Aeve away, potentially still hit the ritual, double ritual, past in flames again then double chatterstorm. Would have given you 25+ squirrels and your opponent didn't kill you the turn after, so a full swing should have won.
During this video I heard Seth say “Stankweed imp” which got me to thinking, a whole lot of dredge players I know are big stoners…I wonder how many of them play stinkweed imp just to be able to say stinkweed during the game. For the record, I’m not high when I’m posting this.
Never played mtgo before. Can you play best of one like arena or do you have to play a league? And how much tix does it cost to play? Is there a free mode?
You can play single match BO3s like you see here. Costs 2 tickets or 20 play points, you either lose and get 5 or win and get 30 playpoints. Or you can play leagues which are 5 rounds with positive records required to get prizes. I forget the exact entry cost and prize structure but I think it's 10 tickets or 100 play points. 3-2 gets you 100 play points, 1 treasure chest, 4-1 gets you 120 PP, 5 treasure chests and 5-0 is 150pp and 11 treasure chests. Then you have challengers and qualifiers etc There is also practice rooms for free play and you can challenge players if you know their username etc but you can't accrue any currency unlike arena if you aren't paying entry. Playpoints are like coins, tickets are like gems.
