Let’s get things straight. For all those ignorant people on here calling this a Turkish or Greek dance, let me just stop you in your tracks. This is a regional dance of the Pontus region aka. The Black Sea region. This dance belongs to the Pontic people who by the way are ethnically Greek, speak a dialect of Greek and obviously indenting as Greek. They have done so for the past 4500 years. They also identify as Roman as this region of the world for some 1000 years was ruled by the Byzantine. In other words, the Eastern Roman Empire. Now to make my point, this dance goes right back to Ancient Greece and developed further in the Middle Ages into the dance we know it as today. The Seljuk Turks arrived in the 13th century AD well and truly after the dance had been created and solidified as an identifying cultural feature of the Pontic people. It also doesn’t belong to the Ottomans for the same reason as they arrived in the 14th and 15th centuries. The only reason why Turks today claim it as theirs is because the commuted mass genocide and forced exodus on the Pontic and Armenian peoples. After doing so, they now attempt to erase the last vestiges of these great people by stealing their culture and labelling it as their own. Dear Turks, no matter how hard you try, the apparent “Turkish” culture you proclaim is yours is nothing more than that of the people you supplanted.

Indeed it is a Greek Culture known as Pontos, BCE until 1924, The people of Pontos originated in Mylitos.
The people speak Pontian Greek which is very close to the Classical Greek or Ancient Greek.
And the dance has been described in the ancient books (Kyrou Anavasis) as the Pythios Dance.

Wow I feel so at home. You guys are great. You are my brothers.I am from Trabzon. My uncle plays the kemenche and sings exactly the same but in Turkish. My grandfather used to tell that most of his friends and neighbours were Pontus Greeks and he loved to eat escargot by his friends. The mother of his Greek friend use to call him whenever they were cooking escargot.Hüseyin come eat but don't be caught by your mother. Haha.We have a lot of musical culture, food, clothes etc. culture mixed with our culture thanks to my Pontus brothers and sisters. No matter what background or religion in which we differ. We were always brothers and always will stay brothers.Greek archelogists discovered a while ago that the very early Greek and Turks have the same dna and originated both from the Caucasus region. Politics try to seperate us but will never succeed.Peace to you all you beatifull people.

It is the same dance. They teach all Turks that this is Turkish dancing. So Batuhan does not know that this is actually Greek dancing. It is not because "Turks" used this kind of dancing, they actually married Greeks. Most the Turks in Turkey were originally Greeks.

This Is not the "same dance" with yours. It's the GREEK ONE which has roots of more than 3000 years and you use it as yours, because you invade Minor Asia hundred years ago and at that time you didn't have cultural characteristics of organised civilisation...

  • @ΓΙΩΡΓΟΣΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΙΔΗΣ-σ7τ

These are GREEK people and GREEK CULTURE. Nothing to do with turkish. This specific Dance (Serra) was performed more than 3000 years ago by Greeks of Black Sea Cost before turkish invasion. So please be careful in what you are writing...

    Well.
    Dance name: Horon
    Horon word: Turkic origin
    Dance instruments: Tulum, Kemenche
Tulum and Kemenche words: Turkic(Tulum=leather case in Khakas Turkic, Kemenche: Cuman Turkic leader name called "Kemenche Khan")
And the Turkic Cumans: have come to Greece and they've invaded Pontic Greek empire, they've destroyed 50.000 of Pontic Greek soldiers in Artvin/Turkey.
The most certain, the instruments and the dance have been brought to Eastern Blacksea by the Turkic Cumans.
Most of today's people of Blacksea/Turkey: are descended from Turkic Cumans, I'm just one of them.
These clothes are also belongs to Topal Osman's and İpsiz Recep's Turk militants who've destroyed so many of Pontic Greek gangsters and helped to Turkish army to expulsion of Greeks ;) You now felt in love with your destroyers :D.

Horos (not horon) is a word probably dated far before classic era...
I'd say close to 3000 years of age - if not more..
Often used to describe the background voices in ancient theaters in Both sieds of the Aegean - far, far before any turk was pushed by the Mongols west to the Kaspian Sea..
In any case it comes from a distant past and an era your tribes where still growing livestocks in the far east (Mongolia?)..
