The whole bit about her going back to high school was poorly handled, since it acts like there's nothing wrong with her leading on a teenager. If it were trying to send some message about the wrongness of an adult hitting on a minor, that would be one thing. And it would fit, since so much of the series is supposedly calling out social injustice. But it treats a man telling an adult to smile like harassment, but an adult flirting with a minor like it's perfectly okay. It just becomes hypocritical
I think it's because she's a woman. Older women flirting with younger men aren't really that much talked about. It's always older men and younger women that's the major problem.

the way that this show is trying so hard to be unbreakable kimmy schmidt...isn't the entire overarching theme of a points app basically an episode of kimmy??? i know it's not exactly the same, but come on!! the overdone comedy, the quirky main character, the gay best friend, the ditzy female friend...if you're going to copy something, at least do it well
Also the subromantic side plot of Liza with the high schooler. While I would prefer her to being doing this “going back for an education” with other adults since that would make it much less creepy, it’d basically be the plot of Kimmy/Dong. It might not be a true copy but there are just so many things that can be compared that it’s hard not to ignore.

This is the comment I needed to see! 😆 I about lost it when I saw their knock-off Titus. It was just too on the nose, between their character and their way of interacting with Liza. Honestly, she could have done a similar character trope but maybe with a less-represented part of that community, and it could have scanned well, but nope. The whole show just seems way too hyper-aware of what it is, and I'm not a huge fan :/

social issues within comedy shows can be done so well if they're integrated right and it matches the plot episode and maybe even the main joke of the episode revolves around it. for example, in a show i love they use the plot point of the main character taking muffins from a seal to provide commentary on glorifying troops/patriotism (the seal is from the navy lmao) and because the plot itself is ridiculous, the message comes across in an arguably subtle way where it isn't jarring and it's just a good episode
