Great tutorial, straight to the point! Also, do you happen to know if there are some caps on the amounts of items you can trade? In the sense that I have a high amount of excess war-bows which are simply not transported to the trading post 😥 (it seems like the market gets over-saturated and bows are not transported to be sold)
Thank you! That's my goal is to make these guides as helpful as possible without added unnecessary / confusing info, so I appreciate that. - As far as I know I don't think there are caps on the amount of items that you can trade which would prevent you from being able to stock your Trading Post (other than the Market Value going down if it gets too over-saturated with any item). If you have all the settings to Export the Warbows in the Trading Post, you have the Trade Route purchased, you have Staff assigned & available, and you have the Warbows at a Storage Building (hopefully nearby) then the Workers *should* stock them. That being said, I've heard several people mention issues with Trading Military Items in particular, so it's possible that it's not functioning completely as intended unfortunately since it's in Early Access still.
Excellent guide. It describes the concepts well in such a short time. The only bit I don't understand is the travelling trader from your own tradepost families. Do they export, import or both? If export, then I assume you still need to buy the trade route for major trades?
Thanks so much, I'm really glad to hear that! - Yes, so your Travelling Traders that are part of the Trading Post Staff can do both (Export & Import). If the Item(s) that you are trying to Export is part of the Major Trade category, then you will need to purchase the Trade Route for your Travelling Trader to be able to transport and sell that Item(s) when they go to the Tradepoints (and they will need access to a Horse as well for Major Trade Items). Hopefully that helps answer your question! :)
Great Guide! I didnt konw that you dont have to purchase the trade route for minor trades jet. But I never built the tardingpost at the kingsroad and as far as I know, they are still working fine.
Thanks so much! Great to hear that it helped you out :) So actually, I should have clarified that a bit better. If you don't build the Trading Post on the King's Road, Minor Traders can still visit your Trading Post. But you will get a warning that pops up saying "Disconnected From The Major Trade Routes". So Major Traders (the ones on Horse) will not be able to visit your Trading Post. Hopefully that clarifies that a bit better!
@ Are you sure? Im pretty sure they do as long as to road the trading post is on is connected to the kings road. So I you need the connection to the kings road, not actually bild it there. But I’m gonna check that the next time I play, maybe I’m wrong
I've never built a Trading Post off the King's Road without getting that warning for "Disconnected From Major Trade Routes". As far as I understand from info from the official Discord / Developer, that is how it's supposed to work. But that being said it's still an Early Access game that has plenty of bugs, so it's definitely possible that there could be some variance in experience with that in mind. Lmk if you discover anything else!
I hear you, there's definitely some pros & cons of it being a "solo developer" at the heart of the project in that sense. Although the game is already far beyond many other games in a lot of ways, even in Early Access. And at this point they have a large amount of resources and community to build upon so I'm hoping that the development process ramps up as the game continues to grow.
I need a guide or assessment of trading between regions only. This option doesn't seem to be working for me. I have a huge beer surplus in the main town and have 2 fully staffed trading posts with 8 horses. My small mining towns have trade posts set up and enough money to buy the beer. However, the shipment only comes about once a year and it is small. I can't progress in the game this way. I will have to wait until I have maxed out income and can buy from foreign supply. Pack horses are weird too. They won't send beer for the goods available.
Honestly, as far as I can tell from I own experience and from doing a bit of research online, it seems like the Trading Post inner-regional Trading is just not optimal currently. Seems like something that will be improved as the game continues to develop. It *should* work as follows: Set up the items that you want to sell to another region with the Export settings as usual, and then unclick the "Allow Foreign Trade" checkbox on those items. In your other region where you want to buy those items, set the Import settings for those items as usual, with the box unchecked as well. The game should recognize and execute the trade at this point. But it doesn't seem to be reliable. I think it may have something to do with it being very far down the task priority list, or just takes a long time to register. I wish I had more info to share on this, but that's all I've got for now. I would definitely suggest using the Pack Station instead though. It's definitely possible that these are a bit buggy too, but personally I've had good experiences with using them. What is weird with them currently in the scenario that you described here? As long as you have items to trade between your regions and you set the settings correctly, it should work no problem. Just keep in mind that Mules are essentially Horses for the Pack Station Workers (they can't move any Major Trade items without Mules), and the amount of items that you trade depends on the trade values of each item being traded from each region - For example if you trade a low value item from your main region to import weapons (which are high value) from another region, you won't import many weapons because you're giving your other region a lesser value item in exchange. I think I'll be making a Short covering how to utilize Pack Station coming next, hopefully that can help as well.
Looks like assigning any animals to any building (except farm houses) is not mandatory. They will use free animals anyway. Only to have an ox to plough a field you have to assign him to a farmhouse. Also, you can employ up to 4 families in a trading post but there are only 2 horse slots there. Buy a horse per each family working in trading posts, i.e. 4 horses per 1 fully staffed trade post. You can also build multiple trade posts to intensify trade.
Yes, you can build more Trading Posts which will mainly just be a benefit for gaining more Traveling Traders. But then you increase the likelihood that you overflood the market and cause item values to go down unless you have a large stock & variety of items. Everyone has a different town setup, available workers, available supplies, etc. Fully staffing multiple Trading Posts with 4 Horses on each one might not be the best idea unless that player has the proper setup for it. Personally, I prefer to keep smaller Towns with more controlled Trade in each region. And there's literally no reason to not assign the Horses at the Trading Post. Ofc there's only 2 spots available and they will use Horses regardless if they are available in your Town, but as it's Early Access I wouldn't be surprised if that gets updated at some point. Also the Traveling Tradepoints that the Traveling Traders utilize are labeled "WIP", so I think building extra Trading Posts for more Traveling Traders will be a limited time strategy. Although to be fair, I guess you could say that about anything as the game is still being developed. If it works, it works right lol. This video is meant to give people the tools to understand the basics to apply both now and as the game develops hopefully tho.
I cant seem to import weapons. i have money, a militia that needs spears/shields and purchased the respective major trade routes. Despite needing weapons my current surplus says zero. I set it to import and the surplus to 1 and nothing happens. I set the surplus to 5 or more and it starts buying stuff. It buys 5 of them and stops for a bit. if i rally troops that sets the surplus all haywire and i have to try again. What's going on? Bugs or am i missing something. For a 36 man unit and 20 starting shields should my import be set to 36 spears surplus?
So for Importing anything in general, you'll need to set the Import Number at the Trading Post to the total number of that item that you want in your Town. So if you want enough for 1 full company, set it to 36, and if you have 20 already then it *should* import 16 more. It is a bit confusing, especially with the "surplus" amount changing whether the militia is rallied or not. I think that part is what it is for now, hopefully the "surplus" tracking of military products will remain a constant number whether militias are rallied or not in the future as the game develops. For now though I think it is because once they rally up, those peasants actually grab those military items out of their houses / storage buildings and then they don't register as being stocked in the Town until they are returned. You may want to turn off Importing of those military items once you reach the desired amount so you don't accidentally import more if you rally your militias and then the Trading Post acts as if you have 0 of those items all the sudden. Hopefully that helps!
If your company is already armed up, you don't need to import anymore. I noticed that non-trade route importing of weapons almost never happens. I had a set of bows for import and crossbows for export an entire game and they just sat at the trading post because I had no route.
Great tutorial and thank you for not dragging it out for 45 minutes. Liked and subscribed!
I gotchu! Thanks so much, appreciate it!

Year 8 all trade routes just stopped working for some reason. Sitting on stocks of shields, war bows, going broke now. Buggy game.
Yeah it makes me scared it'll be stuck in pre-release forever.
