I get wanting to have it changed, but I don't understand why people only suggest "make Wurt have fishing merms and farming merms". Merms don't seem like they would ever be civilized enough for agriculture and fishing merms from shipwreck make no sense to generate essentially free fish for a character that doesn't eat meat.
@@dragonweirdocreap u can give fish to the king to get stuff and food (kelp), and merms are civilized enough to use tools, dig up stumps, use armor, dodge, etc. why not farm?

But who knows maybe they would do it. I'd advocate for something simpler, like giving wurt a craft that lets her mark an area she wants any follower craftmerms to collect items and bring back to her. Would help alot with putting her closer to Maxwell in terms of gathering. As for fishing merms, it just sounds like free resources just cuz. I always found it weird they made it clear merms use fish as pets and are vegetarian, yet shipwreck merms straight up spear fished them. If you gave wurt infinite freshwater fish then it's just infinite recruit fodder and kelp to eat just cuz. If you gave her infinite ocean fish you make her into a gold factory, trawlers do a decent job at getting passive ocean fish already, no need to turn her from gold hungry to gold decadent.

In other games/modes we legit see trader merms with fully developed speech that sell you things. In other games the Merms have significantly better speech than this again indicating intelligence. Only Dont Starve Together Merms are largely uncivilized and you can easily make them civilized by just introducing the Gnaw or part of the Gnaw as a shrine in the constant. Loyal Merm Guards are already a version of the regular Merm that's proven to be smarter so idk why you say they cant introduce smarter Merms when we already have one. All Klei has to do is introduce the Gnaw shrine as a perk and it'd make sense to add smarter merms. The second perk makes Guards able to retreat/engage when you wish, basically giving you better control of them mid battle. But i want all the redundant perks rn (mosquito crafts) to become Merm Variants. I dont want better control of Merm Guards/Craftsmerms at the cost of Merm Variants. I say all this as a dedicated Wurt main who only plays Wurt.
This beta and skill trees reminds me of good ol starcraft cause merms are like zergs with global buffs and even crazier swarms now, winona have got her upgrades for structures as well as being able to "move gear forward" like terrans and at the end of the day the damn protoss shield mechanic as wetness
it changed a little, the meta is still merms, but now it's more interesting because of the structures, tasks from the merm king among other things, I really liked it
Why are you attributing literally *any* of this to planar damage? None of these bosses have armor, and the planar damage effect on the enlightened Mutated Merm Guards is a conversion not an addition, so planar damage did literally *nothing* to contribute to this. Merms barely changed in damage output, they just got the ability to fight planar enemies and got tankier.

Shadow merms are always better for everything. I've tested both Lunar and Shadow merms and Shadow Merms always did significantly better no matter who i pit them up against. Vs regular bosses/mobs (bearger) they did significantly better. Vs planar bosses/mobs (armored bearger) they did significantly better. Vs lunar bosses/mobs (Celestial Champion) they did significantly better. Vs Shadow bosses/mobs (Fuelweaver) they did significantly better. Ill give you guys an example so you know to what extent they do "significantly better". 10 Lunar ones can just barely take out an armored bearger, im talking like 1 merm left and you might have to help out at the end, sometimes bearger lives with like 500 hp. armored bearger vs 10 shadow merms and not a single one of them died. Its not even close, you always go Shadow Merms.
for the beginning of the game shadow merms is better because of its ease as its item can also be picked up early, but in the long run I prefer lunar mainly because of its thorns which are perfect against bosses with area damage.

@@graycatsaderow First step, recruit them. Second step either use mudslinger or feed them moon shards. third step use mudslinger. If it doesnt work, your games bugged. While testing i had many bugs too.

Very good reference, the wetness ability is really cool, but my favorite thing is that winona structures are now portable
I'm glad they gave Wurt a buff she was quite repetitive to grind whenever I last played her.
