You couldnt get more two faced and selfish lol He got mad at me one time because he couldnt manipulate me into giving up my job, my house and my pets to move to another city where I knew no one, because he could "pay for both of us". I got told that I didnt love him because I wouldnt sacrifice for him. That was just one of many things. They can def tear up your heart and your life.

I can’t listen to this song without sobbing. I finally left my husband after 9 years of emotional/mental, verbal, and eventually physical abuse. He’s an addict who was always getting sober and relapsing. He was a veteran… a medic in the army for almost 10 years. We have 3 kids. He was so amazing for awhile and I kept believing he would get better. I feel so stupid now, but I left after he put his hands on me in front of our kids and threatened to kill me. Once it happened in front of them like that, something finally made me brave enough to realize loving him wasn’t good enough. I had to leave. This song always gets me… every single time I hear it. It really is so accurate and just so sad and beautiful. Love Madison so much.

After reading the book, the half of it, I now understand that the lyrics to the song were about how Madison felt about herself and how she wanted to present her artistry within her career along with the toxicity she had to battle to present her most authentic self through her works. "Selfish" was the word she thought might describe the amount of times she wanted to take control of all the decision-making required while in the process of creating her works. Madison is such a sweet and gentle soul, she must be protected at all cost 🤍
