I designed my own MILS plate road system, and when I saw it would cost me about $30 for one straight section... I decided to switch to baseplates, haha! Well done!

Nice way to build LEGO roads. One modification I would suggest: the headlight bricks are slightly wider than a regular brick, so I would place them in the gaps between the yellow 2x2s. The way you use them adds some stress and causes the base plate to bend.

Personally... I prefer them. I just don't have too many of them. If you use the right light source you can see several slightly different shades of the "new light bluish grey." This for me is irritating.

This looks amazing, but it does look like it’s bending the actual road plate, which is something I really don’t like. But I am totally going to have to make my own roads in the future.
The brick count works out perfectly; you need to make sure the bricks in the road surface are completely strongly fastened together.

Good Job:) I build custom UK Lego Road plates with bus lanes and taxi parking on normal baseplates. I use dark grey bricks for my roads. Each lane is 12 studs wide.

The really cool thing about using 1x2 bricks for these is that you can take advantage of the mold tolerances in the bricks to bend your roads and create smooth curved inclines! Such a thing would be perfect if you ever wanted to build an interchange for your highway!

Without having searched your videos, have you made one of these with parking spots on the sides of the road? Been thinking about something like that for in front of some of the modular buildings.
Quite frankly I LIKE the new 2021 road plates...I know this is definitely an unpopular opinion lmao.
Another question, if I may: When using a road plate as the base instead of a regular plate, there are no studs underneath your road surface that support it. (There is gap underneath of half a plate in the version you show here that would otherwise be filled by the studs.) Does the road bend to the center because of this when you put cars on there or is it not a problem?
Btw: I really love that you are able to work on the city again an how it's turning out so far.
How much do these cost to build versus buying the official lego plates?

I was building a city I had a nice city layout but It was on plates and I ddidnt have enough yellow tiles
A solid (double is most common) line is used in most city streets. The solid lines indicate "no Passing! Using a solid on one direction/broken line on the other is generally used on highways to designate a restricted direction passing lane. A broken line is used for an open passing zone - passing in either direction.
This info is available from any DMV website.
The design you use here is not realistic for a city street build.
You did get the white line correct. As a white line is indicative of one-way traffic. A yellow line indicates two-way traffic. So if your road was for one-way traffic only, you would use a white centre line, which could have a broken line for changing lanes to make turns from the proper lane.
That really depends on where you're from. In continental Europe two-lane inner-city streets almost always have broken centerlines, mostly to allow cars to pass unmoving obstacles like a truck unloading cargo.
This road design is modeled after the Lego base street plates which in turn are probably modeled after Danish roads (Lego being a Danish company and all). There is of course nothing wrong with pointing out that if you want to make a road that's accurate to US standards you need to use a different centerline, but it's getting pretty annoying how Americans always seem to assume that if something doesn't match their personal experiences it must be wrong or inaccurate, rather than maybe, just maybe being based on a design used elsewhere in the world.
How do you order the bulk boxes?
Bulk Lego parts ? From Lego pick a brick online and bricklink. There is no cheap secret source to buy from sadly.

Love the roads, just need the LEGOs and space. :D Fantastic job buddy!
There's just one problem I see. Those green 'Headlight' bricks, they don't actually fit there. The stud on the side of them sticks out past the boundaries of the sides of the brick, so it's pressing up against the yellow 2x2s, making the whole thing hard to fit in, and causing the road plate to warp underneath. You could solve this by using either a 1x2 Technic brick with two pin holes, or by offsetting the headlight bricks from the 2x2 yellows.

You are not accurately representing Michigan roads. More potholes, cracks, a debris needed 😆
Looks great but that is one expensive roadway. In a larger layout it would prohibitively expensive.

Just beginning my research on LEGO city(ies), MILS, and MILS roads - do you have the parts / build for those lamp posts? They are AWESOME. I could reverse engineer it, but I'd rather ask for the instructions or at least the parts. Thanks!

So thanks for helping me out
Great system but tiles are ridiculously expensive, my fire station is already over 1000 but I picked up,a bunch of parts to possibly open my own brick link store in the future or build a lotta stuff and maybe sell some Mocs as a business
Dunno how intentional it was, but I love your use of old dark gray mixed in with the dark bley to give the road some weathered texture, making it look like older parts of pavement!

@@BevinsBricksWorld Jep, saw this video as well. Actually, until I saw it I was very negative to the new road system. Well I still am, but if one wants to set up streets with the Mills system its a cool thing.
So some Bricklink seller seems to have 1x2 dark bluish gray bricks from the Pick a Brick wall left. :-) (Or did you get them from LEGO? I also collected a lot of these for road building from the Pick a Brick wall in the past.) Do you feel that roads would look smoother using larger elements (e.g., 1x16 bricks or 1x6x5 panels) instead of the 1x2 bricks? I'm currently using the 1x2 bricks on slopes, since you can bend the road a little bit, but I'm not yet sure whether I should use them everywhere or go for the more expensive panels.
How many 1x2 do I need to make this? Can I get a parts list by chance?

It requires many pieces but the result is great. Did you consider making some manholes using 3185, 3633, 38320 or some 112111 for bumpy road texture?
Amazing! Glad you made a video showing how to build one. I've been wanting to make a small road for my lego ghostbusters city scene with my ghostbusters minifogs and stay puft marshmallow man.
Very similar to how I did mine. My roads are a little bit wider but the same concept. 1x2 technic bricks with 2 holes work great too instead of headlight bricks.

From what I see with the anti-studded plates in the description, their road width is different than that of Lego standard and won't line up with other mils plates.

Great video and I love how you add in the old gray color for detail. Some people hate mixing the 2 but I’m a fan. I just can’t even imagine how many pieces it will take to do all your roads like that.

That looks great! I can see why you would want to go with the mills plate system even just for the roads! You can really customize the different roadways per type of road! It looks really appealing, I just have a hard time justifying spending that kind of money when the Lego road plates work fine by themselves. But it's really starting to grow on me, the transition from city to suburb to urban will be almost seamless, not to mention how you can easily set one up for roadwork with unfinished brown area to finished paved area. I probably will change one day to the mills system but probably not for some time anyways. Great video and thanks for sharing!

I have big problem with mils.
It costs more bricks. Call me old fashioned, but i use my old road plates, and very happy about that 😁
No one says you have to build this way. Its my preferred way to build.
You can add more detail, and different road options this way. I understand your choice ❤
