Thanks for this balanced review. Indeed it's not a "Pocket 2' Killer (Young360, we're looking at you). But it does have some strengths. First, its HDR mode is better than on the Pocket 2 if only because it works with 4K settings and you can't do that with the Pocket 2. And the effect of the HDR is quite evident, bringing up detail from shaded areas without blowing highlights (it's nothing to do with colour). Sometimes though you'll see some unwelcome noise in those shadows. Second, its face tracking is better than the Pocket 2 (but it doesn't do object tracking at all). With the Pocket 2, if it loses sight of your face, it stops tracking (for example if you leave the room or go behind a tree). With the Palm 2, it will resume tracking as soon as it sees you again - or as soon as it sees someone else's face. But having locked onto a face, it's very good at holding it. For some reason, even with the latest FW, the Pocket 2 has worse face tracking than the Pocket 1. Thirdly, it has metering options which I don't think the Pocket 2 has (spot, centre weighted, and average) as well as simple EV adjustment using the joystick. With the current firmware, it seems to produce the best images with EV set to around -1. With these options (plus HDR) you can tweak the video quality to your liking and to suit the shot. Then there's the battery life, which however may not be that stunning if you use 4K all the time. Still, it's got a much bigger battery than the Pocket 2. This gives it the potential to be carried around on walks or whatever already turned on and ready to go if some kodak moment appears. But in just about every other department, the Pocket 2 is equal or better - but of course it costs a whole lot more. You do get what you pay for - and with the DJI products you can walk into a shop to buy them or get them serviced. With Fimi products, you have to send off to China. The latest firmware (29) makes a significant change to the audio - it now has a very aggressive wind noise reduction system, which you wouldn't want to use unless you were desperate. But there's now an option to turn off that feature altogether, and with an external mic with wind shield connected, the audio is quite reasonable. But only mono. Not that stunning immersive surround sound you get from the Pocket 2. I get the feeling that the power supplied to external mics is perhaps a bit low, so it may not work with all of them. I'm planning to do some tests on that soon. Let's see what further firmware updates may bring. It's early in its production cycle. It's certainly very important to keep this one up to date.
Hey Peter! Thanks for the comment. I've finished the video maybe a week before Young360 has published hers, and it is not at all the point to confront her work. She and her team are creators I respect a lot. The quality of the footage is amazing at the given price range. I like the fact you can choose the angle of shooting, and the widest option is really wide! Honestly - compared to the Pocket 2 before the rendering and uploading to youtube, was a lot more in favor of the Pocket. A lot more details, and that's expected of course. In fact - the low light is a lot more different - if somebody wants to see the raw samples, I can upload them somewhere. Also - during the whole time I've shot with the lower bitrate setting on the Pocket 2, because the SD card was giving speed errors. As for the HDR - most of the videos are recorded with HDR and I think it makes a great difference. And it's really nice to see that you have the freedom to use the option pretty much any time you want. For Pocket 2 - there are a lot of things you can't do at the highest quality or FPS. What is not too nice is the fact that Fimi have hardly made any progress on a hardware level. THey either think it's great as it is (which I kind of think as well), or didn't have enough time. But it's also a fact that 60FPS in 4K and decent slow motion is important these days, especially given the competition's strengths. I see the mic input as the greatest strength ever... Right not this seems to be the easiest way to get good vlogging gear that can even track you!
As a GoPro user, I find myself really wanting to try the cheaper cameras,I’m usually impressed with the actual cameras video quality,(with this one I did see some blurring)but as soon as I hear the audio it kills every bit of hope I had at saving a dollar..As if go pro isn’t bad enough...I’m definitely looking for something different then go pro, as they are always cheeping out on their product,only so that they can build some stupid $50-100 add on that you must buy... hopefully watching your reviews, I’ll find exactly what I’m looking for... keep up the good work and thank you so much!
Having a GoPro will make it hard for a device to make you happy! :) Somehow I always come back to GoPro. But there are some nice devices that seem to be a good choice for a second camera.

Might be better to ignore those two and get the insta 360 X2 instead and you can forget face tracking altogether as you'll always be in shot, in fact everything will be!
Hi Michael. Thanks for the excellent review. I wonder what happens if you put a camera gimbal on a smartphone gimbal. I mean the Osmo Pocket 2 or the Fimi Palm in an adapter template made from light particle board or some kind of plastic, and then put the camera and adapter in the gimbal, like a smartphone in portrait position (vertical). A perfect adapter could be done with 3d printer. Could it give better stabilization than only the camera gimbal?
The stabilisation of more or less all these gimbal cameras is essentially perfect for the 3 axes they cover. Choose the "full lock" option, and the camera will record footage that looks like it was mounted on a tripod. But they don't lock the 4th axis, or any higher one. So when you point the locked gimbal at a scene, but you move your hand from head height down to the ground, the picture will change, as it is bound to do. The entire camera is now in a different place. Smartphone gimbals work the same way, stabilising the same 3 axes, so there would be no point in doing the stabilisation twice over. You might think that your idea would help if for instance some firmware bug caused the gimbal camera head to suddenly go sideways, but the smartphone gimbal wouldn't know about that, as it would only be stabilising the handle, not the gimbal head. The most desired improvement to gimbal camera stabilisation is add the 4th axis, sufficiently to iron out the bobbing movement you see when people walk with a gimbal camera. That's caused because their hand goes up and down slightly as they walk (unless they are very good at the 'ninja walk'). Phone gimbals suffer from the same problem. There's a company called "Scotty Makes Stuff" and they make a device intended to at least help a bit with that issue. It involves springs and levers and obviously it adds to the bulk of the gimbal camera. That's the most readily available type of additional stabilisation you can buy.
Hey Aldo, that's interesting idea. But it will take too much effort and will bring too few improvements over the current stabilization. Peter has mentioned a great device from Scotty Makes Stuff - something I plan to show in the coming weeks and might be a game changer in some ways.
Xiaomi just released its latest one intended to battle with the DJI Osmo Pocket 2, The "Xiaomi Morange M1 Camera Gimbal" seems to be created to mimic the Osmo Pocket 2, It now has 4K at 60 and at 100k bitrate.

I got the FeiyuTech Pocket soon after it launched choosing it over the Fimi. It was ok but imagine quality not great partly as a result of the exposure control not handling difficult lighting. I dropped and broke it, made an insurance claim and the insurer replaced the FeiyuTech Pocket with a DJI Pocket which is a win because the DJI is a lot more capable and the image quality a lot better than FeiyuTech. I think this Fimi Palm is somewhere in the middle. Months after breaking the FeiyuTech gimbal I sent it back to them in China and their service department fixed it for US$69. So now I have both DJI and FeiyuTech Pockets side by side. The DJI is better. It’s rocket solid hardware and better IQ
Just recharged my Fimi 1 and turned back on for a bit then died right away. I tried again and didn’t turn back on. There’s no service center in Shanghai.
Hello, I have tried everything but all I get when trying to link the app to my phone the app comes on and the phone wifi says it is connected but all I get is the app screen all in grey with all the features there but nothing turned on and no picture. I have tried it on two android phones and get the same outcome, I watched your video but it did not help do you have any suggestions? Palm 2
I've just bought the Fimi Palm 2, i can't get the app to open, it's connected in the wifi settings, but i'm getting the same greyed out screen, this is so annoying as my Fimi 1 works fine with the Fimi Play app, i'm using android too, i have three devices Samsung tab S5e, Samsung tab S7, and a Samsung Note 10+ phone, the Fimi 2 connects in the wifi settings of each device but the app won't open only a greyed out screen like the person above says.
It's not a bug, they forgot to tell you that the app is designed for the old version and the new and you have to swipe the screen to choose which camera you have.

Enable the Wi-Fi on the Fimi device, connect via the wifi settings of the phone to the SSID of Fimi Palm and then open the app. Make sure location services are ON.

in your personal opinion, would the DJI Pocket gimbal still be worth the buy in 2022? I imagine they'll be coming out with a new edition in the future. I need to have pocket gimbal soon and don't know if I should splurge for the DJI (when a new version could come out soon), or save some money and go with a lesser brand.
Nice review, and comparison with the DJI Pocket. I'm disappointed there was image improvements with the 2nd Gen. So if you own the first Palm, it's probably better to wait for Palm 3.

I have the same issues with the Palm (1) - battery and overexposed. Quick tips for people who have the same issues too. For the battery, mine looked like fully dead but worked after a few charges and discharges (a charger with high Amp could help). It is less good as before but it works. For the overexposing, the issue came after a firmware update and it seems that the "photo" settings are taking over the "video" settings. Go in "photo" mode, manually adjust the aperture, ISO and so one. For me the EV setting has to be put back to 0.0EV. Now it works even if sometime I have to repeat this process.

Hey, so glad that you are enjoying the content here. THere's no need for activation. I also dislike DJIs approach for that. |And sure - you can download the files using WiFi. Or simply eject the microSD and use a card reader.
It's like a cheaper version of the DJI pocket2, I'd say this is the probable difference between a regular version and a pro version of the same device (like a Samsung galaxy and Samsung galaxy pro) except here, 2 different companies make them lol
I must say I am dissapointed on my FimiPalm2. Been testing it now two days and the sound is shit with or without extra mics and the pic/video is not so good.... dissapointed.

I bought P6A after watching your review many times. I watched dozens Fimi Palm 2 reviews and most of them showing firmware issues. I chose P6A (ready out of the box). I planing use external audio recorder (phone), so audio quality is not the problem.
I think it's remarkable how much of quality they've squeezed out of this image sensor and processor. I don't think the quality will get much better than that.

I think both samples are in favor of DJI Pocket 2, but the Fimi Palm 2 is indeed not that far in terms of performance. GIven the price point and the fact you will probably avoid low-light, it makes good sense. I noticed some horizon issues with the Palm while shooting the samples, so put this into consideration too.

Awesome summary! Yeah, DJI are quite advanced in the areas of AI and automatizations. Their APP is also quite nice.

I had similar issue with my Fimi Palm 1. There used to be replacement batteries on Ebay.
The dji pocket cameras require a very specific phone (from a list of 10 or so, I think) to use. Does this need a phone at all?
No phone needed. And DJI pocket camera have this as a recommended list. It works fine with a lot more other phones.

Sounds like a bug. Better contact the FImi support and let them know. Which smartphone models do you use?

in your personal opinion, would the DJI Pocket gimbal still be worth the buy in 2022? I imagine they'll be coming out with a new edition in the future.
I need to have pocket gimbal soon and don't know if I should splurge for the DJI (when a new version could come out soon), or save some money and go with a lesser brand.

The low light shot from the start has a LUT applied and that's why looks cool. Overall - there's not much you can do in order to make it great
I have the same issues with the Palm (1) - battery and overexposed. Quick tips for people who have the same issues too. For the battery, mine looked like fully dead but worked after a few charges and discharges (a charger with high Amp could help). It is less good as before but it works. For the overexposing, the issue came after a firmware update and it seems that the "photo" settings are taking over the "video" settings. Go in "photo" mode, manually adjust the aperture, ISO and so one. For me the EV setting has to be put back to 0.0EV. Now it works even if sometime I have to repeat this process.
Same happened to me! I did a factory reset and it's fine now. As for battery - turns out it's replaceable and you can buy a new one on Aliexpress.

The DJI Pocket series often get discounts. Also - $200 is not 40% of $350, but it's true - adding the DJI accessories makes it cost a lot more.
It's like a cheaper version of the DJI pocket2, I'd say this is the probable difference between a regular version and a pro version of the same device (like a Samsung galaxy and Samsung galaxy pro) except here, 2 different companies make them lol

I must say I am dissapointed on my FimiPalm2. Been testing it now two days and the sound is shit with or without extra mics and the pic/video is not so good.... dissapointed.

I bought P6A after watching your review many times. I watched dozens Fimi Palm 2 reviews and most of them showing firmware issues. I chose P6A (ready out of the box). I planing use external audio recorder (phone), so audio quality is not the problem.
The P6A is excellent at its budget, with the major disadvantage in low light. But - for daytime shooting does a great job.
Can you connect It to an Android phone and use It as phone camera for irl live streaming on Twitch?

I think it's remarkable how much of quality they've squeezed out of this image sensor and processor. I don't think the quality will get much better than that.

You can use it during rain for a short period of time. It is not waterproof.

I think both samples are in favor of DJI Pocket 2, but the Fimi Palm 2 is indeed not that far in terms of performance. GIven the price point and the fact you will probably avoid low-light, it makes good sense.
I noticed some horizon issues with the Palm while shooting the samples, so put this into consideration too.
What camera are you using while seated? That focusing speed and accuracy is insane! I love it.
Oh, I love the autofocus feature every single time. The camera is Sony A7C (AF should be the same as with A7III); Lens used is the Samyang 16mm.
