This message was important long before now. White people have got to step up and stop systemic racism and white supremacy. We created this horrific problem and we need to fix it, as well as pay reparations. Black people should not have to beg and protest for their lives simply for being black.
I’ve been listening to this song for years and have been thinking about it so much lately during these horrible times we are facing. Cobi, thank you for this compelling film and message. We need it now more than ever.
Cobi I really hope so too. A shift in focus is extremely necessary right now and songs like this really help captivate a different perspective. Thank you for showcasing that!
This played while I was on a walk today, and I broke down in tears because this message ran deep into my skin and bones. I believe everyone needs to hear this now, and realize what's going on in this country-- and chop this "tree" down. Thank you so much for making such a beautiful masterpiece.
I wonder if he knows how amazing this song makes me feel as an individual human being. just the expression in his voice along with the words and the beat. I could literally cry with this song on repeat for hours at a time . I love this song to death
COBI!!!!!!!!!! YOU DID IT!!!!! Sooooooo many tears of joy! I am so so so proud of you. Even the comments below, I've read all of them and it makes me cry all over again. I love the comment, "I don't even want him to be famous I just want him to get the attention he deserves." Cobi you are deep waters. Your music exudes your soul so eloquently. You have a gift of reaching the heart with your words and a talent with your voice that is pleasing to the ear and calming to the soul. I salute you and all you do! Forever your friend and your fan! So much love to you brother!!! And super shout out to Adam, Reza, Ava, Daniel, Angelica & Zaid for the tireless work you did through out the process to make this a reality. I am so grateful to have been a part of this momentous event. Jacob, thanks for being who you are and making connections like this we all get to be changed by.
they could have easily just cut his rope saving that one black man. However the problem wasn't the rope in actuality it was the enormous and difficult to cut down tree being the metaphor for the entire system of oppression that disinfranchises the back community as a whole. And not just one of us but ALL of us black, white, and and every other race needs to stand up and work together to end institutionalized racism because injustice is a threat to justice everywhere! He did a good job!
I come back this this song/video regularly. Not only a beautiful deliverance by Cobi, but a tough reminder of how it was... and still is, today. Society has a disease and it's in need of a cure before we end ourselves. Peace. 3:)
This song means a lot to me! I have spent the majority of my life trying to hang myself with the rope that I have created. Thank God for my family. They have held me up and refused to let me die. I'm still shopping at that damn tree but I wouldn't even be able to swing the axe if not for my family and I know they are standing next to me everyday chopping just as hard. Family is all. Even if you weren't born with a good one you can make one.
A modern day "Strange Fruit". Chilling, graphic, heart wrenching. But we have to face that this was and in some ways still in existence in terms of racial tension. Many people want to act as if racism never truly existed, but the cold harsh reality is that it is responsible for countless numbers of deaths and it is still a major problem today.
I think that there are very few people that "want to act as if racism never truly existed". Racism then was horrible and it hurts to watch reenactments of brutality like this, but I don''t see the point in continually talking bringing it back up and all the pain that came with it. Yes, let's not forget our history, but, no, let's not spoil our futures'.
I've loved this song for a long time and for the first time the true physical meaning of the chorus really hit me. Your words are worth nothing. Either cut this tree down and hold me up from beneath or save your breath.
Love this song! I’ve been listening for years and with all the horrible things happening lately I’ve been thinking a lot about this song and it’s message. Thank you Cobi you have touched many lives!
I have been having so much inner conflict with grief of a personal loss since January, and not being able to express it or be there for the people that matter most to me because I can't except that he is gone. The lyrics of this song just spoke to me. Obviously, it wasn't meant for me. Just know that you are doing something right with your music
Got snagged by this melody a few months back - understood the lyric “rope around my head” thought it was a suicide theme - every time it played randomly on the music feed - it stopped me in my tracks and cried turn up the volume. Decided to give money for it. Then watched the vid. Cannot watch without tears streaming - hits a deep place of shame. Thank you songwriter for reaching in, gripping every heart string and plucking the pain there. May abundant blessings be yours Artist.
Cobi- I have heard your soulful voice echo between mountains, in the deepest of forests, on the widest oceans and in all cities all over the globe......... And now I have finally found you! ♥️ God bless you
I remember I interviewed him on the Marc Gordon show 5 years ago, When he use to be with Gentleman hall band. He's been solo for a while. Shout-out to Jay who always promoted him for years doing blogs.
The song is catchy, it brings a good message, and Cobi has amazing talent. I believe in time, this song has the potential to become famous. Who else agrees?
You are a very intellectual man thank you for this representation. It was well needed for people who are oblivious to what surrounds them. Me , listening to every word of this song and watching the video gave me the chills. I almost had tears falling from my eyes. This video implies to never stop the problem from its surface , things start within , it is the root in which you destroy for many to escape. 💜
Just saw you on The Tonight Show. 'Bout time they got a rockstar on there. Powerful lyrics and performance. I think I'll leave it on my DVR forever. Rock on baby you goin' far!
WoW . His message could never get more important than now

this video deserves way more recognition than its getting. not many awakened people I guess.

It’s got me thinking about this video a lot too. Thanks for leaving your feelings here. I hope others share the sentiment.
Cobi I really hope so too. A shift in focus is extremely necessary right now and songs like this really help captivate a different perspective. Thank you for showcasing that!
Bad news, we need it now more than ever.

How isn't this song more popular!? How!?!
Scarlett Peterson unfortunately people like to listen to songs talking about money, drugs, or sex more than songs with meanings
Because ppl don't understand the gospel..Clueless ...smh
I come back this this song/video regularly. Not only a beautiful deliverance by Cobi, but a tough reminder of how it was... and still is, today. Society has a disease and it's in need of a cure before we end ourselves. Peace. 3:)
