I was up at Wrigley a few weeks ago and they played a video of Harry Caray for the 7th Inning Stretch.....The 7th Inning Stretch at Wrigley is one of the cool experiences in all of basebal!
Jack buck was truly a man who found what he wanted to do, and did it with everything he had. I miss hearing him on the radio. This is the first time I have seen this video and I loved it. I have to think that Jack is still issuing a play by play upstairs, and Harry Caray is right there with him. 2 icons for sure.
In the bottom of the 7th, Jack was in the booth with Chip and Steve, and Sammy Sosa hit a mammoth Home Run on to Waveland Ave. Chip said, “How do like that, Jack Buck?” And Buck said, “I think I made him mad!”
Jack was probably the only person who could sing over the mike at Wrigley and say Cardinals without the Cubs fans getting angry. You can hear them boo him for it, but it's obviously all in fun.
Jack! Those glasses were WAYYYYY TOO SMALL! But we forgive you old friend. I grew up in STL listening to you and Harry on KMOX in the late 60s... The greatest broadcast TEAM there ever was. Don't rest in peace boys... Drink lots of Budweiser and tell those stories...
I readily admit that Vin Scully was the greatest of all time, with his smooth style, longevity and ability to tell a story. But if you're a midwesterner, there were no two broadcasters more iconic than Harry Caray and Jack Buck. And I had the privilege, though I didn't know it at the time, of listening to them both working together, as I came of age in the late 60s in St. Louis. This is such a kick here to watch Jack have fun with his old friend's 7th inning stretch tradition. Harry never did this in St. Louis, it started under Bill Veeck on the south side of Chicago with the Sox. Jack butchered the timing of the song here... But it didn't matter. If this doesn't bring a lump to your throat and a smile to your face, well then you just don't love the greatest rivalry in sports.. The Cubs and the Cardinals!
20 years ago today, Jack died. As it turns out, this would be the only time he would lead the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley Field. Yet, let us not mourn his death, but rather celebrate his life. Makes me laugh hard when he shouts, "For the Cardinals!"
A year later he was dead. If you watch his hands closely here you can see them shaking at times from his Parkinson's. But that golden voice never waivered. Jack and Harry. Forever together.
I was at this game with my then fiance who is now my wife. It was fun to see that even though I am a Cubs fan true and blue! The starters that day were Kerry Wood for the Cubs, but the Cardinals it was Darryl Kyle. Within just a couple of moths of this game, both Jack Buck and Darryl Kyle had died.
They both died the same week in June of 2002, a year later. But your point is well taken, only Jack could've come into that booth at Wrigley and did what he did... And leave everyone feeling great about the Cardinals, Cubs, baseball and life. You know Harry and Jack had very very different personalities, but they had one thing in common:. They both loved people, and that contributed to their longevity and their popularity in each of their respective cities.
I hope y'all will reply to this I like both the Cardinals and the Cubs Jack did a good job singing...though he's not perfect I like Jack's boy Joe Buck and this was three months before this great country which despite its flaws I still love was attacked
As A White Sox Fan.
You Gotta Love Jack Buck. Legendary Cardinals Broadcaster

Only Jack could get away with doing that in Wrigley.
Greatest broadcaster ever. I love Shannon, but Jack's voice was one of a kind.
I miss Jack... It was always the start of summer listening to him broadcast Cardinal baseball.

I love Jack Buck. He's sorely missed.
🐐miss you

Bob Uecker too
@Sloppyplane37 Yep Ueck too
Only Jack could have got away with the way he was teasing the Cubs fans.
This is, in my opinion, the best 7th inning stretch singer the Cubs have ever had since Harry died.

Yep, he did this just a year before he died. I'm so glad he did. His sense of humor was dry... and brilliant.
Mike Shannon is almost unrecognizable. He looks so young. And Steve Kline was wearing 44.
He sang this June 6, 2001
I had to wonder too since he died on the same day that Darryl Kile pitched his last game, and he died 4 days later, also in Chicago.
A year later he was dead. If you watch his hands closely here you can see them shaking at times from his Parkinson's. But that golden voice never waivered. Jack and Harry. Forever together.
HAHAHA love Jack sticking it to the Chicago crowd...
Here cause I heard joe buck talk about this in the game today 6/12/21

And a few months he read the 9-11 poem

That's Chip Carey, not Mike Shannon
Right. Chip is Harry's grandson... The son of Skip Caray. Three generations of announcers!
I about laughed to death when someone thought Mike was chip lololol
Who knew Barbara Bush went to Cub's games? 1:22
which yeaar was this????
2001.
@@williamdurbin1576 I hope you will reply to this this was 3 months before this great country with all its faults I still love was attacked
They booed jack buck at wrigley field 😆
Yeah but it was all in great fun.
Jack and Kyle died the next year after this.
