Yes am a old Paisley Buddy left there in 1978 with all my Family I had a wonderful Child and adult bringing up its not the Town it was sadly

Paisley isn't full of junkies and neds thats just on the outside. If you go deep its full of wonderful characters and honest people. I've lived in paisley all my life and i'm proud to be a buddie.
I remember a fort or castle not far from the cross. it had a draw bridge, and the police
used it, until they moved into the old Camphill school premises. AM I correct in saying this, as i am think it was demolised along with the paisley theatre so that a
indoor shopping centre could be built, over the river cart.

Yes, the county buildings, burgh buildings, police office and prison were grouped together and demolished to make way for the Piazza. Google 'paisley prison' for a couple of pictures.

What has damaged paisley town centre is breahead,no free parking,lack of police to clear away drug dealers,junkies and neds,licencing previous shops as bars which results in other bars closing because lack of trade and the pedestrian precinct could be a problem.The problem is we need to attract major shopping chains to come to paisley and to do that we need to start by police clearing the centre of drug users and neds,create more free parking from councils who are obsessed with money making(if there are more shops vacated then the council will make even more money its a nobrainer)deal with the pedestrian precinct which was a disaster from the start,in general make it more attractive for good shoppers then we can think about competing with braehead,lets get paisley back the way it should be.

The basic reason is that the council collects a rates bonanza from Braehead shopping centre.
