    Draper draped Musetti in some of the best groundstrokes! Solid tennis, beautiful passing shots and amazing drop shots. A complete performance.

      Draper has really compact strokes off both sides, he uses all that muscle to generate pace without needing to set his body up, so he can hit attacking shots even on the run. His movement, net play and smashes are also superb. Makes him very hard to beat until he overheats and collapses which he was starting to do against Musetti. In fact Musetti broke back at the end of the 2nd set, and I think if he could have held on would have won the 3rd comfortably, but he self destructed at 4-4 and hit 4 unforced errors on his service game against a very tired Draper and gave it away.

    Draper's shots straight off the bounce are fantastic, really his forte. He has a habit of hitting those running pass shots regularly. Going to be a regular top 10 soon enough.

    Woah, Draper is a stud. Mussetti didn't play badly at all, insane level all around, what a great match! For a thicker built player Draper moves so well. I could watch Mussetti hit backhands all day, all of his variations are so aesthetically pleasing, the slice, drive, volley, lob, it all looks so elegant and dignified. Dude could have been a ballet dancer if he didn't do tennis! lol

    That was some seriously high level tennis from both players. If they can keep close to that level for best of 5 over 2 weeks, both will be serious contenders for majors. 👏

    Draper has the game to be a top 5 player in the world. He doesn’t really have any weaknesses other than his fatigue/ body holding up in grand slams. Technically though he’s pretty faultless.

    I actually think Draper has the best “passing shot” on the ATP tour. As in all around, backhand, forehand, on the run, shuffling back. Best all around passing shot.

      @bachstrad1994 it's a valid point,, was thinking that myself..he has to sort whatever fitness issues he clearly has out ASAP.. he absolutely has the game to win anything against anybody.

      @khalidhussein5346 Годину тому +1

      @@craigbishop939 I was just saying on another comment I think because he's such a big guy it takes a lot for him to get around the court and it also takes a lot to recover from punishing games. It is something he and his fitness team need to resolve as it will be an issue if he wants to go deep in slams consistently. Maybe he needs to trade a bit of muscle for a slightly leaner frame to help with recovery time? It's a interesting one, I hope they resolve it because he is so good to watch and it'd be great to have him up there consistently competing with Sinner and Alcaraz.

    • @HeavyTopspin
      @HeavyTopspin Годину тому +1

      He played about as well as I've seen him today and in this tournament. But top three? Nah, he's a long way from that. I feel that he, Fils, and Shelton are all fighting it out for who's going to emerge as the premier "big guy with big strokes" from this generation, and all three need to make substantial strides on their mental games if they're going to break into the top 10.

    • @lowercasehorse2363
      @lowercasehorse2363 Годину тому +4

      @@HeavyTopspindrapers problem isnt his mental game what so ever. Its very clearly his fitness. When he plays against great people he tends to play better not worse. He is normally relativly clutch. The clear problem for him is fitness. Struggling near the end against sinner at the us open. He must have thrown up on the tennis court at least 5 different times by now due to heat/exhaustion.

    Draper is particularly one of the few players that I've seen that can push Sinner and Alcaraz for at least the first two sets. I can still see he struggles physically. If his box can up his stamina level I can seriously see this guy becoming a top 5 in maybe 2 years, could be less though

Hope he manages to sort it because he's such a great player to watch and one of the few that can go toe to toe with sinner and Alcaraz. That running forehand down the line is a thing of beauty.

    Musetti’s shot variety is still lacking - over reliance on topspin forehands even where a simple flat put away is indicated - and unprepossessing serve.

      I still think he tends to play on all surfaces like he's playing on clay.
      His forehand looks awkward at times, to some degree, as he just seems a little off balance.
      I also feel he chips the backhand too much rather than being aggressive with it.

    Hmm....very impressive..but that forehand sits up too much in the mid court when he gets tight..backhand has much more weight. Dare I say it but it still looks like a junior forehand, too much spin & too short too often. Sinner et all will hit thru that. Any way amazing tenacity & he looks in amazing shape - good luck tomorrow .

    Oh christ. What a letdown. For once I bought a ticket to a final and all the top seeds either dropped out or were chasing Arab money. Such disappointment. I bought the ticket on the promise of maybe a repeat of last year's blockbuster final but now I'm not going to see a blockbuster one. Almost makes me want to sell the ticket, but it's too late even for that. Musetti - De Minaur would have been the best case scenario now and Musetti already messed it up

Would love to live in Vienna but I don't..I travel for it just like I would do for concerts for the bands I like. Except that when you pay for a band to see, you are promised to see it. I bought a ticket for the final expecting to see a blockbuster match. If I would have known there isn't going to be one, I would have bought a ticket for Tuesday to see Thiem's farewell match live. And by the way, I'm such a casual that I expect that if we 2 play a match, I'd give you bagels. I'm pretty sure that would be the case even not knowing you.
