    In this video CJI 2024 CJI 2024 | Levi Jones-Leary - Insane Guard Game I discuss the amazing guard game of Levi Jones- Leary and how he was able to stop all of Lucas Hulk's attacks and initiate attacks of his own and beat him in the first ever CJI competition.
    I've been a Brown Belt since 2022 and also moved back to Missouri to continue my training. I will be brining Rolling/Sparring Video Breakdowns to the channel on a regular basis so stay tuned for more! I'm always looking to improve and what better way to do that than to post my rolls on the internet for people to watch and dissect. What could go wrong? lol
    In this CJI 2024 | Levi Jones-Leary - Insane Guard Game I describe how Levi Jones-Leary
    was able to complete hard counter the passing style of Hulk by using the keymaster, K-guard and Shallow lasso to prevent hulk from passing with his knee cut pass.
    Levi Jones-Leary has always had an amazing guard but at CJI it looked and in my opinion was all but unbeatable. He pretty much shut down all attempts at guard passing and initiated a ton of leg attacks, upper body attacks and a slick back tacking position to beat out hulk. Notice how he uses 4 points of contact to stay in front of his opponent and have layers of frames that prevent the guard pass. Levi also utilizes inversions to not only maintain the guard and stop the north south passing but also to get under his opponent to initiate the leg attack game from the bottom. Levi was able to use the Choi-Bar to back take sequence to completely win the last round. Showing everyone that his guard is not only defensive in nature but offensive as well.
    If this is a series you want to see more of OR this format is one you enjoy more than how I previously made videos please leave a like on the video and a comment in the comment section so I know! I really hope that people can take away some of the principles of guard passing from watching and try to implement them into their game when dealing with tough guards! If you have any comments leave them in the comment section and think about subscribing to the channel and hitting the notification bell so you don't miss out on any of my videos.
    I hope you guys like the video and strive to be 1% better everyday! Thanks for watching! Peace!

    It's crazy how LJL uses that lasso leg to constantly pummel. He's developed a lot of dexterity with it, almost ape like.

      He had it there every single time Lucas touched him. Just extra insurance to prevent the pass and square up when needed

      And really fun to watch, I used to not care for guard players cause it was just stall and sweep but these two have more offensive guards than most. The choi bar setups are dynamic as hell too

      Really makes me want to try out Levi’s guard and see how he doesn’t get knee injuries paying that keymaster.

    Hey man, really love this style of breakdowns with the pausing and drawing to point things out. Love that you explain the why, it helps out a lot of novices like myself a lot. Keep up this style and format of breakdowns if you can man, it's very much appreciated. Instant subscribe.

      Can’t win if all you do is retain. He did well when he was offensive though I think he could have won if he had more offensive movements

    • @ronaldp.vincent8226
      @ronaldp.vincent8226 Місяць тому +1

      @ Can’t win if all you do is disengage and never adapt your passing game to your opponent. Levi more sweep and submission attempts by far, so I don’t know what more he could have done. When your opponent just backs away and explodes out of every grip without taking their own grips, the match can’t move forward.

    Thanks for another great breakdown!
    His lateral knee flexibility is insane. As an older flexible dude, I'd be afraid of losing my ACL/MCL.

    • @ursinhobjj
      @ursinhobjj  4 місяці тому +6

      I’m wondering how to play key master and avoid lateral injuries to the knee. It seems that if the person pushes forward into the leg that is doing the key master it could really damage the knee. I guess that’s why he cross body frames with his arm to take away some of the tension.

    • @funzy688
      @funzy688 4 місяці тому +4

      @@ursinhobjj his hip flexibility looked like a big factor~ I'm guessing the stress to the knees can be taken off when your hip can rotate. I wanna develop an outside guard but if my knees can't take it I'm gonna bulk up and play a Gordon/Danaher style inside guard instead. awesome breakdown btw

    • @wusgood506
      @wusgood506 4 місяці тому +4

      the more mobility you have with external rotation of the hip, and glute/piriformis, the less tension there is on your lcl/lateral parts of your knee
      and you add being on a hip/angle, you almost remove the possibility of hurting yourself here, and of course personally if you don't feel comfortable there anytime you feel you're going to be reset back onto your back/flat, you can always just give the pass
      tldr; lateral pressure comes from being flat/not being on your side when looking for that lasso, so you can alleviate this by being on your opposite hip of the leg you're trying to lasso/high pummel with. Extra insurance if you work external rotation of the hip and glute/piriformis mobility and strength!

    • @wusgood506
      @wusgood506 4 місяці тому

      @@ryanpatterson3900 of course! speaking from personal perspective, i've never fully torn my lcl but i sprained it (which took about 4 weeks or so to heal up) and that was enough for me to really take into consideration the positioning of my lower body especially in a retaining situation!
