    A lot of the planners that launched this year are from small businesses - one woman shops. And so the limited quantities and preorders have very little to do with marketing strategies and to do with the financial commitment to launching a planner. As someone that’s designing a planner to launch next year for 2025 I know to well the huge undertaking it is from a time and creativity standpoint to the financial aspect.

    Such a great topic! I was caught up a couple of years ago things changed since i changed my mindset on consumerism and finances and became more content. I think the main problem overall is social media. These problems didn’t really exist until the birth of social media and influencers. I enjoyed your video on this topic

      Maybe you are right. I do have none of these problems - and I really have a hard time understanding what‘s happening in the psyche during consumerism. But I have no social media accounts for this stuff except YT and - since ages - I do turn off all notifications for all apps (except my timer app). It is all about being self-determined vs. externally determined. A planner shall serve you, not the other way around! We need to feel ourselves to make good decisions: What do I really need? vs. What do I crave for? Endure reunciation is a big part of it, too.

    I love notebooks. I don’t feel as guilty over those because they are blank and I know I can use them for work or as a planner, but I certainly do not need to buy anymore. But, I allowed myself to get sucked in this year and I purchased more planners than I can use 🤦‍♀️. I will be selling some, and those that do not sell I must find a purpose for. 😭

    I’m thankful this video popped up on my feed. I especially loved your anecdote about planning as a child. I too have been trying to introspect about where my urges with planning as a habit originated . I also loved how you are not being too hard on yourself even when you’re trying to identify consumerism in your planning life, and rather approach the question with curiosity and calm reflection. Also you have a really calming way of speaking which was so nice to listen to.

    I definitely have changed a lot over the last couple years in regards to how many planners and planner covers I purchase. I was constantly changing things up and never being content and this year I will say for the first time I have forced myself to stick it out and I am so glad I have. I already have my planner chosen for 2024 and really intend on doing the same thing. The cost of things is way too high for me to allow myself to be fickle.

    I don’t usually comment on vids but I happened across this video on my feed and I really appreciate it. Consumerism and FOMO is so real when buying planners and stationery. And I’ve been trying to be more conscious and realistic about the things I’ve been buying. Your points really resonated with me, so I’ll be trying to reuse my old notebooks and things that I’ve bought. Thank you for making a video about this topic because I think it’s really important to re-evaluate the way we buy into things that seem “practical” at the time but tend to feed into our rampant consumerism habits

    Thanks so much for sharing!! I did a stationary no buy in 2021 till 2022 and then this year just exploded with journal cover purchases and other stationary goodies. While I do not regret some of them, I also am taking a step back to ensure I can use what I have and not just fall blindly into consumption for consumption sake. I'm really happy the stationary community is being open about how consumerism affects this hobby and how these videos are becoming more common. I might make my own, but I find almost no joy in editing videos, so thank you again for sharing your experiences!

    Great insights! I started using HP in 2017 and loved the idea of refillable discs and reusable covers. Unfortunately I fell into the excessive consumerism rabbit hole because of all of the sticker packs, extension packs, dividers, dashboards, etc. And the funny thing is they don't even sell an entire year's worth of refillable spreads in one package. It became so frustrating for me that I eventually just went back to basic planners that I can find at the drugstore. They worked years ago and they still work now 😆

    I left a long comment about my planner journey but since I voice recorded it and it was full of errors! So I deleted it. So now I’m just back to say that I really really enjoyed this video, especially the early part when you described your upbringing, your scheduled life and the various planners you used or were introduced to as a child and young adult. Thank you for sharing, that was really enjoyable! And I agree with everything you said in this video. It’s all FOMO, social media, rampant consumerism and I am right there with everyone else. Even though I’m in my mid-60s and I’ve been using calendars and planners since I was a child, I too got caught up in the past 10+ years with all the videos and planner companies. I’m sure I at one time had a planner by every single maker. If you can call out the name of a maker, I probably had one or have one. A great thing happened though in the last year or two. I feel like I’m over my FOMO. In fact now I just get anxiety when I see the over the top consumption of planners, stickers, etc. I’m not there 100% but I am slowly moving towards a smaller footprint. I don’t know that I will ever be down to one planner because I do a lot of research, I have a lot of hobbies and I will always have notebooks to contain that information as well as my planner. In 2024 I’m going to try a Roterfaden. It will hold my A5 planner, a reference Stalogy half year notebook, a scratch pad and a devotional or self care journal. I’ve been a long time user of notebooks, ringbound planners and travelers notebooks. I thought I’d give the metal clips a try with the goal of keeping everything, or almost everything, and one notebook. For my handbag I will have my hobo weeks and when I travel maybe a passport tn. A far cry from what I used to have!

    • @2tinytreasures
      @2tinytreasures  7 місяців тому

      Now I have to look up Roterfaden 😆 but just for research! Thank you 😊 when I was looking into pairing down for 2024 I too realized that a 1 planner only life has never been my lifestyle from the very beginning. So I won’t try to cram my whole life into one but do need to simplify my stash.

It reinforces my belief that we should not really stick stickers everywhere to look like we are doing something creative. The points you highlight are spot on - and how we get drawn in to purchase all the things. FOMO is real and I am working on smart buying. Great video! Loved hearing your planning backstory! ❤
    Personally, I don’t think it’s wasteful to buy planner covers … as long as you use them/keep them in the rotation. Then again, I’m the kind of completionist who wants to fill up her planners and notebooks, but who also needs some change regarding the physical appearance of her planners. Meaning: I switch in and out of planner covers as the seasons change or as my mood changes. The planner itself stays the same, but the cover change gives it a whole new look, which I enjoy.
    The only dated planners I bought for 2024 are Hobonichis and they’re what I’m intending to use in 2024 (or, in case of the Weeks, that I am already using). Stayed clear of Sterling Ink, Midori Hibino, and so on. Feel like I didn’t do too badly, even though I did buy some undated Tomoe River Paper planners and notebooks. But these don’t go bad; they’re just waiting for their time to come. Or at least that’s how I justify my purchases to myself 😂
