The Sports Reporters -- That was, by far IMO, the most intelligent sorts show I've ever seen. Dick Schaap and after that John Saunders, that show was a Sunday morning staple for me. Outstanding debates without anyone screaming their heads off at each other. They'll NEVER get a show like that back again sad to say.
The fact that the athletes can have their own podcasts and interview people has changed espn. They play days of our lives now with Stephen A and others. I miss the bread and butter late 90s-2010 lineup.

That has changed for everyone in media not just ESPN. I had broke down to watching shorts or clips to watch the subject I wanted to hear about when before we had to sit through that entire episode. ESPN, once the in air talent gets to big won’t pay them. They’ll pay on of them & let the others go & build a new one. It’s backfired after so long.

The chasm between TNT and ESPN re: NBA finals was so vast a restart could only help. ESPN was unwatchable pre/post game. However, the restart should start by getting rid of Greenie and Stephen A, not Van Gundy, Jalen etc.
What golden era? I watched ESPN for over 30 years and 90 percent of the dribble they put out can be repeated by ordinary sports fan. Dan was different. Started out in south florida being himself. Made it national and realized that it's all senseless and started his own thing and is now flourishing.
The NBA show that had Amin and Tmac, and Rachel was DA BEST...PERIOD. I used to watch it religiously. The replacement show...not so much. Yes, I watch it sometimes, but mainly here on youtube and just certain clips. The old show, had UA-cam tv recording it and watched most of them. Great show, great analysis. Amin 's front office experience brought a lot of insight.
My love for sports grew as a young boy and a teen through ESPN. I would watch ESPN at night, then rewatch the same episode on the rerun the following morning before school. It was on ESPN that I first saw Ken Griffey Jr and “The Big Hurt” Frank Thomas. I wore his number 35 for years. ESPN introduced me to perhaps my first love in life - SPORTS. The on-air talent personalities were known to me. They entertained while providing instruction and teaching about all things sports. They were my teachers. My coaches. Familiar faces and familiar voices. I watched and listened to ESPN programs for nearly 30 years. It’s not the same anymore. And it’s unfortunate.

The quality at ESPN has been going downhill for fifteen plus years, but people were still hooked on cable so the money each month kept coming in to ESPN. Then streaming and other ways to watch TV became popular and people started dumping cable TV, so ESPN's cash cow was cut off. That's what they are adjusting to. They don't have the money any more.
It's been almost ten years since I stopped watching ESPN and most American sports. I moved to Monterey in '15 and decided not to have a TV in the house, best decision ever. Disney needs to be liquidated.
I went from watching ESPN on TV to Clips on UA-cam to now purposely avoiding them altogether. Each change of viewership was a direct impact of them letting certain people go. I am big on loyalty and SVP, Levy, SUZY KOLBER, Rachel Nichols, former NBA Talent and far too many people who should be able to go on their own terms. Suzy been their almost my whole life. Are they telling me they don't need a veteran sideline reporter to help the atrocious new people they have had? Pat's show isn't even something that works on Disney. His show will automatically get worse since there won't be an element of freedom and cursing that will not fly on disney airwaves. There was a guy with the initials of DLB sometime ago that left with a similar format of friends talking and having fun about topics THEY felt passionate about and that didn't work in terms of the restriction of what can actually be said without repercussions from the top brass of the company. Disney Killed Marvel, murdered Star Wars, butchered their own classic animations and now slain ESPN. They decimated my childhood and that my friends, is a cold hard Clint Eastwood Unforgiven for me. Fuck the castle and the four letters.
I live in South Dakota. ESPN radio was silent this morning. I finally got into machine at my job where I can listen to ESPN radio in the mornings again. I was hoping to stay more up to date with my NFL takes during the season. Now, it's different.
Just want to chime in. I used to watch ESPN like all day. I've definitely stopped watching over the years, outside of NBA programing. And it's directly because of the people they fired or let walk. The Jump, J&J, His and Hers. These were my favorite shows. All gone.
As far as how this will help/hurt ESPN in the future, one thing that does NOT help ESPN is that, as of 07/01, they no longer broadcast anything related to the BIG 10 unless those BIG 10 teams play SEC or ACC teams.
@jaym2111 actually he's right. Because if you look at the alumni. Big 10 schools alumni and student body outweighs any other conference by count. Basically the school has more alumni per capita. SEC schools don't compare. That's why he's right.
As for College Gameday.. Are you really tuning in for the analysis or the loveable cartoonish old guy in Lee Corso putting on a helmet at the end of the show when they go to him and ask who's winning the Marquee Game of the Weekend?
No it's very sad. Corso was not well whatsoever yet GameDay was parading him out there. Where he couldn't even form sentences, say routine words, have any energy, or keep things straight. They should've protected Lee from himself. We know he wants to do it but it just makes you feel sad seeing him like that.

It's not like this is the first time ESPN has done a slew of layoffs. It's like the writers strike, just look back a few years, this is a repeating pattern and it'll happen again. Happens in every industry.

It's not like this is the first time ESPN has done a slew of layoffs. It's like the writers strike, just look back a few years, this is a repeating pattern and it'll happen again. Happens in every industry.

That's almost every show. Then they have someone say something stupid like "baker Mayfield will be mvp" or some garbage that everyone knows is crap. Then everyone argues about it with fake points and they move on to lebron vs Jordan. After that they bring out the top 10 list and repeat this whole process. Am I wrong?
