Akiko was such a great babysitter. I hope she will be able to have a baby of her own one day. Although it would be tough with a newborn and only one arm to hold on to things and the baby.
I miss seeing them with their older brother Riki. I've never seen an older male chimp like him be so loving in caring towards babies like that. Their mother Kazumi really trusted and relied on him to help her with job of trying to raise infant twins. Something that almost never happens in the wild, as one or both of the twins never seem to survive infancy. Now poor Riki is stuck with all males. What a shame.
Kalan has been practicing the fire drill, "drop and roll" if you ever catch on fire. Akiko got there real fast! Sweet girl.
My baby chimp, Jojo, learned to "stop, drop and roll" even faster --- the reason being that I actually set her on fire. It proved to be a costly lesson as she later expired as a result of the burns.

Holy cow! Kalan is a spunky little girl! She is into everything and what a little climber. It’s almost funny that a bee scared her that badly. Lol. Bless Akiko though because she got out there in a jiffy! Was that Ryu that was barking? If so, how sweet he was protecting his little girl by trying to warn off whatever scared her. Love this family!

It looks like the auntie might be pregnant. I hope not. It will be really difficult for her to handle a baby. But then again, Mother Nature has her ways.

She is really adventurous. Where’s her twin? She must be with mom... I guess Kaplan will be upset when she realizes mom is no where around her, especially since aunty can’t really assist her in getting back to mom. She was about to get someone hurt crying out like that. One chimp was still looking around and crying out in expectation of finding the one who hurt her.
It was a large insect. It ran off into one of the cracks in the wall. Kalan’s drop roll was an impressive Defense move!

It's not Akiko's job to watch the twins. She is crippled and far too old to be lugging Kalan's spoiled ass around the enclosure. It's Kazumi's job to watch after the twins and she needs to step back up to the plate! She is slacking way off on her job. Of course, these are chimps so just another day in the neighborhood. LOL!

Andrew Hassell not trying to be ride or act like I know everything about chimpanzees but it's the job of the whole family to help and watch out for any young chimps. The young are learning by watching their elders. That being said Kalan has some lungs in her to make such a loud scream. Great video👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💓💓💓
Wow! I'm new to this group, I had a feeling that chimp was way too old to be having babies! She is so patient! And with one arm, no less. Where was the mother? I agree, she looked overburdened, but she's doing her part to care for the young and SO WELL! My god, carry me, don't carry me, carry me, don't carry me. I'd go nuts....oh! I also noticed the baby was suckling. That threw me...does she produce milk? She looks really old. I gotta go through some more videos and try and figure it all out! 🤗😋🤔

Akiko always to the rescue. She and the twins have always been close which is why they do have a special relationship. She was always close by to help even when Kuzumi had both twins in her arms or on her back in those days. Akiko and Kuzumi have always been close too. For those that think Kuzumi was lacking in her motherly duties back then I'd say they need to watch more videos of her especially back during the twins being so young and even now with Yotsuba bc she is an amazing mother to all 4 of her "babies". Akiko has also always been an amazing Auntie with one arm or both she has never let it seem to hinder her or hold her back. Some human mothers and some humans with handicaps that are not debilitating could learn a few things by watching these two amazing chimps ♥️.
