Mannupugazh Kosalai by Padmashri Awardee Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. Aruna Sairam

I share with you a rendering of Mannu Pugazh Kosalai. The preceding viruttam 'Chintamaniye Amudame' is the 92nd Verse of 'Rama Piran Nootrandadi' composed by Vidvan Veeraraghavan, who was a school teacher.
Mannu Pugazh Kosalai Than was composed by Kulashekara Azhwar (also called Mudaliyandan Nambi), who was a prince of the Chera dynasty and one of the 12 Azhwars of the Bhakthi cult of Vaishnavism. The verses are addressed to Lord Rama (Lord Sauri Raja Perumal) of Thirukannapuram.
Each verse is in a different Raga and it goes as follows:
Ragam Durga
Mannu pugazh kosalai than mani vayiru vaaithavane ,
Thennilangai kon mudigal chinthuvithai SemPon cher,
Kanni nan maa mathil pudai choozh kana purathu en kan maniye,
Yennudaya innamudhe Raghavane Thaalelo
Ragam Paras
Kongu mali karum kuzhalaal kosalai than kula madalaai,
THangu perum pugazh janakan thiru marugaa Dasarathi,
Gangayilum theerathamali kanna purathu yen karu maniye,
Engal kulathu innamudhe Raghavane Thaalelo.
Ragam Saranga
Thamarai mel ayan avanai Padaithavane dayarathan than,
Maa madhalai Maithili than Manavalaa Vandinangal,
Kaamarangal isai padum, kanna purathu yen kan maniye,
Emaruvum silai valava, Raghavane Thaalelo.
Ragam Hindolam
Malayathanaal anai katti mathil ilangai azhithavane,
Alai kadalai kadainthu amararkku amudhu aruli cheithavane,
Kalai valavar thaam vaazum kana purathu yen kan maniye,
Silai valaivaa sevagane, Si Rama Thaalelo.
Ragam Neelambari
Devarayum asurarayum thisaikalayum padaithavane
Yaavarum vanthu adi vananga aranga nagar thuyindravane ,
Kaviri nal nadhi payum Kannapurathu yen karu maniye,
Ea vari ven chilai valavaa, Raghavane Thaalelo
*About Aruna Sairam*
Aruna Sairam (Padma Shri) is a Carnatic vocalist, composer, collaborator, humanitarian, and speaker. In addition to her performances in India, Aruna has taken Carnatic music to the global arena, at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. Currently Vice Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi, she was appointed in 2008 by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu as Advisor to the Department of Culture. Aruna works towards the musical education of underprivileged students, through the Nadayogam Trust, which she founded in 2011. Aruna is grateful for the training she received under her mother Rajalakshmi Sethuraman and the legendary T. Brinda, and the mentorship from several masters throughout her musical journey. Her music erased geographic borders when she was the first to incorporate Abhang, a Western Indian musical form, into a traditional, South Indian concert.
