Likelihood vs Probability

- In everyday life, we might act like Likelihood and Probability are the same, but in Statistics, Machine Learning and Data Science, they are two distinct concepts. This little song helps me keep them straight.

BAM! :)
@@statquest best comment ever 😘😂
Less than 30 seconds of video and I understood that in several classes I couldn't 😅
bam! :)
@@statquest What's wrong with our education system? Seriously... You explained in a few seconds what they take 1 hour of a lecture. I honestly feel like my ADHD is not a problem anymore when I watch your videos.
@@Pl15604 One of the reasons I started making videos to begin with is I wanted people to learn in their own way - fast or slow, short or long.
with these lyrics and song I'm never gonna misunderstand Likelihood and Probability
bam!
Finally understood! Thanks
bam! :)
I just found this channel a few weeks ago and this is gold. Extremely fascinating how in just 30s my perspective of how I think about it completely changed.
I'm glad you are enjoying it.
Song is getting better and better and better
:)
You are the best at explaining. We love your song videos. Triple BAM!!!
Thanks so much!!
It's a really creative and easy way to learn... provide more stuff like these on statistical inference topics
Thanks!
Cheer~~the state or fact of something's being likely--- probability.😊
:)
I'm saved because this guy teaches stats!
Bam! :)
Love it! Love your channel!
Thank you so much! :)
Beautifull
:)
Jim Morrison lives!
Haha! Good one. :)
That’s great - could you include an example interpreting this though ?
Sure, see: ua-cam.com/video/XepXtl9YKwc/v-deo.html
thank you😊
Thanks!
puff the most funny song ever!
:)
such a haunting melody. will def have me remembering the difference between these 2 though forever. lol
bam! :)
Brooooooooo you rock
Thanks!
Ngl This channel is like discovering diamond in Minecraft for the first time.
bam!
tbh i don’t this that i don’t know
Thanks for clarifying statlegend
bam!
So if we take an example of distribution of students marks, the likelihood can be used to tell likelyhood of specific marks number while probability can tell chances of getting the marks greater or less than selected number.
Am I right?
Yep
BAM!!!
:)
TRIPLE BAMMM!!!!
:)
I'm crying
bam!
Bam!
Yes!
നിങൾ കിടു ആണ് 🔥
:)
Imma take a guitar to sing this song on my next exam for my teacher 😂
bam!
Bam! 😂
:)
great song.....when will be the next video after seq2seq will be uploaded ?
Early access members will get my video on attention late next week.
BAM Squared BAM
:)
Wait a sec...never thought of it like this, but its just the instantaneous rate of change/derivative vs. The area under the curve/integral??
yep!
So, likelihood is the density function.
Area underneath is the probability.
yep
which apps did you use to draw plot? thanks
I do everything in keynote
Josh, you’re the best!
Thank you!
damn,so easy to understand😂
bam! :)
likelihood: PDF
Probability : CDF
please clear??????????????
As seen in this short video, a PDF can be used to calculate both likelihood and probability. A CDF, on the other hand, is generally only used for probability.
Great channel, except of the music.... Pleaaaaaseee don't do it
Noted
@@statquestdont listen to him
@@statquestit’s so random so it’s funny I dnt mind it
So likelihood= probability density?
I think it's probably better to think of likelihood as the y-axis coordinate of the density function because the word "density" refers to probability per unit length. See: www.probabilitycourse.com/chapter4/4_1_1_pdf.php
amazing song. thank you!!!
Thanks!
I don't think it is so simple or helpful. It is easy to find good descriptions what likelihood really means. It is about how well model parameter supportd observed sample. The area under the likelihood curve does not have to be one.
Noted.
You have a beautiful voice...you should also try singing..😃
