Great video. Just a suggestion: unlike international chess, in xiangi there is no stale mate. So once in a while would be nice to mention it and maybe provide an example.
Such a beautiful game, I always wanted to play but was never good at the chinese character. Im glad i discovered this site and it has the picture pieces so I can play easier.
I have a question about the palcorner horse checkmate around 5:34. When the horse moves to check the general initially, why doesn't the advisor in the center capture the horse to remove check?
Very interesting and informative. Why not just call the Two Devils knocking "Two Soldiers Knocking." That's easier to remember what pieces are involved too!
5:13 why can't the black general capture the horse? Well the house wasn't protected by any pieces so the black general can capture the horse to escape the check
Definitely very easy to understand and learn ! I play international chess so im not very familiar of xiang qi but this reminds me the time when i first started learning international chess :) . Thanks !
Thank you for making these, it helps make the game more accessible to new people like me
Glad to know!

Thanks for your question! It is because the advisor is pinned by the cannon.
@@XiangqiChineseChessoh man, I didn't even catch that! Thanks for the quick reply. Just got my first set, can't wait to start playing!

i play shogi and chess and this video makes me wanna learn xiangqi too 😭
Hi. thanks.
I appreciate yr effort in presenting yr video. Just like to comment it would be great if u change the symbol to chinese character. Tq
Thanks for the comment! We are presenting this video with graphical pieces because we want more non-Chinese people understand this game
Did you make the Part 2 video yet? :)
We are producing it 😉
great explanation, thanks
Glad you enjoy it!
5:13 why can't the black general capture the horse? Well the house wasn't protected by any pieces so the black general can capture the horse to escape the check
That is because unlike in chess, the general in xiangqi cannot move in diagonals, so it is not able to capture the red horse at that position
Horse in Xiangqi is pretty strong, but if Knight was in Xiangqi, they would be stronger
That means General is weaker than King
Definitely very easy to understand and learn ! I play international chess so im not very familiar of xiang qi but this reminds me the time when i first started learning international chess :) . Thanks !
Glad to know!
If the soldier keeps chasing the last turn will be the king and the king can kill hin
Wait, the King can't kill anyone? I though it could.
It can help other pieces to checkmate due to the flying general rule
It can, if the piece it wants to kill is undefended and in his reach.
I'm guessing you forgot that kings can't move diagonally like in international chess
can you show us a pro game?
Sure!
