- Today we look at how to get the most out of the QK65. We turn the soldered pcb, which offers the most layout support, into a hotswap pcb. We also hack away at the plate to produce more flex. This is the QK65 biggest flaw.
Case: QK65 black chroma
no silicone, no pe foam, no case foam, only plate foam
Plate: Alu half plate
Switches: Stock gat oil kings
Keycaps: GMK hammerhead dark
QK65 restock info: alkaline-sting-1d3.notion.sit...
This batch will offer a hot-swap ISO layout pcb. It wont have as many options as the pcb we modded in the video. You will be locked into ISO or ANSI with those pcb's, but its great to see them offer this for the ISO boys!

Been looking for a qk65 soldered video, thanks for this! Production quality is great and quite funny too.
Thanks man! I appreciate the love. Let me know if you got any questions, hopefully I can answer!
Bro that soothing voice and positive vibe you have going is contagious. Keep the positive energy flowing, the world needs more people like you.
Hahaha thank you. Soothing voice haven’t heard that one yet. I think the world needs more people like you! Made my day thank you 🙏 🤩🤩🤩🤩
You made me laugh way too many times in this review - loved it! I don't think I'll ever have the guts to do this to the QK65, but mad respect to you for trying these out. Subbed!
You sell yourself short. Wip out that saw and get to work! 🤣. Thanks for the kind words, makes all the work worth it when someone enjoys the video.
Amazing production quality!
Thank you so much. I appreciate you checking out the video!
I love your possitive energy, keep going!
I love your comments! lol thank you🙏🙏🙏
Yo this some really good keeb content. Keep it up 👍
“She does all the hard stuff” an anthem for the centuries
dig your energy man, subscribed!
Naaahh Naaah your energy tho!!! Thank you so much I appreciate you.
Great video btw! Could you link where you got the millmax sockets?
Best sounding keyboard by far!!! That Flex Boieee!!
I agree!
I was having a bad and rough day but this video, THIS ONE VIDEO out of hundreds I've watched today is the only one that made me laugh, and I can tell that the relationship between you and your wife seems super close just because of this video. Ty for existing xd
Wow. Thank you so much for the love and support. You made my day and I’m glad I could help bring a smile to your day! I hope this is the end of a bad day and the start to an amazing one. Much love! 🙏🙏🙏🥲😇
@@Akeynote Ty bro, I feel like you have good potential to be like Keybored but just more fun and more crazy mods cause this is the first time I've neverseen anyone try this mod out with ANY keyboard
That’s high praise! Keybored is killer one of my favorites.
@@Akeynote Amaxing thing to know that we like the same keyboard engineer :D I learned ALOT from his videos like more foam = clackier and stiffer = clackier and it helped me pick out and build keyboards way easier. Def will recommend you and him to other people since crazy mods = more funnn
Man that solder straight down the Mill-Max socket was rough. Great video
Hahah nice catch. Filming that was so annoying so I just used the shot. Definitely cleaned up the mill max socket after 🤣🤣🤣.
Great video bro! May i know what are the artisan keycaps used on your board?
Thanks for stopping by!
I wasn't expecting to laugh watching a keyboard vid but that was pretty funny
Wow thanks so much!I was trying to get some smiles out there glad you enjoyed!!! Much appreciated
Your production vs total subscriber count is criminally underrated. You definitely deserve more. I hope the UA-cam algorithm blesses you. On that note, great video. I was looking for UA-camrs to see if anyone posted a QK65 w/an ISO layout, because I got one, but w/hot swap & bluetooth (on the 2nd batch) teehee.
The only reason I got it though was to be able to utilize the 'typing mod' on a different keyboard layout, colemak-dh. I forgot, but I think I could still use ANSI if I want? I'll have to see, but this will also be my first custom keeb. I'm debating on whether to build it thocky, or silent-y, so I can bring it w/me to school. Decisions… Also, I've never seen that mod before, I may or may not try it. I'll see how the typing feels, but again, since this is my first board, I won't have anything to go off of.
Oh, & subscribed. Hopefully UA-cam see's that & blows you up now. Best of luck.
Yooo Anthony thanks for the kind words! I could be wrong but I don’t think you can use ANSI if you got the ISO hotswap pcb. If you plan to bring to school this board might be too loud lol. I definitely would skip any foams if this thing is gonna be in public. Your going to love it, I wish this was out when I started keyboards. Your truely spoiled my friend
@@Akeynote Yeah, you may be right about the ANSI. If not it's all good, the only thing I'll miss out on is those juicy designs for the 'enter' (since a lot of people don't make any for ISO). But really? I thought foam helps dampen or lessen the sound. I didn't know it gets rid of it if you don't add any, very interesting… hehe. I'll definitely experiment, but yeah, I am spoiled. I didn't learn about the keyboard scene till this year, & it seems like an overall consensus from keeb UA-camrs that the QK65 is a great board to start. You guys walked so we could run. Thank you for your sacrifice.
Beautiful build, planning on purchasing one myself this upcoming batch. Also, where did u buy the Kaws connector “thing” which is attached onto your coiled cable?
Gotta do it! Super good board. I don’t remember to be honest I think I might’ve got it as a present. I’m sure if you just look up kaws connector you can find it on Ali express or something.
Oh yup I just googled kaws cable protector and it showed up! Lol
you deserve more subs
Gotta earn em fair and square! Thank you for kind words and I appreciate you!!
Will you do the same for the Link65? :P
And where is your "pipe slash" key, uh? Nonetheless, thanks for the smiles!
Hahaha I think the link will just fall apart if I do. It’s iso layout so “pipe slash” moves next to “open eye winky eye” key ;)
Will the half plate work on the hotswap PCB? I've heard horror stories of half plate mods on hotswap boards
It’ll depend on the tolerance of the hotswap sockets and the switches. Theoretically it should work if you install the standoff’s. The standoffs should prevent the board from flexing too much. They are also in a spot that is untouched by sawing off the alphas.
What is the switch
what is the designer/name of that togepi artisan?
Enkey caps: dark eggo!
You can now use gasket socks that normally come with tiger80. Idk if they r sold separately, but they r useful
hold on, these switches are STOCK gat oil kings?
Yessir! I have not modded them in this video yet. In person they change only slightly, on camera you can’t even really tell the difference.
@@Akeynote pre-lubed?
Oh yeah! They are pre-lubed.
R2 has a hotswap ISO PCB
Sure does! I mention this in the description. The downside is You’ll be locked in iso layout with that pcb. With the solder version you can switch between ANSI and ISO.
@@Akeynote Fair point!. I have enough ANSI boards to live with a few perma ISO though I think.
@@kgury do it! it’s a great board. I think the same way, gotta have a few iso in the collection also!
and bluetooth. Chee hooo
How many leaf springs did u cut
top middle and bottom middle 👍🏽
@@Akeynote so the two on the top and the two on the bottom
Yup!
Do you have an Alu plate? IMO the plates may not need the leafs to be cut.
@@Akeynote no but i wanted more flex
ur cutting gear ofr plate?
Yup! I’m not the only one. There are more half plate videos popping up recently 🤘
@@Akeynote no i mean like can i have ur aluminum cutting gear links cuz i wanna see if i can cut my own plate too when my r2 arrives. and im kind of new to cutting aluminum so can u tell me like what materials i need and breifly how to do it/?
@@Stawexa ahhhhhhh. I used a dremel tool, That’s what it’s called, and a cutting disk rated for aluminum. You wouldnt need a dremel if you want to save a little bit. There are knock off rotary tools that work just fine.
@@Akeynote tenks man
@@Akeynote do i need anything to stabalize the plate while cutting or can i just hold it with my hands
peek the stussy tee 👀
You are a person of culture and taste lol
Boi what have you done
Hahaha. I don’t know, just tryna entertain y’all!
Wanna know how else you can get more than 65 keys on your keyboard....
🤔🥲🤣 curious for your reply. How? 🤩🤩🤩
buy a 75
Do you want to sell me this keyboard modded
I wouldn’t feel comfortable quoting you the cost because of how expensive mill max sockets are. But if your local to the Bay Area I’ll do it for free! Link to discord is on my banner on the channel Home Screen.
