    Maybe I have missed this, but I'm interested in the templates themselves, particularly for writing. Does it have small, medium and large spaced lines ? I haven't been able to see that from any reviewer.

      The template selection is generally pretty good. In terms of lines, it has a 22- line option, and a 14-line option. It also has a half line, half blank area option. It does not have a really tight line option, but it does allow for import of templates via the PNG format. Here's a link to something called "Mo's Ruled Line Template" where you can pretty much create what you want and format it in a way that the Viwoods device will accept. ruled-line-template.mos.app/ I found this on Reddit. I don't know much about the creator, but the tool is excellent.

    does it have a split screen option where you can take notes on one side while reading on the other?
    For annotation in pdfs does it have an option to highlight certain sections? Did the company get back to if they were improve the PDF capabilities?
    Following on from the previous message too, I'd love to see how it does with writing notes with formulas such as
    "Population variance = σ2 = Σ ( Xi - μ )2 / N"

      @jeffreymoss  Місяць тому

      It does not do split screen. You can hightlight in PDFs, but only with a marker. So you can't do a diagonal stroke to highlight the whole paragraph, you actually have to manually highlight it all.
      I wrote out the right side of the formula and here is what AI returned when analyzing it:
      "The content in the image represents an equation related to statistical analysis, specifically the formula for variance. The formula is displayed as:
      \[
      \sigma^2 = \frac{\Sigma (x_i - \mu)^2}{N}
      \]
      Here's a breakdown of the components:
      - **\(\sigma^2\)**: Represents the variance of a dataset. Variance measures how far a set of numbers is spread out from their average value (mean).
      - **\(\Sigma\)**: The summation symbol, indicating that you sum the values that follow it.
      - **\(x_i\)**: Represents individual data points in the dataset.
      - **\(\mu\)**: Represents the mean (average) of the dataset.
      - **\(N\)**: Represents the total number of data points in the dataset.
      ### Interpretation:
      The formula calculates the average of the squared differences between each data point and the mean. Variance is a crucial concept in statistics as it quantifies the degree of variation or dispersion in a set of values. A higher variance indicates that the data points are more spread out from the mean, while a lower variance implies that they are closer to the mean.
      Overall, this equation is fundamental for understanding variability in data analysis and statistics."

    I liked the idea, both models have potential. But I wish they were in partnership with a bigger, better known company. I'm still cautious with crowdfounding.

      Yeah, that's a reasonable concern. It looks good based on all the test models floating out there, but we won't know for sure until folks start to receive their devices on masse

    Can I read Kindle books and library books through Libby or Overdrive on it?

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  2 місяці тому

      Yes. I'm reading a Kindle book on it now. And it has Libby as an app as well, so you can read library books.

      @jeffreymoss I have a visual handicap. I need a big, bright screen, but I want e-ink to avoid eye strain. Right now, I read on a Kindle Scribe. How does the Viwoods screen compare to the Scribe's?

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  2 місяці тому

      @@DarthDaddy-cg6ro That is a tough question to answer. I have the Mini, and it sounds like you might be interested in the 10" version. Let me know if I am mistaken about that. But the reason why that creates a problem is because the 10" screen is different than the one I have (in part because it is flexible), and the larger device does not have front lighting.

    Have you tried using AI to translating handwritten mathematical formula's into text, Jeffrey? I'm not sure if e-readers in general have the capability to display math characters like the integral sign or powers, summation, etc.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  2 місяці тому

      I have now! I used the custom query function to have the AI convert text to a math formula. I then wrote a simple math formula in text [five times x plus three equals two] and it returned "\[ 5x + 3 = 2 \]". Not sure what the point of the slashes are, but otherwise not bad.

      @@jeffreymoss Thanks Jeffrey, actually it returned the results in LaTeX format, which is excellent! A person could take that, and compile it with a TeX/LaTeX compiler, and it would compile fine, and show the mathematical formula.
      I was more interested, though, if it will do as well with a handwritten equation, in particular, if the equation includes math symbols like the integral, powers (x squared), and the summation symbol. I'm hoping it will return the result in valid LaTeX format also.

      @@mitcheljh Just to make sure I get this right, can you write out what would appear on the notes that AI would be asked to translate? Give me a query and I'll see what AI does with it.
