2020 anyone? I remember the very first time I heard Tomasz's music. It was quite about 2006, when the video was uploaded. I was such a young guy... Now I'm over 30 and I appreciate his music like never before. It's jazz as it should be.
I saw them a year ago in Dublin. Amazing, wonderful, impossible to describe with words... Tomasza znam ze spacerów w Parku Sczytnickim we Wrocławiu :-)
Boring is not the word I’d associate with this. It’s sombre and mellow but not boring. This song really hits the spot if you’re in one of those introspective/dreamy moods.
To my taste, one of the most fabulous themes of Stancko...and the group, especially Marcin Wasilewski, with his incredible rhythmic sense on the piano...so beautiful...

Coś niesamowitego i absolutnie niepowtarzalnego. Mega, meeeeeeeeeeegaaaaaaa WYPAS!!!! :-)))))))))
On a certain level, a musician's influences can be of interest. So can whether he learned from records, a neighborhood teacher or at Berklee. But in the end, all that matters is how the music sounds and does it express human truth. This music does. And it sounds great. Thanks for posting.
Variation XII is from 'Soul of things' (2002). This one on YT is very best (and christmas & live :) version of 'Suspended Variation VI' from 'Suspended Night' (2004). Btw: I love this piece, always when i listen (any version), jazzically I have tears in my eyes..
absolutely love the bass player ... his sound wasn't fantastic in the beginning, then afterwards you could hear how lyrically he interpreted his solo ... they were all great, thanx!
it sounds like Eric Truffaz but not so sad, melancholic feeling.this is truly celebration of life with all joy and sorrow together..can anybody recommend any other Polish jazz musicans?know only Skalpel...
whoever says that this is predictable composition or the solos, and that it is not extraordinary amazing ....must be crazy.....this is one of the best jazz i have ever heard.....americans may just listen and learn from these guys!!!!
Great playing, but no excuse ending it (at 8:43), cutting him off before he finishes the last note, and before the audience applauds. Video needs at least another 10 seconds.
I am not sure but you might be right. No such track entitled "Little Thing Jesus" exists on "Suspended Night" (I can't imagine a different pressing exists in the US, say). Given the group's improvisatory bent, it's difficult saying which particular improvisation a live performance is or is based on
What do you mean? He's just not overplaying. It's intense in feeling and emotion. Besides, you can't seriously suggest that Herbie's style is the only valid one, or that he's the only influence on this guy.
hi there. I've tried to find this track . according to the information provided lines behind, has been released in the album "soul of things", but i've tried to listen this album and doesn't appear on the track list......does anybody knows where can i find this track??? i want to buy it. thanks in advance.......... thanks again. Chapeau Mr. Stanko!
I know you wrote it 11 years ago but maybe somebody will be looking for it too hahaha. The original track is on the album „suspended night”(it’s number 6)
@madero111 your entitled to your opinion, but i do agree it is relaxing. It isn't meant to make you feel on fire if thats what your trying to say haha. heavy metal will do the trick
Now that's more honest and well thought-out. The 'wannabe' thing rubbed me the wrong way; I don't think he wants to be anyone but himself. Really, I'd say your complaint stems from a more general trend in jazz: Everybody's starting to sound the same, with a few notable exceptions (eg. Meldhau). The tradition of learning from records engrains the same sounds into every player's mind, so everyone ends up with the same influences. Don't knock Stanko Quartet, knock the existing jazz pedagogy.
I did not suggest that. It looks like my comment got a -4. He is a good pianist; better in other recordings. I am a jazz pianist myself and must say again that his solo here is very commonplace. It is a boring and overdone vamp. If you guys wanna experience intensity in solo piano playing you should check Hancock, Jarrett, Corea and Brad Melhdau. I like Stanko Quartet in some occasions. Not on this one though

My dream is to go to Poland to hear Stanko. Maestro!
I did see him once, thankfully. How about you?

Descanse en paz Tomasz Stanko (1942-2018)

Stańko był absolutnym mistrzem świata!!!!
Fantastic! Beautiful phrasing, gorgeous melodies, and such a relaxed tempo! I've learned so much from this simple (yet complex) jazz statement.
Naturalnie, trio jest niezastąpione ;)
absolutely love the bass player ... his sound wasn't fantastic in the beginning, then afterwards you could hear how lyrically he interpreted his solo ... they were all great, thanx!

for me, Shtanko is the best and the newest voice of trumpet since Miles.
Żegnaj, Panie Tomaszu...
It's just beautiful yok ;)
Sensational.
so crazy good vibes thanks
Next February 20th (2008) in Lisbon. I will not loose.
The best By Far is the original 'Song For Sarah', track 1 of Suspended Night. Stanko's the Man.
whoever says that this is predictable composition or the solos, and that it is not extraordinary amazing ....must be crazy.....this is one of the best jazz i have ever heard.....americans may just listen and learn from these guys!!!!
Wow,good,.. sounds cool...
This is the gig is it not!? bravo Tom
I thought I recognised this track, but it's on the Supended Night release as Supended Variation IV. Either way, great track.
This is 'Suspended Variation VI' from Suspended Night CD
Polecam najnowszą płytę Pana Tomasza "Dark eyes" jest rewelacyjna a utwór so nice jest genialny...
"December Avenue" cudownie pożegnał się ze światem. Arcydzieło imo.
Great!
czytam wlasnie "Nine Dragons" Michaela Connelly gdzie glowny bohater dedektyw Harry Bosch slucha Stanki . Muza pasuje do ksiazki idealnie.
ssssssssaammee here mate
Great playing, but no excuse ending it (at 8:43), cutting him off before he finishes the last note, and before the audience applauds. Video needs at least another 10 seconds.
I agree, the ending is so important to be there. The song only ends after the silence that belongs to it
nice sound, tone.
discovered him while reading a michael connelly novel. WOW
mmmmmmmmeeeeeeee Toooo!!!
Exactly that's "suspended variation VI" from CD "suspended nigh"
sekcja rytmiczna stańki to marcin wasilewski (fortepian), sławomir kurkiewicz (kontrabas) i michał miśkiewicz (perkusja)
I believe it's easier to go to NYC to hear him.
12 grudzień - Lublin :)

We have a good example here of the so called Christmas carol jazz played by a group of aparatchiks. In Poland they call it: "granie do kotleta".
@MarcinLew True. Personally i would move to nyc for the jazz musicians that play there.
Superb

Bonjour je n'arrive pas à trouver cette musique sur l'album ?
@v1m he comes to US every once in the while

Z której płyty jest ten utwór? Bo nie jest napewno z "Soul Of Things". ????
@v1m He has a house in NYC, so you don't have to go to Poland :-D

jazz=natchnienie
przepraszam, ze sie tak wyraze ale w moich oczam masz, w bardzo szerokim znaczeniu tego pojecia -"bardzo zryty beret"
I don' see how the piano solo is incredibly intense. It is a Herbie Hancock "wannabe" kind of solo without herbie's vitality

like it.
piano terrible and bassiste genial.

This song is not a place for fireworks. Besides, it was the first song on that evening, they were still warming up here.
