Thanks for trying to clear this up, great title...but I'm not sure how helpful it was in clearing up the difference between good vs. bad UX... I can see why so many people are confused about what interface designers do.

I’m a little confused about whether the bottle was good or bad UX design. You described the use of the plastic top, shape of the neck, and the purpose of the marble….you seemed to enjoy the design of it and knew the history of the design…but then you spilled a few drops and said “bad UX.” Cool concept, but what was your expert conclusion?

My non expert conclusion is that it was a very good ux design at the time. Now it is outdated and used for marketing purposes, not good ux cause there are better ways to do the same thing (keeping co2 in bottle) BUT you give a cool experience to the customer.

6:38 I can't imagine my grandma or even mother opening this bottle. Also unnecessary amount of plastic that comes with just a bottle of water... The only good thing about this bottle is that it's made of glass.

I agree, a lot of the examples shown here are only valid in isolation, say focusing on reducing carbonation loss, or having a slightly improved information architecture gov site, or removing emotional stress when purchasing travel tickets, but if you look at all the sites or bottle as a whole, you can find flaws in it's design thinking.

This bottle design is still in India used in some places... The reason the bottle was such was that these bottles were/are filled on the go on some portable stall with a glass cylinder with them and a carbonating machine.. the way people drink this soda is by pouring it in glass and add some spice or salt with lemon juice, sugar syrup and flavouring/coloring agent to glass and then pouring the soda in glass... It wasn't meant to drink directly from bottle.. these are reusable soda bottle with no caps..
The brand that implemented it, did it wrong..... Kind of using a DSLR or mirrorless camera as action cam and then saying it's bad ux
    .😜

This really makes sense. The bottle is glass and it's reusable and it was mean to be filled on the go. So interesting. In such case this is a very good UX. Quite expensive probably but kind of fancy and it can be useful but only in India! But this is the beauty of different cultures and countries with different ideas and customs. It should never go away.

As someone who has used this bottle these are my thoughts…
Inclusivity and Accessibility: 3/10. it excludes people with motor difficulties
Satisfying to use: 10/10. fun for the “user” to open this drink
Ease of use: 2/10. It’s a new “ux pattern” that does not follow conventions that the user expects. Most bottles do not work in the same way. So there is a berries to entry… it has to be taught / learnt. However I think from memory that there is a step by step diagram on how to open it.

Say what you will about our (UK) government, the website is perfect 9/10. Only time I've had fault with it is inheritance tax which is a nightmare at the best of times.

Why not make the bottle with the ball already in it? No instructions needed, you don't put your dirty hands on the ball, and less waste.
Bottom line - the ball won't keep it carbonated anyway.
