Back in the 80's he set his mark on the christmas charts with his christmas themed songs. This song, We all stand together, The pipes of Peace, Once upon a long ago, all masterpieces who gave you such a beautiful christmasfeeling. I can’t understand anyone who would say this is a bad Christmas song. The synthesizer melody is so infectious, and the lyrics are so cheerful and nostalgic. I love it!
Because some people find the synthesizer and McCartney’s relentless cheeriness absolutely cheesy. I’m not one of those people though. What they all fail to understand is this song in many ways is as signature Paul McCartney as “We Can Work It Out” and “Silly Love Songs” and “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”.
John henri I agree with you entirely I remember the first time I heard it back in 1979 I liked it immediately I was in the second year(now called year 8) and aged 12 at the time. It entered the UK charts that year. Hearing the song brings back memories of those times.
Bro I was thinking the exact same thing. It’s so interesting. This is so cheerful and bright. John’s personality at the time much more deep, very involved in political aspects and a underlying message.
I hate this song due to how overplayed it is til this day. Probably the one Christmas song I hate the most due to how torturously repetitive the melody is.
As a child, the techy-simplicity of this song instantly appealed to me and has stayed with me ever since. It's difficult to imagine that this isn't the Christmas bonus at the end of the year (if you want to be cynical). But it's so unaffected that it's hard to feel that way. A standard of the genre.
This song randomly got stuck in my head the other day, I've been singing it since, note that it's the begging of summer. Christmas music is the only thing I miss about winter😂
I was born in 2001, and I can tell you that I was raised with this song like it had just been produced. Gives me the best Christmas feeling every time.
Have the lyrics ready for Xmas The moon is right The spirits up We're here tonight And that's enough Simply having a wonderful Christmastime Simply having a wonderful Christmastime The party's on The feelin's here That only comes This time of year Simply having a wonderful Christmastime Simply having a wonderful Christmastime The choir of children sing their song Ding dong, ding dong Ding dong, ding ooo Ooo ooo toot toot toot toot toot toot We're simply having a wonderful Christmastime Simply having a wonderful Christmastime The word is out About the town To lift a glass Ah don't look down Simply having a wonderful Christmastime The choir of children sing their song They practiced all year long Ding dong, ding dong Ding dong, ding dong Ding dong, ding dong, dong, dong, dong, dong The party's on The spirits up We're here tonight And that's enough Simply having a wonderful Christmastime We're simply having a wonderful Christmastime The moon is right The spirits up We're here tonight Oh and that's enough We're simply having a wonderful Christmastime Simply having a wonderful Christmastime Simply having a wonderful Christmastime Oh oh Christmastime
The very first time I heard this was Christmas of 2016, I was still a kid and was sleeping in one of my older sisters' rooms that night, she had a crappy plastic clock radio and this song came on and it was absolutely magical. I wasn't able to sleep, terrified of the dark in a space onesie but this song just made me forget, my eyes closed and as I was about half-asleep I started seeing dotted stars and whenever I woke up it was Christmas and *everything was okay.*
what a genius of a song, simple lyrics yet still has a psychedelic note to it. man this great. and hearing this during the great pandemic of 2020, is just right.
My dad made me a Christmas CD when I was about 3 or 4 years old, and this is the first song on it. This song signifies the beginning of Christmas to me. Probably my fave Christmas song 💗
Highly creative and original it is as well. I bet people dislike it because a) Xmas song, b) McCartney being tagged as the Beatle with ‘silly love songs’ and Rupert/Mary Had A Little Lamb/Mull Of Kintyre/Ebony And Ivory An easy target, unfortunately.
It's the hollowness of the instrumentation and the hilariously outdated synth sounds. I appreciate that Paul tried to experiment with new technology, but today I think it just sounds clumsy.
@@TheThomNorth thats why its different from the rest of the overplayed christmas songs..im more tired of listening to All I Want For Christmas than this bruh

To be honest, Sir Paul McCartney was one of the artist who could give you a Merry Christmas feeling in advance. Back in the 80's he set his mark on the christmas charts with his christmas themed songs. This song, We all stand together, The pipes of Peace, Once upon a long ago, all masterpieces who gave you such a beautiful christmasfeeling. As a young kid celebrating christmas with good christmas music was a must and fortunately, Sir Paul provided that.

One of the trippiest christmas songs I've ever heard. I like it.
I disliked the instrumental at first but it really grown on me, especially the guitar solo
John henri I agree with you entirely I remember the first time I heard it back in 1979 I liked it immediately I was in the second year(now called year 8) and aged 12 at the time.
