Hey man thanks for the info. I’m just starting to get into bait finesse down here in Texas. Curious which reel you’d prefer out of the box. KK Zephyr or DWU?
Np my man! The DWU would work best on an UL or L casting rod while the Zephyr would work best on an L or ML. That should help you decide which reel to get first! The UL side is a bit tougher for new folks as there's a lot more to learn such as bearings, line diameter and amount to spool on. But regardless which route to go, u first need to figure out the lure total weight range you want, select a rod, then the reel and line that will work best with the selected lures! Let me know if u have any more questions
@@rawrfishing Thanks! Well I’m a little ahead of the game. I bought a Zephyr and paired it with a 7ft ML shimano rod and plan to throw finesse tubes, whopper plopper 60, 1/4oz blades, and some smaller cranks. I have only used it twice so far. I want to get another setup and was trying to decide on the Zephyr or DWU. I love throwing underspins that are 3g or so fully rigged but I just don’t like casting spinning setups so I rarely do it.
I would say get the rod first! Then try the Zephyr on the light rod. 3 grams is doable with the Zephyr just fine and because it have a larger diameter spool, it will cast further. Maybe with full size ceramic hybrid bearings would get u the max distance. If that doesn't do for ya, then buy the DWU! I like the Tsurinoya Dragon C702L
I have been looking at some Tsurinoya options for something a bit faster bend than this rod as this have a moderate bend. Was looking at the legend, which was somewhat priced similarly... Check em out

Zephyr is a larger spool made for heavier lures. I say 2 grams and up. This out of the box can do 1.5 easily. No, neither come with any aftermarket ceramic hybrid bearings. I would use the dwu for UL BFS and zephyr for L and ML
Yes since the spool is larger and heavier. My dwu is stock, but I washed the bearings out of the thick grease and put in thin oil. So it's a bit better on casting start up, but a bit louder
hmm.. i think i wasn't really shooting for distance for this video as i knew where to target the crappies. but I feel that i can easily hit 70 to 80 ft with a 1/16th jig plus a 2-3 inch plastic with this smaller spool reel.

given that IM throwing stuff below 1.5 grams, yes it can throw weighted floats plus your lure. but u won't get distance as this is not the purpose of BFS reels. you are better off with spinning gears if u throw floats
Thanks for the response! I’m just getting into baitcasters and I’m hooked. Currently only use them for salmon and want to use them for trout too. Would like something for light and medium sized lures which I believe equates to 7 grams. Seems like baitcasters do better with heavier stuff and bfs does better with lighter stuff but nothing in between
All bfs reels should handle 7 g. The question is what line rod would best suit your fishing style and location. Likely a L rather than an UL would do. There are plenty of non bfs shallow spool casting reels that can possibly be a better choice if 7 gram is the lowest you are throwing. I am using the Daiwa alphas sv tw 800s for 5 grams and up.
