Shaq could be in MVP conversation during 2000-04 he could have his argument with Allen Iverson, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. But starting from 04 Shaq started to decline. Nash won MVP in 05 and 06. I agree. A very common criteria in MVP voting is rewarding the best player on the team with the highest record. Phoenix was smoking hot that year and dazzled everyone with their Run and Gun style of play, and Steve Nash was undoubtedly the engine of that train, not Amare or Marion. It's really as simple as that, forget the conspiracies, Nash deserved it.

There's a lot of revisionist history with Shaq. In Nash's second MVP year, Shaq wasn't remotely in the MVP race -- didn't finish in the top 10 in voting. If Nash didn't win it the second time, it would have gone to LeBron or Dirk ... Shaq wouldn't have gotten it anyway.

Nash's MVP seasons will always be underappreciated because people watching the NBA today didn't get to see how every single Phoenix match was led by his decisions, he was the entire engine that ran the Suns. To anyone saying he didn't deserve it i recommend watching the Nash's Suns vs Kidd's Nets game that NBA posted on their official channel, in it's entirety. Or watch the game where Nash killed Kobe's Lakers in the playoffs. He was one of the most deserving MVP's of the last 20 years, and i'd dare say, the second best point guard behind Curry. Sure, the numbers speak for Westbrook, but Nash was the more efficient, impactful in ways only the advanced stats can show you, sacrificing his own personal numbers for plays that he ran.
i always say this to make them understand..there were some games that SUNS were winning by 12 points and NASH would go to the bench and their GAP would go to just 2 points. HE got back and they would start scoring again. IN those 2 seasons NASH missed 11 games (counting a game that he got injured in the beggining of the game). IN 11 games they only won 2 games and 1 of them was by 1 point. A team that wins 62 games losses every game that NASH misses shows how important he was.
NASH is the best PG since 2000...better then CURRY ...CURRY just had a green light to shoot a lot in a TANKING ERA and SMALL BALL ERA. NASH nowdays with all this space and no BIGS waiting in the paint with 10 3 point attempts would dominate this league as well..
Bruh westbrick is the biggest statpadder in nba history, he might be top 10 all time for some but THERE IS NO WAY westbrick is better than Kidd, Nash and CP3, which were the best point guards of the last 20 years (in that precise order), with the exception of Curry of course.
Shaq lying about his stats again. He did not average 28 and 15, he was the second option to D. Wade in Miami, and in the next year he wasn't even in the MVP ballot lol.
The weird thing about the MVP award is that if you break each NBA season down year-by-year Nash deserved the two he did win..and I can only name one year I would give it to Shaq (2000). Shaq was obviously the better player career-wise, but it's one of those wild things where Nash caught lighting in a bottle twice.
Besides being an all-timer that pulled a best player-like regular season and carry on his team, revolutionizing and performing big-time type of NBA basketball. Even tore up the Playoffs, notably against Kobe (who wasn't a candidate, it wasn't just Shaq) and his Lakers in 2006, without Amar'e and his gunning 2005 Suns team iteration.
Shaq is a 4x time NBA Champion, 3x Finals MVP, 2000 League MVP, has been on countless All-NBA teams, All-Star Teams, and is regarded as one of the greatest centers and overall most dominant players ever. Can't Steve Nash have his MVP awards?!?!?!
That's the thing, he's the goat of pettiness. He was the reason Dwight Howard didn't make the top 75 list and he keeps crying about Jokic winning MVP every year. His ego is immeasurable and he's like those old heads that are jealous of successful young people

When Phil Jackson took the Lakers' coaching reigns in 1999, he challenged Shaq to win the MVP, which he did the eventual Season. But Jax told him he can win 10 in the NBA. Sure, his dominance in 2001 would one of reasons why the league allowed zone (with defensive 3-second violation). Why there's no repeat? He's entitled, full of himself, poor work ethic, selfish, bloated ego and weight. He even claimed when it mattered most, he makes FTs. So in regular season, he just fools around in falsely assumes every game is a dominant performance. He owes his MVP to Jax, while his undeserved rings to Jax, Pat Riley, Kobe, and DWade.
I never understood Shaq's rage behind this. He was averaging like 23/10, or something. Sure, Miami was better for having him, but Nash turned the Suns into an offensive juggernaut.

Yeah but that 06 mvp should’ve went to Lebron
i always say this to make them understand..there were some games that SUNS were winning by 12 points and NASH would go to the bench and their GAP would go to just 2 points.
I mean that 2016-2017 ok squad doesn’t even win 20 games if Westbrook without Westbrook he was the engine too
Bruh westbrick is the biggest statpadder in nba history, he might be top 10 all time for some but THERE IS NO WAY westbrick is better than Kidd, Nash and CP3, which were the best point guards of the last 20 years (in that precise order), with the exception of Curry of course.

Shaq was great in that first year of Miami but the voting for that 2005 MVP was way too close for what actually happened. The Suns literally went from 29 wins to winning 60+ games in the West with the addition of Nash and the Heat went from 44 wins to nearly 60. Keep in mind the Heat at that time had Wade and they were pretty close to the ECF the following year. The fact that only a handful of votes could've gave Shaq that MVP is just mind boggling.
It's because Most Offensive Player award doesn't exist and the debate over what "valuable" means will rage on
“Can’t make a free throw down the stretch.” You go Nash, Wade was more valuable on those teams anyway
