the lore of this is basically, in the british comic series, Sonic the Comic, Sonic was more of a ignorant, stubborn, jackass who made fun of Tails a lot, but he was usually STILL the hero besides the Super form,
however, in this universe, after realizing how his "friends" talked behind his back constantly, he took Robotnik's side, and after Tails realized what they both had to do, Tails, upset and afraid, took the anger and sadness inside, and used it as a tool to stop Robotnik and Sonic,
whilst Sonic didn't care.
He wasn't a hero anymore, in the end, it doesn't matter who is wrong,
or who is Right.

What makes this awesome is the fact that Sonic is the traitor instead of Tails,
This could be an AU where...
Sonic, the Hedgehog meets Tails the Fox in Sonic the Hedgehog 2....
Tails goes on adventures with Sonic, but Sonic begins realizing that Tails was slowing him down... and he grew impatient.
So one day, he teams up with Eggman, who was glad Sonic was working aside from him, being how powerful Sonic is and all.
Weeks pass, and Sonic and Eggman are together, planning a full elimination on Tails.
Tails realizes that Sonic is missing from the areas he usually travels at, so he goes out on an expedition in search of his best friend..
After a while, He assumes Eggman was responsible...
So, Tails builds the courage to venture to and through Eggmans Base.
He eventually makes it to this room... And this is when Sonic appeared.
"Ha! You *really* thought that Robotnik worked alone, huh?"
Sonic would say upon seeing Tails enter.
Eggman in the back offscreen went to enter the battle, but Sonic tells Eggman to leave it to him.
*This is where the song begins*
after a long song and battle, Sonic tries to spindash Tails into the river of lava below, but tails deflects him into the lava out of pure reflex.
"AGH! I HATE YOU MILES!!!!"
Tails sits and crys over the loss of his fallen hero, Wondering where he went wrong.
Sonic: forgot I had 3 lives huh miles?

so its less of he has to take care of tails and has purposefully pushed tails into harm's way just so he can be gone

As a reference to the comics and knowing Sonic's and Tails's bond, I believe that the brother line still works here, cause they both treated each other as such.

For the people who didn't get that reference, in Sonic the Comic, issue 103, tails wears a back to front cap and some shades and tries to act hip, and a page later. (I'm not kidding) Sonic called tails a pixel brain, which that Monday left tails broken.

i love the fact that tails sounds so desperate and sad from 1:37 - 1:49 , really amplifies the fact that tails feels betrayed by his very own hero...
another thing to mention is the climax from 2:10 - 2:25 , where it sounds like a final showdown as tails goes into fight or flight mode.

I think the reason sonic calls tails a pixel brain its because in sonic 2 tails is like a bomb magnet he would constantly bump into bombs which make it almost impossible to get the chaos emeralds
thats a nice idea, HOWEVER its a reference to Sonic The Comic (the comic where Fleetway Super Sonic comes from), where Sonic would call tails a "pixel-brain" and just being a jerk in general

I don't really see this happening, Sonic's whole personality is saving the world, being a kind and great person. And even in his darkest times, he was still on the right side. (Besides someone like Fleetway, that wasn't his fault). I could more likely see Knuckles getting manipulated by Eggman, and that is probably the only version that really makes senses for me.
tbf this is just a modified version of fleetway sonic where he just stopped being on their side due to him being annoyed by them and etc etc
if you've read the fleetway comics, trust me, hes as much of a douchebag as he is here, he just didn't side with robotnik in the official story, in this one its more of a AU where sonic DID due to how he saw his friends
