- Years of terrorism and civil war have forced millions of Syrians to flee their country. But with their home conflict far from over, why are so many refugees making life-threatening trips back to Syria?

In the quiet suburbs of Essen, Germany, 38-year-old Aboud awaits instruction from his European trafficker. "The most difficult moment of my life was on the boat with my children. I thought of what would happen if the boat would sink", says Aboud, recounting the perilous journey that brought him to Europe. But now he is contemplating the return trip, home to his mother who faces a worsening situation in Syria. Whether for lack of asylum, money, or families in danger, many of the thousands of refugees who flocked to Europe for safety are now forced to smuggle themselves home. Their illegal status makes any other means impossible. "I'll take these trousers and this sweater with me. That's it", says Aboud, packing light in his desperate bid to return home.

Here's somthing I pulled from an article Hassan Hassan, a Middle East security expert at the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy, wrote in the National on November 15 that ISIS is already beginning to redefine itself. The group is shifting from governing territory to quickly striking Iraqi towns and cities. The strategy, Hassan notes, is to begin “a war of attrition to deplete its enemy through a ceaseless and incessant campaign of terror and hit-and-run attacks.”

what I do not understand about Arab refugees is, why do they choose to go to Turkey and Europe? There are wealthy Arab countries to which they can flee, that share similar language and cultures. Which would make it much easier to assimilate. Why go to turkey which though it is a neighboring country is not Arab the language is very different and the culture is more different then to Syrians to the Jordanian culture. I don't understand why they choose to go north.

There a different type of refugees the majority want a job to live on their salary they want to be treated as German. many did go to muslim countries. there r refuggees in jordan and north african countries and all. but not many in saudi and its followers cuz they didn't allow them in. some refugees prefered going to germany because it is easier to find a job. if u take algeria for example, it has many refugees from syria, palestine, and mali. algerians r already facing a hard time finding a job, and now it is shared with refugees. he latters r aware of that so they decide to go to a wealthier country and have a job that doesn't require language skills like working in factories and farms. anyway, they r going back to their countries now though, and they r grateful for all of ur help. plz don't ruin that by being rude. the comment section is kinda toxic.

In Europe there is great social unrest, I'd go so far as saying a great malaise, the rise in far-right parties, all symptoms of mass uncontrolled immigration flowing into Europe. Angela Merkle has a lot to answer for, opening the doors not only to citizens of European member countries but the world over. The great majority of those immigrants are economic immigrants and not refugees fleeing worn-torn countries and which also creates controversy is that once again the great majority of these economic migrants are young men, more often than not uneducated, unskilled, not by their own fault but by the lack of opportunity for formal education in their own countries. Europe is being swamped by followers of Islam who by all accounts have no intention of integrating, just happy to be in Europe, taking a lot but not giving much back. You're not going to tell me that those Muslim women wearing the niqab or the burqa are trying their best to fit in. All we hear today, is that it is us Europeans who must bow to Islam if not we are racists, bigots and xenophobes. I think Hungary has made the right decisions: yes to refugees, no to economic migrants save those who wish to enter legally and come through the front door with the necessary papers.

@@donjon6244 do some research. The Children's Crusade was a largely mythic event. There is no record of it in Arab sources -- no sudden surge of slaves in their slave markets. The myth was started by Europeans who were trying to discourage that sort of behavior.
