- In a standard Avery Ranch backyard, Lisa LaPaso and Cavin Weber pack in a cornucopia of delicious scents, food, and colors. Although rich in diversity, it’s miserly on water. Fruit trees shade a garden filled with raspberries, blackberries, grapes and vegetables. A pond and perennial fragrant flowers and herbs attract countless pollinators and birds, including hummingbirds. Designed for outdoor living, Lisa splashes color into every cozy bench and nook, inspired by her mother, Carol Maize. Her father, Jim LaPaso added colorful kinetic sculptures.

This garden is exquisite! I live in the Bay Area of California where gardening is relatively easy, but have never seen such a gorgeous garden in Texas (my home state). I’m returning to Austin in a few years and am happy to see what can be done there!

I didn’t do the editing, but I did design, plant and care for the entire garden and my husband was here for support. That’s why they say “Lisa’s” garden, over and over. My beautiful husband was there for support, but I am sorry you couldn’t hear him talk more about my hard work.
Wow, what a beauty garden. I have clay soil how did you amend your soil. I live in 9B zone in California. And each winter I get so much 0xalis so hard to get rid of it. We don’t you weed chemical I want the birds and wild life.

teacatz3 that is such a great point. This was a real life budget with two growing boys and very typical incomes for here in Austin. This took 6 years to complete in stages and this was featured in its 9th year.

I didn’t do the editing. I did however design and plant every single plant in this landscape as well as hand water, and care for it almost independently for 9 years. My husband helped compost, mulch and built the ponds. Sorry you couldn’t hear him talk more about me. 😊

I have definitely been busy. Designing and planting nearly every single plant in this space, completing my education, running my own business and raising two boys with Autism while my husband traveled for work definitely kept me busy. 😊

Thank you for your kind words. I didn’t do the editing but I did design and plant the entire garden as well as maintain and hand water it for 9 years. When my honey designs a garden and plants it by himself I’ll bet they will come back and I will shut up.
