I have three security doors to my house, before mounting the doors I had rebuilt the door frames with solid wood mounted into the block walls of the house, then I mounted the three steel entry 6 panel doors and ensured they had a weather proof fit. I bought 3 identical looking security doors from Lowe's Home Improvement, they have 2 inch perimeter rails on the doors. The support bars came with 3 holes and non-reversible screws, I drilled three more holes and installed 3 additional non-reversible screws. These screws are secured into the solid door frames with no shims or gaps. After this the two unseen doors, (back and garage) had double key deadbolt locks installed so even if the steel screening is cut they can not open the doors without the key. I shop regularly at Home Depot and a cashier introduced me to a new locking hasp. The arm swings over the locking pin, this pin rotates to lock the arm in place, then a key is used to lock the rotating pin in place. I used carriage bolts thru the security door frame, then 3 inch screws to mount the lock base to the solid frame into the surrounding stud. Keep in mind the security doors protect the steel 6 panel entry doors. For additional security I mounted 3 pins into the security door frames so if the hinges are defeated the door will not open. Roll down shutters protect the windows and I built a steel locking cage for the power panel. The walls of the house are 16 x 8 x 4 concrete block, my assumption is they would have to come in via the roof. Then they are greeted with a Springfield .45 ACP if they succeed! The garage door I am currently building will have a switched receptacle for the door opener so it can be completely shut off at night or whenever. The tracks of the door will have two holes, one each side drilled so a bolt and wing nut can be applied so the door can not be pried up. The door from the garage to the laundry room is one of the three previously mentioned. The Air Conditioner is in a closed storage, tool area with a security door and block walls. This also is where the two bathroom windows are, they have a heavy duty screen mounted in the name of CrimSafe, these are baseball bat proof. My next feature will be 4 security cameras to see along each wall of the house. I can open the steel front door if anyone rings the door bell, but the security door remains locked thus a home invasion can not happen!

What would you recommend I do if I centered my security door with the main door opening, BUT there is nothing behind the 1x4 trim molding to secure the security door to? I believe the contractor used shims between the 2x4s and the main door trim leaving a big enough gap so that when I drill for the security door, I hit that gap where they used shims for the main door.... any thoughts?

    Excellent, informative video.
I have a question. I need to remove an existing security screen door and replace it. However, the one way bolts holding it to the door frame look very difficult to remove. Any suggestions on how to do this?
    Thanks!

Please do your research when buying a good security door. The door might look like it is a good door but anyone who knows what to look for, can see a huge problem with the door that is in this video. The door frame goes on with one way lag bolts but the door can be easily taken down by unscrewing the tiny screws that are used for the hinges which would take someone with a simple screw driver maybe a minute. The hinges to good security doors are always welded on the door or if it does use screws, they are on the crack of the door.

      Hi Chris,
Thanks for checking out our video. We use security H-hinges to mount our signature security screen doors which have a welded hinge pin that cannot be removed. We install these security H-hinges to the door and to the frame using security one-way screws in the center two holes of the hinge. Utilizing security one-way screws assures that nobody can unbolt their way through the door as you are suggesting. An additional security measure lies behind the security H-hinges with vault pins. Let's say somebody took a grinder and cut off the hinges --(this is what somebody would have to do to get the hinges off of the door once they are installed). As long as the deadbolt is in the locked position, the vault pins will keep the door securely within the frame without the hinges attached to the door. That's real security!
We do offer an entire line up of exclusive security screen doors that utilize welded hinges among many other upgrades if you prefer. Check out our entire line up of DIY security screen door at: www.firstimpressionsecuritydoors.com/product-category/diy-security-doors/.

FrustratedBaboon I' worked for fisd. .I can tell you that the vault pins are enough to stop the door from being simply taken off . it's 2 hole maby 3\8 or so in the door on the hinges side with pins hard mounted in to the outside frame. thay simply slide inside upon close. so even if you get past the one ways you still can't pull the door as long as it's locked there actually really nice doors .any screen door can be breached but the noise and time would be enough to say to risky now iron entrance...that's a different story

Chris P or put the hinges on the inside of the house?

Pins can also be installed where the door shuts over the pins, usually the gap is small enough to prevent cutting tools from getting to the pins. I installed one pin for each of the three welded hinges. Very important to not make the pins too long, or the door will not close.

What is the purpose of the one way screws since the hinges use standard hex bolts?
