  • One of my favorite releases from The Paupers catalogue, a double-sided original co-written by Guitarist/Vocalist Bill Marion [Misener] and Drummer/Vocalist Skip Prokop. This early single was their third recorded in the first half of 1965, ultimately released in August.
After the success of their debut and sophomore singles on Red Leaf Records (both co-written by Guitarist/Vocalist Bill Marion [Misener] and Drummer/Vocalist Skip Prokop), they signed with Duff Roman's Roman Records. Here, they released two more singles (again both written by the songwriting team of Marion and Prokop), which would turn up on Roman Records 'Somethin' Else' compilation in 1966, alongside David Clayton Thomas and The Shays, another pair of highly popular Toronto artists.
This slideshow features multiple photos from Skip Prokop's estate.
Check out Jaimie Vernon's book 'Sunny Days: The Skip Prokop Story' for an in-depth overview of the short-lived, yet highly influential rise and fall of Toronto's 'Paupers' as well as Skip Prokop's further session journeys and time with landmark Canadian horn-rock band 'Lighthouse'. My sister was married to Chuck Beale for a short while, a zillion years ago. She was heavily pregnant with another man’s baby, when they wed. But Chuck loved Marina and wanted her baby to have a last name. Thus, my niece, Monica Beale. The marriage didn’t last, but I’ll always remember Chuck so very, very fondly.

Thanks for sharing this story. I'd love to chat with Chuck about his time with The Paupers and Jericho.

@@Canadian_Cult_Classics Hi, honey. It’s late and I’m stoned and I’m going to share another little tidbit of personal info. I lost my virginity to Adam Mitchell when I was 15 years old. I was totally the instigator. Like I said, it’s late and I’m ZZZZZZZZZ

What I wouldn’t give to travel back and see them live, they’re one of my favourite groups and one of the catalysts that got me into Canadian music preservation.

Gave me The Animals/Steppenwolf vibes with a touch of The Doors
