I'm very much a perfectionist on my hides. This is the only fleshing video I've personally seen on UA-cam that the fur worker actually knows what he is doing.
This a way and that a way. Got it. Thanks Stu! I put up a dozen or so various things this year from some successful nights calling. Your videos are second-to-none. Couldn’t have done it without you.
Man you make it look easy. Fleshing was always the hardest part for me, but luckily my uncle Alvin was really good at it and enjoyed putting up fur so I'd take my skinned fur to him and he would finish it. Then I'd share my check with him when we sold them. Too bad the fur prices have dropped so much that not many guys trap anymore including myself. Great video!
Bro- as a first season trapper I have yet to get em as clean as you do as fast in your vids- excellent tutorials and I keep comin back, each time i do i pick up something new. Great stuff! Lovin the channel!
Appreciate your approach to musicisbrilliant. This is part of my homesteading education (city boy just plain done with the city) and it is really nice to find a real professional sharing his expertise in a really expert way from camera work/placement to ability to communicate effectively/smoothly, beginning middle and end presentations on your videos. So NOT a headache watching this. Thanks for sharing.
You keep mentioning that you are not going fast, and you still could flesh at least 3 to my one! LOL! I keep practicing, and messing up a few, but out of the last six, I had two that could actually boarded. I'm saving the cut up one for tanning experiments. Thanks for all the work you put into these videos!
just a thought while I was watching and you mentioned speed.. you could show off sometime and do one at regular speed so we can see how fast is possible, probably for the skinning too, would be fun to see
I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you'll answer... can you tell me how you wash your hides? I realize it's in the washing machine but do you use detergent? Drying... with heat?
How long did it take you to perfect the angles of that knife without screwing up the hide? You make it look way easy, same with your beaver. I’m new to this, done 1 beaver and 4 coons and using my fleshing blade is nowhere near as easy you’re making it look!!!!!
Question for you? So I have put up a few raccoons now, and I heared you say that you keep the fur in the fridge until you flesh them. So, I tried it...kept ripping holes in the hide due to the hardness of the fat (I believe). You make it look so easy, but what can I try so that I am not ripping or cutting holes in the hide?
Really good demo!....I wish I could do them that fast, I going to try to build a new beam soon. If you got any tips, feel free to share :) Have a good one!
The only advise I can give is watch my videos, thats all you need to know. HAHA. all kidding aside the little advise I could give would be. get a fleshing knife and beam that match, make sure you have a comfortable setup, and after doing a couple thousand you can finally get a rhythm and routine. speed isn't everything a good presentation is worth alot more.
awesome Vid. I must be the only one who fleshes standing in front of the hide and fleshing (pulling) down instead of standing in back and pushing down LOL
Just got a necker this year, and I cut 4 holes with the dull side. What the heck am I doing wrong? I've built a beam stand at a 55 degree angle like yours. Thanks.
I have a question how thin should the flesh be because i fleshed my first one yesterday and it did have that pearly white look to it i could see were the hairs were attached is that too thin?
That video rocks. You should make a video of how you built the PVC part. It would be the only one on youtube and I believe many people would be interested in it.
great info for a beginner like me........question-byproducts.....where you're at, what do you do with your carcasses? you surely dont feed em all to your dogs 😏
This is the same question in my mind. If you've already combed it for burrs and such for fleshing, why not wash it after fleshing to remove anything that may have gotten onto the fur during fleshing. But then the question is how to dry it before boarding?
I wash before fleshing rather than after because, I want him to be as dry as possible before he goes on the board. If boarded wet there is a good chance of the hair slipping.
I'm very much a perfectionist on my hides. This is the only fleshing video I've personally seen on UA-cam that the fur worker actually knows what he is doing.
I know right
My mom walked in on me fleshing my raccoon and she took away the internet for a week!
🤣😂🤣
My kids walked in on me fleshing my racoon (road kill I had taken home) and asked who will get the first fur cap.
Better than gettin caught fleshing your weasel 😅
😂😂😂😂
😂
Thanks for this series, I've had the worst year with raccoons killing my chickens, when i get some dog proof traps it's war!
As a pretty new trapper up here in canada I find myself coming back again and again to your videos. You're a great teacher. Thanks

I appreciate the work you put into these videos. My son and I are learning to trap and are excited to do this process. Thank you!
These skinning process videos are very educational and I like them! But damn that is washing machine scary XD
I realize the video is quite old but I must say, you sir are the Bob Ross of your trade!
Brings back so many memories to an old man. Miss those days but at the same time I like being inside the warmth of my home.
Did you used to trap?
Jp Guidry yes, as a younger person, when prices were pretty good, I always enjoyed the extra money during the winter months.
Wholesome
Excellent tutorial - thanks!
Fantastic demo! Thanks!

+Sid Vicious thanks
Very professionally done. You explain things really well for all to understand and learn. Great video and many thanks.
This is really detailed and informative for beginners awesome video thanks
You make it look so easy!
Nice instructional video. You make it look too easy.
Thanks
thanks
Thanks for doing this. I'm new to fur harvesting and this is very helpful.
Where did you get your clamping system that's on the ground in that video?!?
Raccoon is the equivalent of barbecue ribs.

Jeffrich308 practice, practice. the first thousand are the hard ones. this is my real time.
ua-cam.com/video/UuMxm2r4JzA/v-deo.html
Does the red membrane need to come off cause I usually can't get it off
Great job and tips!
just a thought while I was watching and you mentioned speed.. you could show off sometime and do one at regular speed so we can see how fast is possible, probably for the skinning too, would be fun to see
I don’t know where you are from but I’d love to work under you and learn to do it as well as you. It’s fantastic
You make it look so easy awesome vid
thanks
Do you use detergent when washing the raw fur? If so what detergent?
Your videos taught our family to skin!
How do you file or stone the scraping edge of your knife? Do you keep a 90 degree edge on it?
Awesome video THANK YOU!!
I've seen a top load and front load washer on your videos. Which do you prefer?
Do you put anything in the wash water or just plain water?
How wide of a board do you use to stretch it?
Pretty cool stuff.
Another fine video. Thanks!
thank you sir.
You should put a Fleshing starter kit together and put that up for sale :)
What sort of soap do you use for your initial wash?
Best one I've seen so far
Paul Knight thanks
I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you'll answer... can you tell me how you wash your hides? I realize it's in the washing machine but do you use detergent? Drying... with heat?
I like the vice grip idea but it leaves marks on the hide. Do you put something on the gripping part of the vice grip to protect the hide?
+Michael Roskos the marks will go away as the pelt drys
Where would be a good place to look for 10” - 12” PVC for a fleshing board?
Do you stew or fry the skin/meat after you scrape it?
Question about the use of the vise grips. Where/how do you clamp the pelt? Do you clamp the pelt to the beam? Kinda hard telling in the video.
I pinch the pelt with the vise grips so it doesn't slide down the beam. I'll try to get a video up better explaining it.
Where do you put the clamp to hold it in place?
How long did it take you to perfect the angles of that knife without screwing up the hide? You make it look way easy, same with your beaver. I’m new to this, done 1 beaver and 4 coons and using my fleshing blade is nowhere near as easy you’re making it look!!!!!

Adjust yer angle, and/or go a little bit slower while you memorize the motions. It comes with practice! You'll get there!
What kind of knife/sword does he use to scrape the fat off?
Do you wash in hot, warm, or cold water?
Really good demo!....I wish I could do them that fast, I going to try to build a new beam soon. If you got any tips, feel free to share :) Have a good one!

Nice video good expected
What kind of knife is that and where could I find one?
Outstanding☝
Great video thanks
do you just use water from your water heater setup or do you put something in with the water? as usual, great video and keep em coming!
yes all I use for everything is just straight water.
What are the washing machine settings?
Where did you get your Fleashing beam board
Where is the best place to get a fleshing beam?
Great video! Just wondering, what brand of fleshing knife do you use?
Dan Warn thnaks. in that video I'm using a necker. my current knife is a post
What did you call that knife?
how do you know if you are fleshing to deep
What’s knives you use?
awesome Vid. I must be the only one who fleshes standing in front of the hide and fleshing (pulling) down instead of standing in back and pushing down LOL
Lee Watson nope i do that to but ill do it both ways whatever works best for me
How long do u dry it for? Ish..
how much will I get docked on price if there's still a little fat on it? is there much leeway?
If it do this I'm gonna get some mighty funny looks at the local laundromat
When you refrigerate your hides after skinning the day before fleshing do you have the fur in or fur out in refrigerator. Thank you
¹
Just got a necker this year, and I cut 4 holes with the dull side. What the heck am I doing wrong? I've built a beam stand at a 55 degree angle like yours. Thanks.
That angle may not work for you. You need to make sure the knife is flat against the board not at an angle.
What kind of clamp do you use? Looks like some kind of welding clamp or vise grip with teeth? Peace, Reese
Mo Pieces check out his "my skinning machine" video
The hair of the coon is sticking through the skin size what can I do
When using the sharp side of the Necker knife, how sharp do you hone that? I have a new Necker, and the sharp side is pretty gull.
you have to get a knife sharpener sharp her up and then you should be good they all come pretty dull
Washing. What goes in with the coon? Detergent, Dawn, just water??
so what is asking worth finished ? and the meat ? sell it ?
Can you add tanning solution instead of just boarding it ?
What do you mean by slippage?
I have a question how thin should the flesh be because i fleshed my first one yesterday and it did have that pearly white look to it i could see were the hairs were attached is that too thin?
Yeah
Link to the knife used would be great!
did you make your pvc fleshing beam and if so how? like what size of pvc pipe and design

Weirdly satisfying
What angle do you hold your knife? i have a hard time getting to where i can push the fat.
+Dirk McWhorter just keep practicing the first thousand are the hard ones. good luck
Could you tell us what brand your fleshing knife is and where you got it, please. I'm having the hardest time finding one.
I'm pretty sure his blue one is a wiebe. fntpost.com have them in their fur handling section. Hope this helps.
He answers same question some comments up. This is a necker . His current one a post
I cannot flesh a pelt without putting a hole in it somewhere. It is frustrating
What's the name of that tool?
Can you use a razor for shaving to get the fat off?
Allen Shaw what do you do with all the meat
Mink fur handling?
Nice job.
thanks
That was so satisfying lol
Just set out some traps baited with salmon so I hope i need this video tomorrow
You have some great videos. Did you build your PVC beam?
yeah, I have a video up on it if you'd like to check it out.
That video rocks. You should make a video of how you built the PVC part. It would be the only one on youtube and I believe many people would be interested in it.
WOW interesting.
great info for a beginner like me........question-byproducts.....where you're at, what do you do with your carcasses? you surely dont feed em all to your dogs 😏
Kelly Kaplan
‘tis a edible feed though
You have a ton of pelts. Can I purchase some Coyotes for my sons? Please let me know prices for the skins.
Can you do a video of sharpening your fleshing knife?
What do you use in the washing machine as far as detergent? How long In the dryer?
Just a rinse cycle with only water.
Why don't you wash the hide after fleshing instead of before?
This is the same question in my mind. If you've already combed it for burrs and such for fleshing, why not wash it after fleshing to remove anything that may have gotten onto the fur during fleshing. But then the question is how to dry it before boarding?
Does the fur need to be fur out to wash or can it be fur in
Fur out
is there any reason as to why you wash pre fleshing?
I wash before fleshing rather than after because, I want him to be as dry as possible before he goes on the board. If boarded wet there is a good chance of the hair slipping.
Could you, or anyone in comments give me a list of needed skinning tools?
How do you handle the flees?
Mad Anthony raid
