      Yes she does! But she is loving every minute of it. Even most of her homeschool work is geared around goats now….math problems with goats as the subject, biology/science is all around goats/anatomy/reproductive function, etc,. Reading and writing is all goat related😂. But it’s been fun!

    Marley is already a pro at milking Bell 🥛The mini nubian choice is excellent. In a few years you will have so much milk. I can see Marley and mom making feta cheese, and goat soap projects! Joe the goat barn is beautiful, the entire gated play area toys and all are very inspirational 🙌 Love it!

    I've got to say, your daughter presentation about HER goats was very impressive. I know you & your wife must be so proud.
    Moving on, I had to reroof my little cabin after hurricane Zeta blew through couple years ago. We pulled out all the pink insulation & put the 1/2" foam between the rafters & the metal roof & I could feel an immediate difference, even had to turn off the A/C a couple nights, which has never happened. The cabin is in southern Alabama, 80 miles from the coast & I normally run it 24/7 when I'm there. I'm pondering on trying your "safari roof", but afraid it would become a wasp condo. Love your channel, found it looking for plans for a plant pit & found your in-ground greenhouse, still waiting for updates on that, hint hint. Thanks for the entertainment & sharing your vision(s), skills, etc. Cheers

      Well thank you so much David! We are so proud of her😊
      As for your cabin in AL. Sounds like a great place. I think the safari roof might help but it sounds like your 1/2 rigid foam did a great job as well.
      As for the greenhouse. Oh man, I get so many questions on it and just keep putting off update videos as I like to show progress…. And I haven’t gotten to doing the gabion retaining wall that I have planned for so long🤦‍♂️. Right now it’s just a hot box. But come this fall it’ll be back in full usage. Stay tuned as I will definitely be doing some more vids on it as my wife has started to remind me as well😉👍

    Really happy to see the new additions. Watching the kids leaping around sure remind me of Marley jumping from rock to rock when you were out camping. It is easy to see why she likes goats. Did you folks like goat milk before you got them? This is going to be a great project and she is also becoming quite the on-air talent. Watch out dad, she is coming for your job. Thanks for sharing and always love videos that have the whole family.

      @homesteadonomics  2 роки тому +1

      Oh my gosh that’s one of our favorite camp spots! Back then she was all into the ‘parkour’ thing….. but now it’ll be jumping “like the goats” on rocks😂
      As for the milk. My wife and and daughter had tried goat milk but I never had until now. And I’m not much of a milk drinker to begin with…. More interested in doing cheese or soap, etc,. BUT I have to say they Belle’s milk is really good! I was surprised! Tasted very mild, almost simlar to cows milk. So I’m not sure why people will say it has a taste. But then again they are eating mostly alfalfa and not weeds. So I’d guess once we start getting them out and letting them eat tiger stuff it’ll change the flavor a bit.

Them dogs stay w/the heard & will fight to the death to protect whatever kind of heard you have. Even your chickens. You might think about that Joe. It would watch things while your not there like camping trips that last longer then 2 days. Would be nice to know the animals would be safe when your away or @ night while you sleep.

      First thing we do is to double strain it through coffee filters. Then we throw it in the freezer which stops any bacterial replication. Then at that point it’s drinkable just as is. But we are also experimenting with pasteurizing some before freezing it for future use. So far the taste from the raw and pasteurized is almost unnoticeable. So if we are using it within the first day or two. We have just been using it raw. But if we are freezing for longer term storage, my wife is pasteurizing before hand.

    Marley went from the awkward kid in front of a video camera to a veritable creator within a year or so. Dad being a great example will give her the option to become quite an influence to deal with.
    Wish I'd had that example to grow from mate. You've done well.

    Your daughter should make some goat cheese! Which I really like that. Creamy or hard. Your daughter could get into a business for goat cheese. Very intelligent daughter.

      Thank you Robert! We were just talking about what we could make with the milk for both us as well as for Marley to sell. She already does eggs for the neighbors but I think the goat cheese and or other products would be great for her to make a bit of extra money as well as for the learning and growth experience!

    Are you going to add rain catchment on the goat shed? The drive-in looks great.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  2 роки тому

      Oh yes! I was thinking about that just last night. I’m gonna build a roofed structure to store the hay under and I figure I’ll tie that and the goat barn into an IBC tote water harvesting system….. that’ll feed a water trough for the goats.

    Here in the Philippines I see so many goats. I always see them on rocks and other obstacles above the ground. I wonder why? Is it because they originate in the mountains? Edit. I researched this a bit and found lots of info. Very interesting species! I just love how they jump around.

    Money can't buy you happiness but it can buy a goat which is pretty much the same thing!
    Don't know how accurate it is but I have heard that alfalfa is too rich for goats so you might want to look that up just to be safe.
