One thing you notice about these comments is that there is not one bad word said about the man. Says it all really. If there were more people like Fred in the world it would be a better place.

Any why would it? The past is in the past.
I know it is nice to cling on to the past and past values, memories, and such like. But you will be happier when you let it go.
Your parents will have felt the same, and your parents parents. The only difference is the issues which shape the world at the time.
I remember the past fondly, and in many ways the country will never be the same. But I am also excited for the future.

I was raised by a man of Fred's caliber, I was raised in awe of these great men the likes of whom I doubt I will see in my lifetime and it saddens me that such be the case. Good, hardworking blokes who knew their stuff and could keep you enthralled for hours, like Fred's chimneys - giants fall when they pass. How greatful I am, and how greatful we all should be for them, may their legacies live forever.

I'm a Cockney, London born and bred. There is something magical about Freds voice. Not just the accent, but the way he explains a very complicated proceedure in laymans terms. It is the confidence in the knowledge he imparts that makes you want to listen. And I did, and still do. Not some know it all BBC twat, but a man that wants you to share his experience and learn so that you can feel what he feels. He will never be replaced. As unique as DNA.

From his shop at his home in College Park Georgia he had the giants of industry come in hopes he would take on their repair work whether in replacement or refurbishment. Fred Dibnah was an inspiration to so many of us honest, hard working and passionate about his job be it demolishing chimneys or his love of steam engines and the industrial bygone era that was part of his past and proud of his heritage. ive met him a few times over the years we were at The Park Mill site that day as id worked there many moons before a true gentleman God Bless R.I.P

When Fred left us he was awoken in the next world by a man wearing a tall black victorian hat, "Wake up Mr Dibnah, I'm building this ship, she'll be bigger than anything else afloat, and I am informed that you are the man to speak to about making steam engines.... " Fred didn't need any introductions, he would have recognised Mr Brunel anywhere.

I am sure that Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and Fred would be able to correct Dr. Daecienus Lardinar, on absolutely everything.

The truth is, of course, there are hundreds, even thousands, of "national treasures" in countries around the world. But most never get recognised as such until after they are gone.
We're lucky that Fred did get spotted and was able to provide us with some great entertaining and insightful television before he died.
