Agreed. instead of coming up with ways to fix it, just get rid of it. These entitled young players want the recognition for being an all-star, but they dont want to play in the actual all star game. These young dudes make way too much money nowadays.
The only fix is The players deciding it’s important enough to give “summertime” effort. There’s no rule or incentive that can make it better if the players don’t want to do it
All players want to make an all star game because of contract incentives so just change those incentives from making an all star game to winning the all star game. Problem solved.
Offer embarrassment or the lack there of as an incentive. Shorten the rosters, make the conferences pointless, and have them play against players that actually want to win. A g league team, a team from overseas, wnba team. A team that can technically win if the nba guys aren't trying. Or have the coaches actually choose guys who will give effort. Bench guys who bring in energy. Fans still get their starting 5 but coaches decide the rest so it's on them to choose the right guys.
The best nba hoops podcast.. especially when its these 3 guys windy, bontemps and macmahon.. also have to say excellent point by macmahon at 55:42.. very true
This is about much MORE than an ASG. It’s bringing more attention to the lack of defense and constant 3’s which makes the game (for many) less enjoyable to watch. I thought I’d watch for the rest of my life, now I don’t know if I’ll casually watch 5 years from now.
Two ideas that would incentivise the players to try to win in the all-star game: 1. The winning conference gets an extra week off before games start again. (It can be done with good scheduling) 2. All salary based incentives that are tied to 'making' the all star game, change to 'winning' the all star game. If you can get this game to be competitive it could be awesome.
1. The schedules are made before the season starts, your week off proposal is preposterous and then also unfair to other teams who didn’t have an All-Star on their team. IF you meant when they make the schedule for the following season than maybe that’s a possibility but still unfair to the rest of teams. It’s an exhibition game.
Make the All-star game a full cartoon game ... 4 pointers, 5 pointers, 6 pointers, 2 points for shooting free throws backwards , Power plays or something , just go full crazy with it and make it wild as they can, I would be more interested .
Whats up guys the big 3 hoop collective podcast is back and great job guys it's always entertaining to watch you guys but it's funny to me that they would bringing back east vs west thinking it will be better competitive because in my opinion drafting players is more entertaining and the target score just like the rising star game format
Hot take … Move the ASG to after the finals.. players will be rested healed and the players who earned it would of have earned it all year.. then you incentivize it with either money, seeding, or finals home court.. and clown whoever don’t play seriously.. people hate being clowned that’ll make them all play.
And players who are in different countries because there season has been over for 2 seasons? Or the players who are now free agents and don't want to risk their future contract? Or the players who just fought through the finals playing 100ish games and want a break? Moving the game only makes sense if they move it up in the season, not back. Even that has its huge flaws
It’s a microcosm of a larger issue. The actual games are slowly becoming like the all star game. No effort. No defense. To many 3s. Stars not caring to play hard or even show up. Media is behind the ball on this one. Basketball is falling fast
My idea to fix the all star game: whichever side wins, every team in their conference gets a win and whichever side loses, every team in that conference takes an extra loss. It’s the perfect system, it won’t affect conference seeding since every team in the conference is getting an extra win or loss but can potentially affect finals home court advantage if the top seeds are close. But it’s also not the sole deciding factor for finals home court advantage. Makes the players want to compete since it’s counting for something, but it won’t mess up seeding otherwise.
embrace the scoring, make it like the old mtv all-star game where there are 6, 8, 10pointers from where dame and steph launch from, rim tiers for 3, 4, 5 points, make it what it is, a scoring exhibition
Here is my fix: all star game becomes all star mini tournament. Top 4 teams of each conference will send teams of 3 to compete in single elimination games that are 8 minutes long. 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3, winners play each other one winner represents their conference. East vs West winner play finals. To incentivise, just like play in tourney, the winning team will get $500,000 for all 15 active roster players. So basically the longest you can play is just 3games and a total of 24 minutes so no wear and tear. I’d prefer this team set up because if we make 8 teams of 3 all stars they won’t play Defense.
It will be interesting to see how different these all-star games look when Wemby and Chet are there, as defense is an automatic part of their stardom. I imagine it will change the all-star game pretty significantly.
Malika Andrews suggested to adding a few days to the all-star break. Start the season three days earlier and give all-stars half a bye week before or after the all-star break.
The winning conference gets an extra playin slot from the other conference, the extra team plays on the other conference. And/or more money and the players will get assesed depending on their game contribution from 0-10, 10 gets more money and 0 gets the Minimum, winners get more than loosers. And for gods Sake the game shouldnt be late night so that international aufiance could see it
You make it a one on one game for the first round. The winners in each conference join to make it two on two. Those winners join to make it 5 on 5 with the captain getting a pass to the 5 on 5 game. Two 20 minute quarters and winners get a tie breaker against a rival conference team come the playoffs.
Luka is too competive to try in ASG. Like he said, "noone tries on defense, why should I try on offense?" Makes perfect sense for him since his all about figuering out ways to break down defenses. If there is no defense, whats the point?
The easiest way to fix the all star game is to change the contract incentives from making an all star team to winning the all star game. Problem solved.
So tired of the “well what if they get injured” argument. If that’s the case just stop playing the regular season all together! Because there isn’t one dribble of basketball during the regular season where that EXCUSE can’t be applied. The NBA is a race to the bottom at this point and Adam Silver has nobody to thank but himself. These guys walk into the league as stars before they ever dribble a basketball and get showered with praise and handed awards before they’ve proven or earned anything. (Ben Simmons, Ja Morant, Zion, Anthony Edwards…the list goes on). The entitlement level is the problem…not the risk of injury…that’s just the excuse everyone uses to cheat the fans time and time again.
Fix the All Star game: Do the Rising Stars format, first to 21 by 1s only. Stop jacking 3s from half court. Fans vote for two 6 man teams, East and West. Coaches select another 6 man team. Media selects the final 6 man team. Only the Winners get paid. Allow players to make public wagers against each other, before or during the game example: Kawhi won't let Tatum score more than 3 times. Or mid game, SGA bets he'll score on Haliburton on this play. Players pride will force them to play hard.
Don’t ever have the all star game in Indiana again. The bench players get a week in the Bahamas while the star players get snowed on in Indiana & they gotta go to work 😂
I don’t think players will take the all star game seriously until they start taking Adam silver seriously. I don’t believe there is this certain level of respect that David stern commanded. Silver is a push over and he has let players walk all over him. Silver should be motivated because viewership was not even 5x million and they did put a lot of money into for advertising. Not sure if or how much that would affect the new tv deals, but less than 5x million definitely had to have cost some revenue. And silver really cares about money. His whole reasoning for not suspending Ja was because they’d lose money because Ja’s followers wouldn’t tune in as much if Ja was suspended. Go back and listen to all of silver’s press conferences regarding that situation. In every press conference, Silver ALWAYS talks about Ja’s followers. Yes, he cares about Ja’s overall wel being but Silver knows Ja generates money. And no Ja means not money. So back to original point with silver should be motivated, this all star game had to have not generated as much money as he was expecting and had in mind. And that should push silver in the direction of “hey you fucks, I put so much into this and this is all you could generate. Yeah this game is canceled” type of motivation. But until silver gets highly motivated, players won’t take the all star game seriously because at the end of day, players don’t take silver as seriously as they took David Stern
Its not complicated, it’s basketball. The players don’t care! They’re willing to play in the Drew League/etc during the offseason but don’t care for the allstar game. Adam Silver needs to grow a pair and act like David Stern!
Fixing the Allstar Game Vote the Top 20 Players from the NBA and the Top 20 Players from Europe and Form an International Allstar Game! Hopefully with a LitBit of Pride the NBA Players Will Compete On a High Level to Try and Beat the European Allstars!
The regular season still needs fixed though. They aren’t playing the game properly! Have them watch older all star games where the players would play defense. Show them the 1987 games it was one of the best. Went to overtime and everyone played hard and physical and properly.
It’s almost a diservice to keep the game at this point. To the common fan it’s if these guys don’t care why should we and that can extend to the regular season as well as the game
The idea that the Nuggets have almost no chance to finish in the top 2 in the west and less than 50% chance to finish in the top 4 is complete nonsense. According to Tankathon the Nuggets have the 8th easiest remaining schedule with OKC the 7th easiest. Minnesota has a significantly tougher schedule and the Clippers have the 7th toughest. Nuggets were without multiple starters due to injuries for a week before the all star game. Come on people, you're professionals. Let's give reasoned analysis rather than silly fake drama. I'd be shocked if the Nuggets finish lower than 2nd.
Just call a foul on everyone who doesn’t try to defend. Game will either be over after 10 minutes or players will realize they are embarrassing themselves and try harder
Make these players watch all star games from the 80s and 90s to show how they are wanting them to be like. 1987 was a great one. Have them watch that one for sure
Pay them more?!??!! Most of them have allstar selection clauses....sooooo they get paid far more in many cases by teams and some in shoe deals ,in younger Allstars🤷🏾♂️. Vets usually have it built in.
Been saying this for years. Adam silver is the weakest commissioner in all sports. The game has become a joke under him and the players don’t take him seriously. Hes a weak leader. He may be able to manage numbers but he has lost sight of the most important thing - the GAME product.
would u rather break your leg playing in a game against the best in the world..or during the very next game of the regular season against some scrubs who have won less than 10 games. an injury can happen at anytime..on or off the court. maybe count that win or loss towards player’s team’s record. that might help with effort
Bontemps is right, same thing with other US sports; asg in hockey. In hockey asg, current leader of the NHL scorer list, Kucherow, was an embarrassment; he wasn't engaged in the allstar - event at all, he didn't appreciate the whole thing very obviously. His body language was terrible and he was booed by the crowd.
@@michaelpatalano9884 they were horrible deals, I am not denying that. But I am not sure he had an option in terms of making the deal. Frankly, I’ll be done with the nba when LeBron retires. The other players aren’t good ambassadors of the game. It’s interesting watching a bunch of guys who don’t pay for these games and has all the access to the games and players say this doesn’t matter. But quite honestly, you guys should be the advocates for a competitive game since the media deal the NBA gets typically determines the industries salaries. It’s literally the reason the players have such lucrative deals. The argument about injuries is a joke because these same players will lace it up for USBA. And it’s become pretty clear, international players aren’t good ambassadors of this game. Giannis might be the most interested player and he wants to disappear like Tim Duncan as soon as possible. The league and media will realize just how impactful LeBron has been when he retires and the lure of this league diminishes greatly. I’m not even a huge LeBron fan because I prefer Wade and Magic as my fave players. But even I can acknowledge, LeBron’s talent on and off the court turned this league into a great product. Without him, the league holds very little value. When this truth hit the players and media personnel’s pockets, these conversations around competitiveness and LeBron’s impact will be vastly different.
All-Star Weekend is for the kids. Everyone saying “it was good back in the day” yea cuz you was a yute. Ask all the kids who tuned in if they enjoyed it, theyll say yea. There’s clearly a target audience for this
NBA players are people. They don't view the ASG as worth getting hurt to participate in. Why are they "assholes" for prioritizing health over an event that has no bearing on their contracts? Poor people CANNOT tell me that NBA players don't care about money. Those guys are on a different level than mere mortals and I don't know how much money it would take to wake them up. I imagine it will be very difficult for Adam Silver to make anyone risk getting hurt for 20-30 minutes of care-free/careless basketball. In my view, the best thing the NBA can do to make ASG Weekend better is ask the MEDIA to STOP BITCHING about the level of competition. Massage the narrative as is already happening.
Hot take, the all-star has never been consistently good. It's an exhibition game that will never have enough incentive to outway the devastating risk of injury. The all-start is what it is. The pro-bowl, MLB and NHL all-star games are all the same. NBA fans just find more ways to whine about it. Leave well enough alone or, here's a novel take, just don't watch.
🤔Either FINE THEM🔨 or PAY THEM 🥕- clearly the players need an incentive. Also, Steph/Sabrina showed 1v1 works, so create a 1v1 tournament and get rid of skills competition.

Pro bowl treatment. Do it after the season ends so players aren't so overly worried getting hurt in an exhibition game.
That doesn’t work for the pro bowl. You think players trying after the season is done? Come on

Take the winning score of the all star game, X $1,000 = that’s what each player on the winning team gets.
Losers donate $25k to a charity
Sean Marks is the Doc Rivers of GMs, except at least Doc has a ring. Marks has made a billion mistakes, and somehow still has a job. Disgusting work.
I wouldn't go that far. He did everything he possibly could roster wise. His superstars basically quit on him after he did everything for them.
What about both Harden deals? Horrible contract after horrible contract, and ONE SINGLE playoff series win in his career. That’s AWFUL!
@@michaelpatalano9884 they were horrible deals, I am not denying that. But I am not sure he had an option in terms of making the deal. The players had a line to the owner and basically got what they wanted . That's the point I am trying to make. I don't think he had enough control as a gm during the time that's all.
@@srinivassuresh466 I understand for sure, I just think that in the NBA you only get a few chances. Prove SOMETHING, or youre fired and move onto the next one. You could count on your hand move that has worked out well for them. He has made multiple firable offenses, and still has a job. Insane stuff.
Bontemps here, Bontemps there. Goodbye Hoop Collective until you diversify your guest lineup! Adiós amigos!

The all star game?
@@mohammedamin1995 the whole all star weekend
@@aadames it was wack besides 3 pt
Can't fix it if the players don't care.
Omg, I’m like 20 minutes in. Can Bontemps shut up and let someone else talk for once?
Dude, just stop watching. Lol
Nah kemba was already cooked
Why not go back to what they did in 2020
I’m so close to being done with the NBA. If the players don’t care, why should I
Frankly, I’ll be done with the nba when LeBron retires.
There’s clearly a target audience for this
It’s not only for the kids. Watch the 1987 all star that went to overtime they played hard and played defense.
US vs Rest of the World. You are welcome.
All Star game is definitely not for me.
What are we doing? It's essentially a 3-point shootout. If that's the case, just make it an East vs West 3-pt shootout. Why bother making a team
cant fix it just call it over move on
They did too use to play defense up till lebron came in the league is when they got more selfish and lazy
The injury excuse is ridicolous it can happen in any game they will also play in the Olympics.. They shouldn't play if already injured of course
