- In this Vlog I explain where I have been. What you need for a basic composer setup. How to mix layered instruments and explain 'The Secret' to getting my sound.
Great to see your star rising Daniel! Keep up the great work.
Your facial expression when describing how you your loops and converting Midi to audio shows your passion for what you do. Thanks for sharing
the key to getting the signature Daniel James sound?
flowery wallpaper
I knew it!
Hi James, happy see you here again, good luck in your next works, you´re great man !
hey Daniels. .... thanks for sharing so much of your working style. ... You are so Awesome with the Scoring. ... wish you All the best for your New project.....
Do plan to come to India, Calcutta also. .... you would love it
Yes yes! Can't wait for you to do a walkthru/review of Eclipse. Love that VST!
Been following you for a while and your always interesting to listen to and an inspiration. Keep it up! The 'secret' is really simply YOU. Being creative and carving out a niche that elevates you in one area over others is important, but as a young composer that is not always clear at first.. Hard work, passion for the craft, and experience will be your greatest teacher for one to find his
daniel!.. bro, wat yu r doing is very very helpful for those passionate musicians out there.. im really happy for yur career.. thankyu for all the efforts yu put in to help us..
Thank you very much, Daniel! Very helpfull!
Can I buy you dinner when you get to LA? It's the least I could do to thank you for all the great vids!
I am thinking I will arrange a composer meetup when I am there!
That works. I live in Orange County but work in East L.A. A composer meet up would be stellar
A meetup!!!! Yes, sounds awesome!
I just finished MGS5 a couple hours ago ( I know im late ) ... was so insane to see your name on the credits, especially because I subscribed when you did the score for the fanfilm ... you are a biggest inspiration
I would be very glad to see a couple of practical examples of your resampling techniques you mentioned at the end of the vlog.
Looking forward to seeing what you've been working on mate, good luck in LA!
👏👏👏👏nice, welcome to LA
Looking forward to hearing your new projects. Good luck in Cali!
Great news all around! Best of luck! Cheers!
This video is so good! Im looking forward to your new vlogs!
Legend! Can't wait for the new music
Man your vids are freaking AMAZING. THANK YOU, you've helped improve a LOT on my mixing and composing skills. I'm really up to your new videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Great advice and tips Daniel. good to see you back on UA-cam :)
Best of luck man, exciting times.
Been keeping up with your stuff since I met you at Game Music Connect the other year. Looking good man! Looking forward to hearing all this new stuff in the works
Thanks for sharing and welcome back to UA-cam :D
Some really interesting comments on mixing here Daniel, thanks!
Nice content! The tips and informations are helpful. :)
welcome back!!!
I'd also add for question two that the actual writing is important. If you have four strings that are all a third or forth apart, its gonna get muddy in big orchestral scenarios with lots of stuff going on. Keep them open spaced, well over an octave or two between the bass and violin. Stuff like that.
That's a great news, Daniel! Good luck with your movie project, and don't forget to share your thoughts and tips while on it..:)
Welcome Back!!
Great Video ! I have the AKG 712 too, they are amazing... but exactly as you said, the bass is a bit weak on it, so when I try my tracks in the car, the basses are way too heavy. I have to adapt.
Glad to see you're back! keep it up
Great Vlog Daniel! Keep them QA/Vlogs coming ! :)
Great video, really love the insight at the end about rendering audio as part of your workflow! Quick question about when you throw a loop in that you had made and saved previously - how do you like to deal with the tempo differences between the loop and the current BPM of your DAW?
HD650s are killer! Never been so satisfied
Thanks Daniel ! any advice about Reverbs ? IR-s ? Per Instrument Groups ? Do you use different ER or Release IR-s ? thanks !
take. the sticker. off. the shelf.
only messing thanks Daniel your videos are great
Hey Daniel! Thanks for making Vlogs again I appreciate these kind of
videos very much! Take your time dude (its done when its done, right?)
I love the flower wallpaper! :D
Hi, what desktop monitor (screen) do you use as your primary display? Looks like a Samsung?
Awesome! Thank you!
hey Daniel, awesome tips, i was wondering how you can get the opportunity to score MGSV, it will be awesome experience if you can share it with us, thx
solution to bass vs kick other than eq is parallel ducking bass for attack time of kick.
Do u play any instrument?
In a future video can you talk about how to get started licensing cues to trailer music companies?
Hi, do you mind to tell me if a composer living in a distant country can be hired to make some score for another country(like living in France and composing for an japanese game or living in Brazil and composing for an USA film)?
Thanks for sharing!
Do you use your DAW's EQ or some other plugin? Are you a fan of izotope at all?
Daniel do you feel the 16gb ram is acceptable or should I wait for the 32gb MacBook?
How do you pitch for a project ?
16:28 Volume has logarithmic scale. (Deci)Bell is a logarithmic unit.
I had no intention of getting into specifics. Just covering the concept. Am well aware things to factor up as simply as I put it.
Isn't the nano controller completely replaceable by the faders and buttons you have on the Axiom but never use? :)
it should be, but i've seen him use his thumbs when playing the keyboard for the faders since they are easy to reach.
Awesome! I use Ableton Live as well :D
another classic advice
Nice vid and nice advice!
But in the equipment you forgot the audio interface :)
you really don't need an audio interface for starting composing though, it is very helpful but not needed for beginners
In a earlier video he said that he is using a UAD Apollo 8 or 8p. But for a beginner or only for a homeproducer the Apollo Twin Duo would be good enough. Alle you need to start!:)
The Apollo Twin Duo is still £750 so again way to expensive for a beginner, good but for a home composer I guess! my point is that there is much more important stuff to buy with £750 like DAW, Samples or pc before an audio interface! As a beginner you can easily compose without an audio interface but you cant compose without the more crucial stuff
God fucking dammit. Ok add Audio interface to the mix. A cheap one will do. Just good enough to plug your speakers and or headphones into. Unless you do alot of live recording thats the only real purpose it serves xD
*UKFeneley* I think you do need it. Technically, yes, you can do everything without it. But in reality woriking with, say, an on board sound card, along with ASIO4ALL or other generic drivers, can get really frustrating really fast. Especially with heavy duty sample libraries.
It's like playing a game in 8 fps. Technically you can still play it, but in reality noone does.
Man. i'm surprised that you make everything on Live 9. i thought this software was made only for EDM. Good job!
Live9 is the best !
I think if I reply in Spanish you going to Understand, so...
"cos these vids only take about 15 mins to do", video length: 30:33....
You spoke twice as fast and slowed the video down? :P
how he can just move to The usa ? how he got the green card so fast?
16:03 How to mix/layer multiple strings (20:37 solution)
24:21 Secret to Daniel's sound
Wait I thought the secret was Pepsi Max...
...the secret is Vodka...
+Manchester Music ah man. Did you ever catch his Cockburns Port wine livestream?
nah. I didn't know he did them
Oh yeah he just got super drunk and started texting Hans Zimmer. Good times.
+JAZZ what! That's amazing.
"Soundstage"
most composers i know drink monster energie .... there must be somethink
