You are so considerate of other's time by posting your time start "jumps" and the contents by time. Not that I ever fast forward through your videos, (they are too informative to skip), but it is kind of you to offer. Thank you.
Just a note for future cuts you make. Scoring your line with an utility knife will eliminate the damage from the saw to the face. Nice video. Keep up the great work Larry.
When I saw your last video overview of the Aegis system, I was intrigued, but on the fence. I wanted to compare the pricing, but never got around to it. You beat me to it and I am so appreciative that you did! No longer on the fence, I’m now convinced this will be on a new layout I will begin building in our new home this April.
That looks amazing. The wires are more organized than in a lot of the oil field equipment my dad ends up working on. When your jigsaw blade hit the plywood screw, it porbably sounded horrible. I guess we can say your jigsaw got screwed.
Just ate the teeth on the blade but no damage to the saw itself. Fortunately I had another blade on hand so Inws able to finish once I got that darned screw out of there.
Neat system! But for someone who’s blind with a very tight fixed income, this is a pipe dream! However,it’s a nice system and cleans up nicely! Good job sir on the install!
Hi Larry, you make a compelling case. I think I am almost convinced an Aegis upgrade is the way I want to go. On another matter, I enjoy watching any of your videos where you are installing anything, and I have wondered if you have ever considered using an oscillating multi-tool for your cutting. I have a Dewalt and I have found it it be much more controllable than a jigsaw, makes less mess and doesn't tend to damage the area around the cut. Because the cutting blade sticks out in line with the body of the tool you can often make cuts in an area where the scenery has been done. Thanks for another informative video
I would mind having a NCE SB 5. Just spent dec.14-21 in the hospital, with Staph infection in my knee ,in which the infection spread to my blood, and being off from work, medical bills piling up. Unable to get NCE SB5
Just introduced to your channel by YT. The first one I watched was your recommendations and favorite DCC decoders. I'm currently building from various Lionel and Weaver parts a fictitious gas turbine/diesel powered box cab locomotive with a home made modified vanderbilt tender. This will be used on a 3 rail system with a DC can motor and most likely regulated variable DC on the rails. I would like to represent both the gas turbine and small diesel sounds. The turbine being the prime mover and the diesel for moving about the yard. Any suggestions? Love your channel and have subscribed and looking forward to watching more videos. Lynn C.
Boy that’s a complicated one and I honestly have no idea how you would do that. If you were running it on a DCC track then you could use two decoders, one a gas turbine and a second diesel one. But on a DC track there would be no way to individually control them.
Hallo Larry, 3 years ago you've made video how to add LED SMD to DCC locomotive. I would aprecciate if you make tutorial how to install right LED in DC locomotive, because it is not so easy. motor work in DC could damage LED, especially old ones. I read some German forums, but this issue still doesn't have common standard. Interesting doing it in primitiv case, for example couple or triple forward LED working when it run forward and not working backward. I guess we need diods and resistors as well. Thanks for your great videos.
hello Larry & it's is Randy i like yours video is cool thanks Larry Friends randy ..And i am enjoy yours video is super cool thanks Larry and Good Friends Randy
Larry, the Aegis system is considerably more expensive here in the UK than it is in the US - the equivalent of about $630 ☹. UK sales tax (VAT) is 20% which add a lot to the price.
I suspect that once they get shipments of these coming on a regular basis, Rails of Sheffield will at times offer discounts as they do with other DCCconcepts stuff. I got a great deal last year on 2 Alpha Meters from them. Of course I don’t pay VAT which compensates for shipping as well as the money changers fee. Iron Planet Hobbies is offering these here at a great introductory sale price.
Hello Larry: You got me thinking about Aegis system since I decided to build a seperate ops module. One thing you may think about is that they make jigsaw blades that are reverse cut/laminate blades that cut on the down stroke and not on the up stroke.
I find it easier to collect sawdust on the face if the cut than trying to manipulate the ShopVac hose under the layout where it can knock wires loose, etc.
Have I missed a video regards to the change to the NEC system from Digitrax? or are you still using it. I still use Digitrax and have not been that impressed by other systems when I compare them.
Hi Larry, Just wondering if you have had a issue with the encoder thumb wheel on your NCE power cab? I recently attempted to use the one on my power cab pro just the other day when I noticed that the numbers on the screen were erratic. I'd turn the dial upwards in order to accelerate the locomotive and in doing so, the numbers would jump from 001 to 007, 012 so on and so forth. While turning the dial in reverse order, the same occurred. Fortunately however, the four buttons on each side of the dial seemed to work flawlessly. Anyways, I was able to locate a how-to video on UA-cam that explains how to remove this faulty gadget from the power cab's PCB board and replace with a new. So why am I telling you about this, well because you're (or were!) an expert on the DCC subject of the hobby - especially in the NCE Brand of the DCC type system, I thought I'd ask you if you would or could suggest what type of soldering iron I should use to replace the thumb dial electronic connection to the PCB board with? 😊 Thank you in advance.
I think I saw a tech note on the NCE website telling how to replace the encoder. I used to replace mine on my early Digitrax throttles but have not had any problems with those on my NCE throttles.
If it works with NCE systems it should work with Aegis. They basically pass through to the PowerCab using the NCE throttle network design. As I showed in the overview video I can even use a 25 year old RamTraxx throttle with it.
It appears the new DCC concepts system is great to upgrade the power cab to a radio type cab. But I don’t see a way to get any other cab to be Wireless. How are you wiring empowering your accessory bus?
We’ll look at additional wireless options soon. With a full 5 amps on the DCC bus I use it to power my accessories for now. The 9 iP Digital switch machines and the LEDS were drawing less than 100 milliamps. On a larger layout I could add another accessory bus using the old SB5 or one from my assortment of other boosters.
Technically you can use just about any booster with a different brand DCC system. And I doubt there would be a significant enough difference in voltage to be of concern. However it might be best to use it to create an accessory decoder bus.
I'd bet a bunch of people would, any Power Cab owner should have an SB5 and a Wifitrax panel...lol I love my SB5 and that is the next thing I'm going to add to my DCC equipment is wifitrax. Then I'll have power cab and cab06, and then can add more wifi throttles than the number of people that can fit into my hobby room.
No, I think I had that displayed on the screen in bold red letters. I use 2 Alpha Meters on the Piedmont Southern, one for the DCC power bus and another for monitoring the DC power bus. The Alpha Panel is specific for use with NCE systems and actually also has the same circuitry as the power panel that came with the PoweCab and can be used in place of it or simply as a 3 socket throttle panel. They told me that it wasn’t a big enough cost difference to make 2 versions, one for throttles only and one as a PowerCab panel so they just added a selector switch to control the use.
I think the NCE Power Cab is great for what it is. Now I use Digitrax with Loconet on my HO railroad and DCC-EX on my N scale trains. I beleive DCC-EX, LCC and blunami dcc decoders are the future of Model Railroading. To me the implemntation of the Aegis system is a bit cludgy having a large transmitter connected to the PowerCab.
Why not upgrade to a TCS CS-105 instead of upgrading to Aegis? Upgrading to the CS-105, you are getting a modern command station with modern technology. While the Aegis is modern technology, it is still using old technology as the foundation of the system.
Aegis really is designed for modelers who love their PowerCabs but want the added power and performance Aegis offers. They could keep the NCE system but a wireless PH-Pro system sells for $900 and the CS-105 bundled with a UWT-100 is $730. So yes there are other options that depend on just what you want and how deep your pockets are.
@@TheDCCGuy I respectfully disagree with your budget review between Aegis and the CS-105 as an upgrade. The Aegis is $437.23 and the CS-105 is $529.95. A difference of $92.72. You do not HAVE to get a throttle when upgrading from the Power Cab to a CS-105. You can use your Power Cab. But the CS-105 provides you with an increase in functionality, adding a method of layout control that NCE does not (and as I understand with their new products) is not looking to include. The expansion opportunities of the CS-105 are numerous, being able to add anything NCE Cab Bus, anything LCC and with an adapter, anything LocoNet/Digitrax. While I think the Aegis is a welcome option for NCE users, if someone is going to spend over $400 on a system upgrade, there are other options to consider. I know that you have a CS-105 and I would be very interested in a comparison video between the CS-105 versus the Power Cab w/Aegis. Thanks Larry, love it but will stay with my NCE system

I will gladly consider this system next year when I have some extra funds looks incredibly simple
Looks a complicated upgrade! I like my Roco Z21 black box. It's wireless & gets updates from Roco which keep it up to spec. V happy with it.
Just a note for future cuts you make. Scoring your line with an utility knife will eliminate the damage from the saw to the face. Nice video. Keep up the great work Larry.
Great tutorial on the system. I’m a Digitrax guy but I always learn something from your videos. Thanks for the extra effort doing the pricing.

@@TheDCCGuy Oh, good. Anyone who buys a saw should always buy spare blades in case something like this happens.
Invest in a Vix Bit (Self Centering) for the pilot holes. Believe me you'll like the results.
