@SabbaticalTommy Let me provide you a brief context regarding the tribulations faced by the Rastafarians and the broader conflicts within Ethiopia. Rastafarians endure persecution for their affection and respect for Ethiopian heritage and the national flag. This flag is despised by Oromo rebels who support independence. These rebels, advocating for an autonomous Oromia region, are hostile towards a united Ethiopia and reject Ethiopian unity, instead favoring an independent Oromia. Conflicts frequently erupt over the Ethiopian flag (colored green, yellow, and red, sans blue), with its possession seen as support for Ethiopian unity. Regarding the incident involving the destruction of a Rastafarian-owned hotel, it was an act primarily aimed at the Amhara people, known for their robust pro-Ethiopian stance, including their reverence for Ethiopia's history, flag, monarchy, and unity - values also shared by Rastafarians. As a result, Rastafarians suffer persecution due to their ideological similarity with the Amharas, whom Oromo rebels view as obstacles to establishing an Oromia free from Ethiopian influence. Unfortunately, the current government, shaped by ethnic federalism, is increasingly influenced by Oromo ethnic groups that align with separatist ideologies. This development has led to actions consistent with Oromo rebel ideologies, including the persecution of both Amharas and Rastafarians. In reaction, a group called "Fano" has risen in the Amhara region, adopting the same flag and ideals as the Rastafarians. They strive to dismantle ethnic federalism and advocate for a unified Ethiopia under a non-ethnic federal system. Positioned against the Oromo rebels and the government, which now favors Oromo rebel ideologies, Fano's stance leads to persecution of any group sharing similar beliefs or symbolism, especially in Oromia, including Shashemene. The Rastafarians' deep connection to Ethiopian history and culture is a primary reason for their persecution. The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), with its ethnic-centric, pro-independence stance, has significantly influenced both the Oromia regional and the federal governments, now under the sway of Oromo groups supportive of the rebels.

Furthermore, we recognize that blackness is a pigment and not a race, and we condemn white supremacy in all contexts. Black communities' mentalities need to be improved, and South Africans must and another significant criticism directed at SA is their greater emphasis on matriarchal families. For a child to grow up to be a good, responsible citizen, a father's presence in the home is essential.

Salam from Miami. Africa is also my favorite continent. I have lived in Adis Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya. Ethiopia is my favorite African country. So much so I married a beautiful Ethiopian Queen. Great people, culture, food, music and memories.
Why didn't you marry someone from your own kind in your own native country? Someone who you share the most in terms of identity, culture, social class? All you Western males (most of whom are maladaptive) who chose to leave your home countries to marry women from other nations with who you share nothing in common shows something is wrong with you not the nations you've left.

I appreciate our detail knowledge of history/things in general like saying a word from Amharic and the simplicity you put it to us all understand. Thank you
They’re calling you China because when you smile, your eyes get squinty, just like mine 😂 hahahaha
Really appreciate the long, uncut and authentic vids like this Tommy
Wow! Ethiopia the land that God made. Impressive.
Humanity was created there.
Tommy, one of your best episodes. Loved learning about the etymology of the Rastafari. Best channel on UA-cam for travel and culture. Thanks for showing us all the real world out there.
Damn been watch'n since 2022, can't believe u finally came to Ethiopia. Nice to have u here Tommy ❤ 🇪🇹
I like the Chaos! :) Ethiopia countryside looks incredible!
I love your attitude and optimism. You treat everyone with respect. It’s great seeing your video after Kurt’s one yesterday, who seems to be annoyed by the fact that he’s travelling.
Kenyan here. Ethiopia is my favourite African country.
I think this was one of your best videos! I learned a lot, as always. You are the best travel vlog on the net.
Yes the tribalists and genociders oromos killed other tribes of Ethiopia and the Rastas. They stole property of the ither ethnics and Rasta's. Africans please watch out and don't follow ethnic federalism, they are a shame and embarrassment for Africa and the whole black race of the world. The TPLF and the OLA introduced ethnic federalism shameful and backward.
It’s crazy foreigners love Ethiopia more than Ethiopians love themselves and each other . Africa needs to grow up one day
We do love each other it's just that some people with big agendas get in the day.
This is far from the truth. Ethiopians are patriotic
I don't understand. Ethiopians Love their country more than anything. maybe u have some agendas.
@@ethiocanvas5808 you're like the only one that kept it real, ethiopia sucks so bad, i miss nairobi, i miss dar es salaam, i don't know why the swahili countries treat whites with the most love and respect, tanzania is my heart, followed by my beloved kenya, dodoma was kinda racist towards whites too, but that's why i specify then, that dar es salaam is my heart, followed by my beloved nairobi

Very well done! You are popular world wide and people appreciate being able to talk with you. Thank you for sharing with us!
Thanks Tommy and Josie for the great Videos you did about my Country Ethiopia. 🇪🇹
This was festinating to view. So much to take in. Chaotic and calm at the same time. .
Passive aggressive jokes, man he sneaks them in where it hurts and make you laugh at the same time, very chill dude.
Love your content! You always show the raw life of the people of the earth 🌎 thanks for giving us the chance to see the world through your travels. Safe travels
In Africa and discovering the earth through this channel 😅🙌🏽👌🏽
Dude what a great video. Probably one of my favorite ones of all time. Ethiopians look like they're great people.
I met a princess from Ghana, Africa in Illinois, beautiful woman. Very different from Ethiopia ..I think. She Became very good friends with my Spanish wife. The stories and bits of culture she explained was so cool. She had a very big impact of us only knowing her a short time. May she be blessed forever.."Princess S"
theirs no princesses in Ghana
@@StopTheLiessignorant Ethiopian. There are tons of royal lines and families in Ghana.
You guys disrespect Africa yet know nothing about it.
Ghana is all the way in West Africa. Ethiopia is in the East. And they have much different cultures, religions, food etc. Newsflash we don't live in a big jungle together. Would you randomly mention you know a French person to a person from the UK? European people's ignorance smh
@selamc20 agreed and to be sure..I never said they were close..and I did state in my comment are very different. I'm sure that what you speak of is genuine. My words might have confused the experience. Be blessed!

Amazing video! Happy New year from St. Petersburg, Russia!🎇❤️🔥
honestly and easily one of your best videos yet, so raw, weird, chaotic and interesting, everything i love about your channel
Another great Documentary. One day these videos will be used to remind people what the world was like before history repeats itself again.
I love Ethiopia! Thank you for sharing 🙏
When Ethiopia is safer than some parts of Chicago, LA, or NYC
most part of Ethiopia safer than Chicago, LA, or NYC. He is having fun by going all underground Tej house without getting robbed. Know that all of the bars he is going are underground and most of them unlicensed bars. Still safe.
most parts of africa is safe, beside actual warzones and terrorists infected areas.
You are right. In LA, they stole my excellent tablet.
This area he went to is actually not safe for some Ethiopian ethnic groups. He is safe because he is not from that ethnic group (and a foreigner)
In a day to day life, Ethiopia is one of the safest places. Occasional tribal conflicts flare up here and there, mostly in remote rural areas. Violent crimes are rare
wow Josey's back - she's cool. Good travel companion! Cheers S for the videos. I want to visit Ethiopia now
Wow, this entire trip was chaotic but wow the views and the different cultures is amazing to see.
Those girls are not coming to attack you they came from tigray region and it's a cultural song they wanna sing for you and other people too.
Happy New Year. One of my favorite vlogs you have done. Beautiful people. An interesting history of the country. Well done and I LOVE your side kick. 🥰
Glad you posted this video. Chaotic at times but still educational and entertaining as well. Thank you
Miss josey good to see you again! "youre fighting like tigres and oromos" had me in tears
Tommy's catchphrase: "Honestly don't know how good of a video this is going to be..."
I am Djibouti, I was there in this place and I can tell you that the ethiopian people are so nice and respecteful people❤
Ethiopians are probably the most humble and respectful people on the continent. Quietband gentle.
That was the most interesting travel video EVER! Man! Definitely far off the beaten path!
That guy slating your American english 😂
Shashemana👏👏😁🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹
Great Job, we wish you all the best for the next year 2024 and all your fans 🎉❤️ have nice year guys 🎉❤️
Incredible storytelling, humble nature, infectious energy... thanks so much Tommy, you're a journeying masterpiece
Sabbatical you should go to the Ogaden region in Ethiopia! Meet the Somali population there. I’d love to see it!
I can't believe you were considering not posting this one. It might be your best work yet. Also great to see my Ugandan fellow sister making an appearance. Shout out to her.
Sick bro! I was hoping that you would share more of Ethiopia through your perspective

Ethiopia is amazing and people are beautiful good people
This was very fun to watch, I like how you view things in all aspects.
Amazing and so interesting . Thanks Sabbatical & of course the wonderful Josie
Jamaica - Ethiopia!!! Just when I thought I have known "everything" I learned this; incredible! Your companion (Josie?) is a very charming lady. Thank you for this first-hand ethno-cultural vignette.
Josie has a channel you may enjoy aswell
Jamaica is in every land because the knights of the round is still valid.
jamaica has nothing to do with ethiopia, it`s just this very small community of jamaicans that live in a village. and they will be sent back.
@@YonasMulugeta-y1zI thought Ethiopians were kind n generous ppl
@@YonasMulugeta-y1zwhy should they go back , why can’t they live there ?
The effects of the green leaves begin to kick in after chewing continuously, while adding a few leaves periodically, for about 45 minutes. It peaks at around 2 hours and you can keep going as long as you can, usually 4 to 6 hours. You also need to chew with something sweet like bubble gum to reduce the bitterness.
Happy new year man, discovered your videos recently and it's so awesome what you do!
Awesome video. I knew of the Ras Tatafari history, but thought the settlement in Ethiopia would have died out by now. Great to see it has survived and the people there are true.
Great content Tommy. Your videos and perspective are a real life approach to adventure vacationing. Happy New year !
I really enjoyed this adventure and Josse is the perfect travel guide. You have a way of making me feel that I'm with you😊
Tommy, could you please show us more of Ethiopia
I am native Ethiopian and khat yes that’s how it is actually spelled is not taken that seriously it is the closest thing to adderal and offering children practically alcohol is crazy😅
明けましておめでとう!今年もSabbatical の冒険がとっても楽しみです!
Great video. Thanks for taking us on your incredible travels. Fun time and thanks for posting!
I heard there are thousands of species of coffee beans in Ethiopia .
Josey has the most contagious laugh . Thanks for another great video . Stay safe Tommy .
Glad you posted it, cause that was insane! I mean the Japanese rasta guy from Kobe living there... My god! He must've been through a lot there. Even just travel vlogging seems challenging in that country, jugding by what I've seen from Yves.
ጎበዝ ነጭ ነዎት። you are Amazing to see all national Japanese/Jamaican wonderful.😀
Sorry Josey dont be offended if they think you are Nigerian most Ethiopians love Nigeria. The lady called You blakee its an Ethiopian thing if you dark they call you darke(Barecho)if you light they call you lighte(Keyo).
Wow ! What a lot of kids , they always make me laugh the way they react to you and the camera. I’m really glad you posted the video Tommy, don’t be so hard on yourself, we all still love you whatever you film. Cheers.
Thanks for going to and recording your everyday experiences in Ethiopia- I haven’t been there since 2012.
You are so right, Sheshemene is one of the most random, surprising and odd places you can find, and that you find it in the heart of Africa makes it even more spaced out. Well worth a visit.
Im so happy you and josie together again i miss your vlog in uganda and nigeria
Your videos are always amazing dude, a real eye opener to the wider world that almost all of us would never see otherwise. Appreciate you man.
Always enjoy your trips with you 2 🇯🇲
A lovely 2 sec shot of Josey`s matako 😅
