Seriously?!? How could a jingle bells video be life changing?? I can't get enough of this channel or of Jeremy. Hope you get some sleep Brother! Best channel on YT. Gonna stuff this right in my stocking!
You're awesome! I'm on Jazz Fundamentals Book 1 Unit 1. I am looking forward to making my way through them all. Happy stocking stuffer and get some rest. Congratulations on the new born.
Ooh, you're just at the beginning of your journey!!! Enjoy it and let me know if you have any questions that I can help you with. Oh, and by the way, if you're interested in going through the books in a class setting, I'm able to offer a twice-weekly Zoom class through Fullerton College (a California community college) for a rate of about $70 for the entire semester for California residents and only a bit more for out of state residents. You can learn more at www.jeremysiskind.com/jazzclass/
I can't wait to try this. Also, found this ... primer rhymes with "dimmer" when it means an introductory lesson or textbook. And, I often say stocking "stucker" as well, when I am "stuck" in the process of selecting an item to buy for the stocking. ;)
Thanks so much for doing this video, Jeremy. I believe it may have been a response to my question/comment about harmonizing melodies with pentatonic voicings on another video, so thank you very much for taking the time to answer the question so thoroughly!
Enjoyed this. You alluded to drop 2. Since a pentatonic scale is like a M6 chord with a 9th, my first thought for the non-chord-tones was to use a drop 2 diminished, a la Barry Harris. I realize that's departing from the pentatonic scheme, though, and it was good to see your planing and chromatic options. Good luck with the sleep! Been there.
Loved this one, as always. Can you do another video where there’s a incessant pinging noise constantly going off and distracting you? The vibe of that vid hits different. Can’t stop thinking about it
@@JeremySiskind Well, yes, the melody is in the top, but when constructing chords in classical harmony a melody of C,D,E would be stacked giving the chords C Maj, D min, E min. Basic jazz harmony would be C M7, D m7, E m7, etc but I've never seen "dropping down" which would harmonize the melody of C,D,E as F Maj, G Maj, A min. What am I missing?
@@codetech5598because he’s starting with the melody and using the formula he started with; so, he just wants to leave the melody on top so that’s it heard. He could still technically spell the chord from the bottom up once he’s done with it.
Great job Jeremy. Well explained.

Wow, you're the best hype man! Thanks for your great enthusiasm and thanks for watching!

@JeremySiskind thanks. I will check that out. I am 43 but passionate enough to get caught up hopefully within the next 5 years or so.
Great idea stuffing the Christmas stockings! Happy Hanukkah!
Fantastic! Enjoy, Jonathan! 🎄 🕎

Haha, thank you for the tips!!! You've given me a real primer (pronounced "primmer") on pronunciation!

Yes! It was your original question, I remember your photo. 😊
Amazing! Thank you again ☺
That was very cool - can’t wait to get through the first couple of fundamentals book. Thank you! Maybe should just put it in my own stocking anyway…
🎉Stockings indeed. Cheers Jeremy
Thanks so much, Tom! Happy holidays!

Lolol I'll take that [ping!] request under [ping!] advisory! [mutters: goddamnit]
Thank you, and mazal tov.
Many thanks, Sheila!!!
Christmas stockings!
Thank you so much for watching, Carl!
Great job Jeremy! A question: what tablet do you use in your videos and what program do you use?
Why are you "dropping" the notes from the top down instead of "stacking" notes which is normally the way to harmonize?
Because I'm harmonizing the top melody!

Anthony Burgess said that jazz harmony is like a wasps' nest, constructed from the top downwards.
@@DougMaverickTube Of course you can always put the melody on top after you construct the chord by stacking chord tones.

What springy emojis from you, Brenda! Have a great one!
