Welcome to my channel, I love motorcycles, boats, guns, and freedom. I live in South Florida and trying to make the best of it with what little I have.
Oh my gosh! This could be a game changer for me. I have been looking for a way to load my 49 pound kayak on top of my RAV4 by MYSELF! Can’t wait to try this! Thank you!
I’ve been able to load my 13’ (88lb) by doing a clean and jerk then shoving it on my suburban. Just bought a 14.5ft tandem mirage that is 96 lb but handles aren’t in the middle to balance and lift like the revolution . Praying this works so I can load up the night before without having to have my wife help. Awesome idea!!!
Great idea and inexpensive! Just built and used my adaptation of this design. I did not have the aluminum bar or equivalent steel for the rack attachment. I tried plumber's tape (perforated steel strap) but it was too flexible even when doubled up. My solution was to use bungie cords to hold the pipes to the racks. The bungie cords attached to pipes at holes drilled near the pipe ends. The bungie cords double for fastening the pipes to the racks for storage. On the ground end trees were glued to prevent the pipes from rotating while hoisting the kayak. The pipe and tees used were 1-1/2" sch 40. Possibly 2" would be a better choice but the 1-1/2" is adequate. It works for me. The original concept is great.
this might be my favorite solution to this problem so far since it allows side-loading onto J-racks. All the other super simply DIY PVC stuff has been based around rear-load where the boat just goes straight up from the back and rests in upright position on a flat rack.
Great idea! I wouldn’t have thought that pvc would hold up to that weight. Along similar lines, I made 2x3 ramps but added some pulleys and line from Home Depot to easily load my 85lb kayak. Four pulleys and 100ft line. I wrap the line around an 18” piece of pvc for an easy grip.
I got all my supplies at Home Depot or Lowe’s. That is the cheapest route. If you do this, get the more expensive stainless steel parts. Also, pick the highest capacity (lbs) for safety.
Love it but I have a question. Why not load it right side up. Wouldn't it be easier. I would love to see it cause I don't understand why you didn't do it that way. Because your way, you are bumping it on the inside of the kayak. Right side up you would just slide it on the bottom of the kayak and just push it up into the rack.
I am a disabled person, (not because of smoking, which I never have done) I have loss the use of one lung and I am permanently on oxygen. This will work for me. I can lift but then I am so winded, two lungs are so nice to have but with one everything is labor intensive. Thanks for the post.
How about 2x4, get two pieces of 2x4 and screw a long floorboard to reduce friction, spray some soapy water to load. To unload reverse the 2x4 to the rough side for better grip. Just a thought.
I made something along the same lines. My kayak is around 90 lbs but all I needed were lighter 2x3’s, on edge. To reduce friction, I screwed a long thin pvc pipe to the boards and it’s quite slippery.
Best side load optio. I e seen so far....really awesome! Thank you....i had a quick question....mywife has a honda cry and I have my pick up....we have a seaghost 130 and a yellowfin120...with the j racks we wanted to set up on her crv, do u think we could fit 2 racks on each side of the crv and and have both yaks on her roof rack? Thanks in advance!
Couldn’t you open the car door to step up onto? I don’t know if that would work or not. I am glad to have an older (2004) Suburban that both of my kayaks can fit into the inside of.
Hmmmmmm. I wonder if this would work with my Jlow racks and a 41 pound kayak. There's nothing for the PVC pipes to hook into and my kayak has a keel. It's a sit in kayak.
Try lifting and loading a 95 lb kayak multiple times. It might not be too heavy for a muscle man, but it sure is bulky and unwieldy to handle. Sooner or later it you’ll drop it and damage your vehicle.

Great idea! I have Malone J racks on a Subaru Outback. I'm 5'1" and I can't get my yak up on them 🤷🏼♀️

Do you have a pic of what you built?
Never took a picture of it. One day I hope to post a video of it though.

I would need a pulley system to get my 75 lb old town on top my Kia Soul

That was my thought as well.

Attach a winch in the other side and it will lift for you.
If space is a premium then you could thread the PVC tubing into 4 or 6 parts.
Great idea Jesse.
This is super cool. The only thing I'd prefer is to have those PVC pipes collapse like one of those popup canopy tents. Thanks for the idea!!!!
Great idea! Thank you

How long are those pipes? Great mod man
You do not have to use the aluminum to make hook, heat and bend the PVC pipe at the end to any shape you want. Save another a few $$ :-)
SMART!
This guy is super strong....
@@michaelsnively3621 I’m also pretty smart…
@@weekendventures11 I don't have any doubt. But that's a big kayak and you can pick it up and move it around, IF you have to. I'd be pancaked....
Awesome!
Bjamin F Nice job!
What size pvc pipe to keep it from sagging????

Charles Eden Thanks dude, yes that’s what they were made for I’m pretty sure. You can put 2 on both sides to carry both.
Couldn’t you open the car door to step up onto? I don’t know if that would work or not. I am glad to have an older (2004) Suburban that both of my kayaks can fit into the inside of.
How did u reinforce your bar hooks in the PVC pipe and then how did u brace the two PVC pipes reinforced
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing this! How long is the PVC pipe?
8ft I think, the size it comes from Home Depot, I didn’t cut any.
Nice
you can get shorter pvc that pops together so you can break down and put in car

Evelyn Dorman I believe in you
Hey buddy, Great design. Which kayak racks do you have exactly that have that slot built in the edge? Thank you.
Malone Folding J Downloader
@@weekendventures11 thanks man. I’m in the process of ordering an outback and I’ll be using your method for sure!
Did you reinforce the PVC? If so, with what and how?
What size pvc pipe and how long was it
Fucking genius bro. Was thinking of making something similar... This is way simpler than what I had in mind.
Big boy like you should be able to just lift that kayak up....Come on! :)

@@Thfeyhvfdetyhbvcd take a joke fella
I thought you were being serious.
This ramp might help my sister who put two dents in her car trying to load her heavy Hobie.
@@Thfeyhvfdetyhbvcd it is good - hope it works for her
How long are the poles?
what J racks are you using that 1) support an 85+ kayak and 2) have the opening for you to hook your PVC pipe to.??
bbsmo Malone folding ones, I think they are only rated for 80 or 85lbs.
Exactly whatI do 18 foot kayak on van easy has pie to unload and load
use an atv electric winch dude
what???? you can load by hand in 1/5 of that time. what exercise means to you ....
You can start a business where you load everyone’s kayaks for them
Bamboo would be stiffer.
That would be a good option
Very nice! Thank you!
As he dents his car 3 times
Just some love taps
