    Thanks for another great video and the handout. They are always helpful.
    There aren't many channels that I would sit through a 20 minute advertisement for (just yours and a couple of others), but I am glad that I did. The car that it advertised is exactly what I need at this point in my life (Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV). Now, to magically have a loaded wallet. :)
    I am having a hard time overcoming old habits of just researching and not keeping notes or having a research plan. Now, when I don't make the notes and I can't remember where I found this or get back to that, I can hear your voice saying, "keep research notes!" Like with other parts of my life, I have to just do it, even when old habits are very insistent. I will get there!
    Thanks for all that you do for the genealogy community. Have a blessed weekend.

      Wow... Suzanne, please don't feel like you need to sit through that many ads. Watch 30 seconds or more and then hit skip (if it is skippable). I should still get paid if you watch 30 seconds of it. Thanks for your support. You're a super star.

    This is so good. I am rebuilding my grandmother's branches from scratch for... well... reasons... and am planning on doing it with my other grandparents as well. Part of the reason was exactly this. 1. I had no check list and 2. I was getting really overwhelmed by the hints. Now instead of adding people 1st, dealing with hints 2nd, I built 1/4 my tree out as far as I could (I've done it before so I know a lot of who should be there), and now I'm going through each person's hints, leaving the tree hints last... well mostly. If there's something I don't know, like q spouse's maiden name, I cheat a little and see if anyone gave me a possible place to start.

    Wonderful! Thank you, Connie! Ancestry Hints - when another has built their tree incorrectly, Ancestry offers the incorrect sources as hints. You have to be so careful, logical & questioning as to whether these suggested birth, census, marriage & death records are the correct ones, even before you look at the member trees. Sometimes, they take you down the wrong road, with a person that has the same name as your research focus.

    I add the documents individually to my ancestor files.
    After that I blog the document and then transcribe the document - I still keep binders with documents I also keep the really old bibles -especially originals.
    I blog so I can “take” family history to present to others if requested.
    I also show them how to get to my blogs.
    I am a 4rd generation genealogist and am gently training a fourth generation!
    He knows what I am doing and actually does go on the blogs and READS them!!!!!!!

    I have been plodding thru bits of paper and notes and stuff just so I can keep where I am on a search or which branch I am searching. Too often I just write on any slip handy and have to stop doing that. Note books for each family branch is my goal. I have file boxes for family branches already, just got to get this paper bits thing under control.

    Phenomenal video. There are a lot of sides that get difficult to research further back than 1850 but I’m sure the answers are out there - Onslow County is not a burned county like I’ve ran into a lot of another grandparent’s side, it was a lot smaller before Camp Lejeune, and most of my surnames there aren’t too common

      Channel membership is best for recent videos and their handouts.

    question I am new to citing sources how do you know how to cite what sources on the research notes pages for like find a grave from ancestry, or census or newspers clippings etc.

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  3 місяці тому

      It is too detailed to answer here. Just put who what where when for the document you can always use it URL if you had to until you learn how to do source citations. Think about how you could find this document again if you had to 10 years from now.

    For some reason, and I'm probably not doing something correctly LOL, I'm a channel member that has gotten handouts before, but today when I go to Community Tab, the most recent shown is from 4 weeks ago. And nothing with links for the handouts. I can't find a place to log in so please tell this dummy what I'm not doing! :)

      Dottie, Under you account that I'm responding to, you are not a member. However, I searched the member list and do see a member with your name... so I'm guessing you have two Google accounts. Check the other google account. When you log into your other account, you can go to your icon in the upper right corner and drop down to purchases and memberships. There you should be able to confirm your membership. And BTW, you're no dummy. Many, myself included, ran into this same problem.

    I know this may not be the video to ask this question but, I found a marriage record for ancestor can you tell me why they would put red X's next to the place of birth and a red number in the area of the place of marriage?

    • @GenealogyTV
      @GenealogyTV  Рік тому +1

      Donna, I'm not sure without seeing the record. It might have been a copy of the original. The number might be the original. The red x in place of the birth, I'm not sure, but it might have been hard to read the original or they didn't know when they were born.

    I am finding that some of the history out there is false. How do I know it's false? I have the original documents. I'm talking about names, dates, number of children in the family. My grandfather was born in 1879 and my grandmother in 1890 so I have a lot of original documents. How do you correct some of these things? One is as basic as my mother's sister's name. It's Marguerite and many places have it as Margaret.
