Maybe if it was stranger you could have ended things much sooner, but there was nothing to be gained from killing a friend.

Anyone knows that even Superheroes and Villains are Evenly matched. A few battles between the Vampire and Hunter would add to the Character Arc. Eventually, since the Vampire is superior in almost everyway to the Human Hunter, the Vampire would still eventually win.
