Found your channel through Gary Tan. This is the first video I watched of yours. How inspiring! Just over a year ago, I got my first job in tech sales. Thanks to the pandemic and my job at the time being completely shut down (I worked as a personal trainer - still to it part time now) my life is on a new path. Before, I had so many limiting beliefs about what I was capable of and how much I could earn. After getting that first job in tech sales it's been a wild ride and I'm thankful everyday. I've been able to 3x my income and can only go up from here. I feel stability. I feel confident. I have a different and more optimistic outlook on life. To those of you out there that are stuck - make a move NOW. Don't wait. I literally changed my family's life and all it took was 1 job opportunity. Since then I've moved on to a new start up. But you have to take that first step. Thanks again for this video - you earned a sub and a like!
Happy to see how far you’ve gone bro. I remember being stationed at 78 with you and you just picking up coding, was crazy how fast you picked it up! I’ll also never forget leadership of ours telling you that you won’t make it out there. Super proud to have worked with you my guy! Sacrificing happiness in the navy, that part hits man!
There's so much I miss about being in the Navy with y'all back then. And yea, they told me over and over how stupid I was 🤷🏾♂️. Thanks bro, we always had something funny as hell to laugh at back then to make it through
This really inspiring. You said you're a dropout, but it's only applicable to one aspect. You're not a dropout when it comes to other aspects. YOU'RE A SOFTWARE ENGINEER 👨💻 (SENIOR)... This is a certificate on its own. I got inspired by you boss. I'm on the same path, I'm looking forward to being a software engineer. I started web development as a self-taught but it wasn't easy because of the situation of things in my country. I stumbled across an ad on UA-cam I guess, a bootcamp by Leon Noel which I just filled the form and submitted without checking back. I got a mail from Leon congratulating me that I'm part of those picked for the cohort. I was very happy cause I never thought I would be picked. Now I'm currently learning software engineering online,a 30 weeks course. We are currently in the 4th week. I'm really enjoying it, although the assignments keep me up till midnight. I don't get to sleep to my satisfaction unlike before. I know I'm gonna make it out alive with determination and discipline. Thanks for sharing your success story, I wish to meet you in the future (PHYSICALLY).
hi Scott, I watched your talk the other day on Utah JS channel and just wanted to say that it's the best dev talk I've ever watched beside Dan Abramov's Future of React. Keep it up!
This is amazing. I grew up in poverty and became a developer without a college degree as well. It’s awesome to actually be able to relate to a story like this. As you say in the video, this is something not a lot of people talk about.
Loved your Intro to Node JS course @ Frontend Masters. Love your personality And the quality of the video. Looking forward to more videos & courses. All the best!
I’m proud of you Scott. You are an American success story. Especially in these times of victimization. You are proof that hard work, perseverance still pays off. Thank you.I subscribed to your channel.
I see myself in your story - and I needed this inspiration right now!! 💯I'm 3 months into Full-Stack studies and even though I'm one of the top of my class, I still have self-doubt. Everybody seem to have a different background than me, and that's why I spend every minute studying.
Great video, Scott. Your video came out at the right time for me. I am also learning to transition myself to tech industry in South East Asia region. Just like what you said, patience is important!
I'm taking your Next JS course on Frontend Masters and this video gave me the motivation I needed to get going this morning. I'm trying to make a transition from construction worker to software engineer in my 30's, and hearing about your non-traditional route is some real inspiration. Thanks for sharing your story!
Your story is really inspiring. Ive decided to change career paths and Ive always been into tech, even as a child. I want to become a software engineer. I was thinking of taking a bootcamp and your video really inspired me!
Currently in the military super depressed but disciplining myself to finish my degree in IT while taking certificates, sacrificing your mental health for a paycheck sits with me all too well bro your story is amazing ✊🏾
