As I'm below I hear him above me so as I go up the ladder and run towards the door his footsteps sounded very close and he stopped moving which as soon as I opened the door I didn't see him so he had to be in the corner. If I continued to hear him move I would of gone down the hall looking but I heard his footsteps very close and then they all of a suddenly stopped which let me know he's extremely close. I play the game ALOT so I have alot of game sense to know where to look and how people play.
