This is an implementation of the system for exposure as popularized circa 1948 by Ansel Adam with exposure steps in stops and the mid-grey at 18% reflectance. You can map false colors to 18% mid-grey since the published log curves provide the IRE values-to-stops relationship for various cameras. My monitor happens to offer 14 colors with better resolution around mid-grey, e.g. I get "green" exactly at 18% grey and "pink" at exactly +1.3 stops over 18% grey.
The EL zone system was invented by photographer Anders Torger. It is a digital adaptation of Ansel Adams' original Zone System, designed to work specifically with digital cameras. The system focuses on using the camera's exposure latitude (EL) to achieve optimal exposure and dynamic range in digital photography, providing a practical approach for controlling tonal values in digital images.
It would be helpful if you would support cameras like Nikon or find a way to make EL Zone available for any camera. Right now this is completely crippled for many cameras.
He patented this method and gatekeeping it. That is why nobody implements it, not because companies are unaware or lazy. Same thing like with RED and internal raw recording - it is a shame that it is possible to patent just concepts like this, and not technical know-how.
make yourself a LUT instead of paying royalties to a guy who managed to get a patent for a color scale mapped onto Ansel Adams' zone system that shouldn't even be granted
PageOS 6 is coming Fall 2024. Announcements will be sent on our various social media channels and via email. Can you please clarify what you mean by USB camera controls? We currently have camera control for ARRI, RED, and Sony VENICE/VENICE 2 cameras with FX6 and BURANO coming soon.
@@smallhd Please look up the new release by Atomos, the Shinobi II. They’re offering camera controls for most cameras including the Sony FX3 and a7S3 via a basic USB-C cable.
@@smallhd I think you guys should add camera control on Blackmagic cameras as well. Portkeys is already doing it, but their product is not as good as yours. Would love to see that feature.
@@skymakaii am just curious. Atomos line is more affordable and are meant to be in line with prosumer. Small HD is not cater to that anymore. Hence the camera that they offer are the top of the line cinema camera. I feel like if you look at their products is different league. Not to say they shouldn’t make something like atomos Shinobi 2. Just different market. Like Sony ref or Flanders. Their products are not for average consumer’s.
EL Zone in SmallHD monitors completely changed my workflow. It's the best thing EVER. I can't remember the last time I needed a light meter.
This is one of those "why the hell wasn't that implemented from the start" kind of thing
It was patented and any monitors that uses EL zone need to pay license fee.

Does this only work on SmallHD monitors or is it possible to install it on other brands?

Buy an Atomos Ninja V/V+. It supports EL Zones with an upgrade.
@@jonaswinkler_dpcan you elaborate on how to get the update?
This is game changing wow this man is a legend I have a question did you guys implement the new 15+ in the small HD monitors yet
Спасибо тебе! Ты объединил поколения! Снимаю шляпу, коллега!

Interesting ratio (9:9). Do we have an ETA on a full release of PageOS 6? How about USB camera controls to compete with the Atomos Shinobi II?

Now explain what you do with cameras that have dynamic range greater than what this reads
Muy bueno!
I installed this as a LUT on my Monitor, not Smallhd and works great as well...
And where to get those LUTs?
@CKanimalsworld Thanks but I am not on Resolve, yet ;)
I did this sort of thing years ago 2019 as a lut, nothing new here. WTF how has this been patented?
ELZone is fantastic. But it is not "giving something back" to the film community if you patent it and limit its implementation.
