Yes, ancient China's having people in their government castrated is a real thing. They are called Eunuch, and the purpose of this practice is to prevent them from seizing power as they could not pass down their gene for their own dynasty. This has... varying level of success. The most use for this would be for the Empress and concubines residence, as all men are banned there, with male servants and attendants working there are Eunuch. Even the royal guards can't really enter. The reason is simple, you don't want your women to have an affair and potentially get cucked out the throne. Shit was wild.

The "for a trustworthy government official, pick a eunuch" concept was hardly exclusive to China. At its core it goes to the basic rule that if absolutely nobody thinks it's okay for you to rule, your own bodyguards will kill you if you try to. (The royal guard being expected to kill the ruler if necessary is also an old concept.) China was at least exceptional in rumours of somebody faking being a eunuch with the goal of seducing a princess or dowager queen (somebody who isn't actually in power, but has the title due to their relation to the ruler) into supporting a coup in their favor... and historically, it seems like this did at least once happen even if it got nowhere near close to succeeding.
The Chinese pump them out by the truckloads, you've even got soulslikes, you don't hear about them because why would you hear about them, xianxia and wuxia stuff is extremely chinese.
I didn't know what to expect in this video but it feels slightly weird that the game I'm currently playing is Rogue Legacy and Alana brought it up (6:27), but thanks for the video Alana.
