That's fantastic to hear! The Tern NBD is really a game-changer. It's amazing how the right bike can make such a big difference in daily life. What are some of the biggest changes you've noticed since getting it?
@Propelbikes well, a little background. I have spina bifida and am terribly short. I use a wheelchair for longer distances. I'm also half Dutch/Irish and live in an incredibly hilly part of Ireland. My dad taught me to ride a bike when I was small, to give me freedom but as I got older and things got a bit more painful along the way, what with the hills, I couldn't cycle anymore. It was such a shame. I had been really wanting to try an ebike, to see if I could get cycling again. I tried the S5i and it fit like a glove. The motor, belt drive and hub gear, allow me, me! To get up one of the steepest hills in our area. I use the bike almost every day to just explore, cycle to get groceries instead of taking the car and the confidence is improving constantly and I have camping trips planned, where I cary my gear on my bike and go off exploring the West of Ireland. Also... me getting back into riding my bike, has got my dad back into riding his regular Dutch bike again and he's enjoying it a lot! He's in his late 60s. It's got me and my Dad back out and it's allowed me to ditch the car and wheelchair a good few times. And I can feel my fitness slowly coming back to when I was in my early 20s. Honestly, I can't believe it took me this long to buy one. (I did have to save for quite a while, but its worth every cent i paid.)
Love this breakdown of the new bikes. Tern always has the fine details nailed down and it's so cool to hear all the considerations. Happy GSD rider, here.
Thanks a lot! Tern really does an amazing job with the details. They really pay attention to suggestions from riders. It’s great to hear you’re a happy GSD rider- such a fantastic bike!
Great job Chris and Tern!! Your video on the Tern Vektron was a deciding factor in me getting it! Love it! ❤ It stands out and gets attention-shame the Vektron doesn’t get as much media love! I want it in yellow and that lovely green-blue used for your other bikes! Not sure if Tern are going to further develop the Vektron? Folding it was the main reason for me to get it!! The Orox looks like an amazing bike and a great investment!!!
Thanks so much! Always love hearing that the videos are helpful. The Vektron is definitely a standout bike and deserves more attention! A yellow or green-blue Vektron would look fantastic. Folding bikes are such a game-changer for convenience. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Rohloff hub is sold around 1100 euros and the gates belt is less 100 euros, so i wonder why the price difference for the belt drive is 2200 euros more than the chain system? (Today in Germany these bikes are sold at 6800 and 9000 euros). Shimano chain system also costs something as well, it's not like that system is for free.
9:38 the White with blue accents looks SLICK, like way better than anything else Tern does - can't believe more people aren't asking for this in the US ?!?!?
Since you asked… Steve, I have an HSD gen 1 (love it!) and would love to upgrade to gen 2. It sounds ridiculous, but the color selection up here in Canada is causing me to hesitate. Everyone will have different opinions, but for what it’s worth the current HSD options stink. The only one I like is Dune but sadly it’s only for the S11, which isn’t available here. Looks like the dark sage S00 isn’t available here either ☹ The HSD color selection used to be so great with the early models (e.g. red, blue, tundra, dune)… what happened?!? I love the school bus yellow, beetle blue, and silver blue as well ... but none of those have been used for HSD bikes as far as I know? Fingers crossed for better HSD colors at some point in the near future.
Is the GSD still on the old Bosch system or have they gone to smart system by now? That was the one thing that steered me away from the GSD even though it's such a good and solid bike. It probably doesn't matter for a lot of people, but as a formerly competitive athlete I wanted to ride to power and having the power meter data (and the ride summaries in the app) is great. Also, the alarm/GPS tracking takes a lot of stress away when I park at destinations even though I've never had any issues.
18:41 Chris please help me here, what is the 'Long'? It's that what he said? Sorry my hearing aint that good, I'm so torn between RM & Tern. 4 year Super Delite Rohloff rider and due to my age and flexibility diminishing it's either a new Homage Pinion or the best Tern has to offer.
Hey there! No worries, happy to help! The "Tern Quick Haul Long" is indeed what you heard. It's a new bike from Tern designed to be longer and more capable of carrying heavier loads and more children compared to the standard Quick Haul. Despite being their lowest-priced option for heavy cargo, it still offers great functionality and versatility. Given your experience with the Super Delite Rohloff, you're used to high-quality performance, so I understand the dilemma. The new Riese & Müller Homage with the Pinion system offers excellent comfort and ease of use, which could be beneficial considering your concerns about flexibility. However, the Pinion system wont be available in the US until next year. Both are excellent choices, but if you're looking for Tern's higher specced bikes with the added comfort of things like suspension- you might want to check out the GSD or HSD, but it really depends on what specific needs and preferences you have. If you need any more details or have specific questions, feel free to ask or give us a shout!
Gen 2 of the GSD came out years ago, Propel did a video on it about 4 ish years ago. Honestly, they're probably coming up on a Gen 3 in the next few years
Great video, Chris! I am interested in the Orox S12 with the dual battery setup. I see it is not setup as a HS, so with these cargo bikes how many nm of Torque does the Bosch motor produce? Is this a cadence only setup?
It would be amazing to get weight adjustable suspension on this bike that you can adjust when you load it to its 460 pound capacity. I wish they had done a longer tail like the Surely Big Fat Dummy for transport of lengthier options. Other than that homefully it's amazing for offroading with gear loaded heavy. I search once a week for a true loaded to the gills weight review on different terain and range and no one is showing a review that's applicable to the use people would chose this bike for its steep price.
Bike Build: All terrain non-technical e-cargo touring bike. BIke colors for the future: See all the colors within the landscapes. Colors of Fall, Colors of Spring, Colors of Winter and Colors of Summer.
@@NearCry91 fair point haha. I just think I’d like the rigid stem on the quick haul more than the folding one on the GSD. But I haven’t ridden either so I could be wrong.
All of the eBikes we feature are tested to the highest standards. Their batteries are UL certified, ensuring safety and reliability, unlike the batteries you might see in the news. We have some other videos on this topic on our channel if you're interested in learning more!
Chris- Do you find the gearing of the NBD a bit odd? Given the target demographic of novice riders the gear range of 2.75 - 7.22 feels way too geared for high speed and not for comfortable cadences at low speeds and hills? NYC isn't that hilly so maybe it doesn't come up often
Yes it is to high as 5th gear is 90 inches. The thing is 1st gear is 34 inches which is low enough. I know two people who have the 5 speed (both on Bosch motor Electra bikes) and they never use the 5th gear. It is beyond what anyone I know ever uses. A bigger problem is the big jumps between the few gears that are left. You are nearly always going to be in a compromised gear with to few in-between choices.
Love the HSD Gen 2. Interested in the 250 watt powermore extension which apparently works with this (good for allowing extra range for those occasional times I might need it).
Glad to hear you love the HSD Gen 2! The 250-watt PowerMore extension is a great option for those times you need a bit of extra range. It’s always nice to have that added flexibility.
The NBD’s drivetrain is a dumbed down failure. I am familiar with the Shimano 5 speed and it is not a good drivetrain for anyone beyond an absolute beginner. The gear ratios are too wide for any even moderately serious riding. It’s an insult to smaller people to think this is actually what we need. A much better choice would have been something in the mid-range of Evola. The eight speed could have been greatly improved by going with a Cues derailleur system. By doing that Tern could have gone with the same motor as the belt driive 5 speed . From the looks of it there is also lots of problems getting to the chain for routine maintenance. That alone is.a no go. Being 5’2 on a good day I was very interested in the NBD, but given the lousy choices for drivetrains I'll take a pass.
100 miles unloaded in Eco is possible. Bosch Cargo is only 250w. John at the Radavist tested the Orox and said their estimate is pretty bang on. Load it up and run Turbo all day and you won't get 50 per battery.
I love my NBD. Ive had it about 3 months, honestly, it has completely changed my life.

Any changes or updates to the Vektron?
hello wich ones will fit in the back of a rav4; usb 4.0 pd charging would be nice too.
Can you fit a mortar tub or similar on the rear rack for carrying deer when you go hunting with the bike?
Was that the new Market Basket, compatible with the Vektron? It’s out of stock in U.K., nobody’s seen the new revised one yet.

What gauge are the spokes? Testing with a perfectly balanced wheels are totally different than one with a loose spoke.
What do you call those auxillary single pulley wheel attached on the chainstays?

Mega massive jump in price between XT and Rohloff versions. Is there anything else updated that is not that obvious?
Now that the HSD 2 is out. Will there be a GSD 2 upgrade?

@clomino3 I misspoke. I meant gen 3. Thank you for pointing that out.
I would LOVE a Vektron with continuously variable transmission and a belt drive. They said it was too tricky on a folding bike, but a girl can dream 😆

Can QHL fit a 6’5 rider?
On their site they say 6'1" for the QHL. The GSD does go up to 6'5".
Having owned a full suspension for the last year after decades of riding I have to say YOU COULD NOT GIVE ME A BIKE WITHOUT THE SUSPENSION.

$90000 price tag makes it too expensive for most individuals. A used Honda African Twin motorcycle can be had for less. Even Surlys are better priced.
