Turbo 420a Idle Fix and EGR Check Engine Light Fix

If you built a 420a you probably got rid of the egr valve and ran into some idle problems. This video is an update after 5 months of testing an adjustable idle control screw from Modern Performance (Model: 221294) and testing a resistor from Radio shack part # 271-0135
These fixed my cel problem and idle problem!
@chepiner I have not had any issues with the purge valve. I did build my motor by myself it took a pretty long time but now its boosted 9 psi with 310cc injectors and its amazing how quick it is I love it! My brother had a GTP V6 with a supercharger doing 10 psi and the little eclipse spanks it lol
@xxSkyxStrifexx Imagine your car is a human. An egr basically is the same thing as having one end of a hose up your butt and the other end in your mouth. Getting rid of the egr valve eliminates that hot exhaust going into your intake which completely defeats the purpose of having a cold air intake. If you are boosted its even more beneficial to keep your intake cool as possible to prevent pre-detonation. Lose the egr!
I removed the EGR valve assembly today and installed the block off plates on the intake and exhaust. Went ahead and installed the resistor as well. Hopefully this will get rid of the P0410 code for good.
Aint there a vacuum line also
I have had the egr plates on for 2 years and I can tell you from experience gas mileage does not change at all. I did have the check engine light com eon but after I put in that resistor it stayed off.

The plug only has to places for the resistor to plug into. So you just bend the wires of the resistor and push it in there then wrap the thing up in electrical tape so it wont fall out and your done.

Code came back. I ended up finding the port on the intake side was complety filled with carbon and crud. Cleaned everything back up, put it back the way it was and code is gone.
can i get a link for that idle screw part?? i can't find it online. also whats the wattage of that resistor?? will 10w do?? or i should go for smaller one like 5W?

I put my manual iac adjuster in and like it didn’t seem to effect my engine at all. It comes down to 750rpms and idles their even tho I have the screw far out. Then when I turn my lights and heater on the idle starts idling pretty low. I also have the stock ecu. Could you possibly give me an idea as to why it’s doing that ?
I ended up adding the potentiometer mod to the engine coolant temp sensor so i can adjust both the air and fuel.
Idle problems are separate from EGR. your EGR fix is accurate.. but if Idle is acting up on stock ECU.. you have an issue. The manual IAC is for those of us using stand0alone with no idle control. Just FYI.
What terminals do you connect the resistor to?
does this also work on 4g63 engine i mean with the resistor install?
It has stock cams. I didnt want to push my luck since its an interference engine to begin with. I think it might be my front o2 sensor thats bad I have replaced every other sensor under the hood.
I need to do this to my 98 Avenger. I've read that you can use a 5.5K Ohm resistor as well. Did the 100 ohm still kill the CEL after you drove it for a while?

It actually has made a pattern of coming on every 4 months or every 7,000 miles then I just turn it off with the scanner and it stays off for another 7k. I should try that 5.5k and see if that works permanently.
Not sure. Would not hurt to try since its less resistance
Hey bro, NIce work on the ride. Quick questions, Did the IAC start giving you problems after you installed the fuel managent system? I have the 420A with turbo, seems with the stock PCM the idle is smooth except during warmup. Then after I installed the Megasquirt system the idle seems to go up and down. Does that sound failiar, whats your take on it?

Also so lets me get this clear u replaced the idle air control sensor (iac) with that screw on from modern performance?? And wat do i need the radio shack part for ?is the radio shack part also needed to fix idleling problem? ,
how does the check engine light not come on if the IAC is not connected?????????

Hey millilicuty420a . I think i have same problem a mechanic rebuild my engine from new pistons to new seals ,pumps belts, head rebuilt and even got idel sensor new. But nothing seems to fix ideling issue. Everytime i drive . I notice it when i stop at a red light my idle goes up to 2000 rpm or a lil less or more. Do u think its the same problem ? My mechanic says he tried everything . Also where can i by the screw idler?
good ol ebay. Then I ported it myself since OBX does not know how to finish making parts.
where did you get that ported intake system?
